caribbeanfever Posted May 24, 2016 #401 Share Posted May 24, 2016 Thank you for all the posts so far. I am thoroughly enjoying living vicariously thru you until we cruise in March 2017. We have booked a Superior Oceanview Balcony cabin midship, like you, but on Deck 8-it is a D2. Do you know what cabins have the bed configuration with the bed by the balcony? Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted May 24, 2016 #402 Share Posted May 24, 2016 Thank you for the great thread. Is it possible for you to post some pics of the solarium? If there is no pool it is hard for me to visualize. and on another thread someone said RCL said there would be a pool there. Is there room? English Rose Posted May 24, 2016 #404 Share Posted May 24, 2016 Somebody posted on these boards earlier that they contacted RCCL and were informed that a pool would be put in the Solarium by the time they sail in September. Hard to believe how on earth they could do this.
MANDMTRAVEL Posted May 24, 2016 #405 Share Posted May 24, 2016 There is a Sports Pool opposite the kiddie pool. I believe the kiddie pool was replaced by the kids new water play area. That is a total of 3 pools. Wondering where is # 4?

Grandma Petania Posted May 24, 2016 #407 Share Posted May 24, 2016 Not sure what I'm going to spend my OBC on haha Unless they have started to enforce the "no cash for OBC" restriction, you should be able to cash it in at the casino if you want, with a 5% surcharge. Last year some people reported that they "bought" funds to play the slots. I don't gamble so not sure of the details, but they would evidently insert some kind of notice into a slot machine. Then, without even playing it, they could quit the machine and receive some sort of receipt of their unspent funds - which they could redeem for cash from the cashier - or, on some ships, insert into a machine near the exit to get the cash. (Sounded similar to an ATM.) On the Oasis this past February, I just handed my sea pass card to the cashier, asked for $200 in tens and twenties, and signed for it. My account was charged $210, and my OBC disappeared. (OBC will always be used to pay for purchases before your credit card will be charged.). As it turned out, part of my OBC "cash" did stay onboard as extra tips for waiters and room steward. I understand that RCI would rather I part with my credit while actually on board, (hence the name), but I don't gamble, drink, eat in the up-charge restaurants, or buy expensive jewelry/high-end accessories, etc. Actual cash to take home is much more valuable to me. If you prefer the fun of spending your "free money" on board, by all means, enjoy! :)
cruzin Phillis Posted May 24, 2016 #408 Share Posted May 24, 2016 The debarcle continues.... As breakfast was bad we went for an early lunch at park cafe. My OH had the kummelweck sandwich which is freshly carved roast beef. I ordered a beef and pickle panini, although it came cold and was ham and chicken. Although the filling was different to what I ordered I can live with this but a cold panini is not good. I took it back and she microwaved this, I asked her not to and to toast for longer and after it was cooked longer it was better. We then went to vintages to get a couple of bottles of water to take to the room, although they have now run out of bottles water and only cups of water are available. We have also just checked out statement and have found that we were charged for the coffees in vitality cafe, so a 20 minute wait for guest services who have advised they will investigate I was not going to reply but I have to!! To run out of things that most people will want on a cruise like water and OJ is totally uncalled for. Whoever was in charge of executing food orders should be fired. Grandma Petania Posted May 24, 2016 #411 Share Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) I understand how the beds comes apart. My real concern is how they can be separated in that confined space. Traveling with my son and would sure hope there is some kind of separation .In my experience the space between the beds is about 3 feet, with the little tables between them, near the head of the beds. I can't imagine how they could rearrange the room so the beds aren't side by side as I described. On our first family cruise, my teenage grandson freaked out when he saw the big bed in the room he and I were going to share. It wasn't easy for him to share the room, let alone have the beds so close, but we managed. I must admit that it is much more comfortable to share with my daughter (his aunt). We don't really mind the closeness, as long as we each have our own separate bedding, etc. I will be interested to know how it works out for you and your son. If there is no other option for the placement of the twin beds, perhaps having your pillows and heads at opposite ends would help? BourkeBlogs Posted May 24, 2016 Author #413 Share Posted May 24, 2016 This afternoon I went on the zip line and on the abyss slide. The zip line was great, the queue was about 20 minutes so not too bad at all. https://vimeo.com/167934660 I also asked about using a GoPro on the zip line and they advised you are not permitted to do so. You can however use a GoPro on the abyss slide of secured by a chest or head strap. Unfortunately, I've not got one with me so couldn't film the slide. There was no real queue for the slide and it only took a couple of minutes. You are given a mat you sit on with your feet in a pocket at the end. You then lie as flat as possible holding onto the strap on the mat. The further you lie back the faster you go. The slide was great, so much so I went back up and had another go, but on the other side. If you are claustrophobic though, probably not a good idea. It is dark inside and a relatively small tube. You do get some real speed up on this and it takes less than 15 seconds from deck 16 down to deck 6. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BourkeBlogs Posted May 24, 2016 Author #414 Share Posted May 24, 2016 Tonight we went to Wonderland and both the food and service was fantastic. The entrance is on deck 12, although it's 2 floors with majority of seating downstairs. There is a bar in there which I believe you can also use if not dining there. On arrival you are given a menu which you have to paint with water for the menu to appear. It's also worth getting the cocktail menu which lights up The waiter then asked if we would be happy for him to recommend items rather than choosing which we were, although we did request the beef dish which we had previously had in Wonderland on the Anthem and was amazing. We ordered a glass of wine each although were advised that it was not available. We've had the issue of lack of wines in a few bars on board so I don't think their bar is fully stocked yet. We both decided to have prosseco, it was served from a screw top bottle and tasted vile. It was like sweet apple juice and not the dryness you would expect from prosseco. I can only upload 5 pics per post so will continue on the next post Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BourkeBlogs Posted May 24, 2016 Author #415 Share Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) A number of starters were served to us with our favourite bee the prawns with a scotch bonnet chilli dip, we even asked for another of these. The portions are small but you do get a lot of them, here is a selection. Some of the starters were not necessarily to our taste but if you don't try you don't know. Quench Posted May 24, 2016 #419 Share Posted May 24, 2016 Just a quick update, we are just queuing for the zip line and have noticed how bad the finish is in a lot of places. It doesn't look new at all. All these pics were taken in a 10 feet radius while in the queue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk This is really horrible!! How can they let people on a ship in this condition??

BourkeBlogs Posted May 24, 2016 Author #425 Share Posted May 24, 2016 This is really horrible!! How can they let people on a ship in this condition?? That's not really that bad compared to some places, they were just while in the queue. There is glass missing from a section of the railings on the sports deck, items held up with cable ties, items taped up etc. One of the flow riders doesn't seem to be working either as they have just been using the same one for the last few days. Here is a pic I forgot to upload from the FlowRider, where you can see the quality of the finish. It's not that bad overall and the restaurants, bars etc seem finished its just disappointing as we had expected it to look immaculate with it being new. There is no way everything will be done by Sunday, for its sailing to Barcelona, there are just too many things to do, despite the number of workmen onboard. One other thing to mention is the big screens at each side of the theatre stage don't work either. On a more positive note the hot tubs at both sides of the ship are now full and working. The water slides are still not in use and there is still a lot of working going on in the aqua theatre. It is definitely getting better though, the service has been better today and we've not had any issues apart from the ongoing internet speed problems we have been trying to resolve for the last couple of days and there has been problems with our dining package not being correct, missing bookings etc and incorrect charges on our account which we keep having to deal with. We are enjoying our time, but it would have been nice if the boat was finished and not a building site still.
