Lovetotraveltami Posted July 12, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Hi: Just wondering if you know which cruise companies offer bicycling as a land option? Last year, we were on the Romantic Rhine with Avalon. We had the option to bike near Amsterdam. It was a blast. If we do another cruise, I would like this option. I did see that Avalon is offering a more active tour on the Danube for 2017. Thanks
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted July 12, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 12, 2016 AMA was one of the first to put bikes on their ships. They have bicycle tours as an option some days, and the bikes are available to use freely at other times.
5waldos Posted July 12, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Crystal has bike tours in every or nearly every port on the C. Mozart-would guess they will offer the same when their new ships launch.
Canal archive Posted July 12, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2016 All Scenic boats have bikes on board some electrically assisted, you can use them whenever you want there are also organised bike tours. Hope that helps CA🇬🇧
CPT Trips Posted July 12, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2016 My understanding is that Vantage has bicycles on board. With that in mind, does anyone ( redoes of the raise line) have any experiences to share about interesting rides in a port along the Rhone? GCT sometimes offers a ride in Kinderdyke. They realize that many pax have been there multiple times.
capriccio Posted July 12, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2016 AMA was one of the first to put bikes on their ships. They have bicycle tours as an option some days, and the bikes are available to use freely at other times. Uniworld is the same. My DB, SIL and DH have gone on their 'official' bike tours in Austria, Germany and France and enjoyed them all. On those tours even better equipment is brought in for the riders. DB and SIL frequently use the ship's bikes for DIY tours - many of the rivers have extensive bike paths along the banks - and have had no problem with the quality of the bikes kept on board. capriccio Posted July 12, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 12, 2016 With that in mind, does anyone ( redoes of the raise line) have any experiences to share about interesting rides in a port along the Rhone? In late May Uniworld offered a guided bike excursion in Lyon along the Rhone that my DH and DB thoroughly enjoyed. It went to the park at the confluence of the Saone and Rhone which they described as so beautiful that it should be included on bus tours.

thdave Posted July 12, 2016 #9 Share Posted July 12, 2016 For ships without bicycles, does anyone know if the typical stops between Amsterdam and Budapest have convenient bicycle rental locations to the ship docking? My wife and I love exploring cities on bikes and would like to do it once or twice on this trip. Thx. Dave
Canal archive Posted July 12, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Forgot to say on our just returned from Scenic Bordeaux cruise on one bike tour more cruisers wanted to do it so they hired more bikes. All are provided with locks and helmets. Lots of cruisers used the bikes when we were in port. CA 🇬🇧

Kenato Posted July 13, 2016 #15 Share Posted July 13, 2016 We were on the Avalon Panorama on the Rhine in May/June and it had bike excursions plus it had a number of bikes on board that I believe you could use in any port. Good looking, high end bikes as well.
KathyK13 Posted July 13, 2016 #16 Share Posted July 13, 2016 Avalon is expanding excursion options on some Danube cruises that do include bikes available at all ports. I know AMA has had bikes available in the past and assume they still do.

Scenic had bikes as well and they were electric assist. They also offered them for DIY.
Canal archive Posted July 13, 2016 #19 Share Posted July 13, 2016 Hi Caviargirl, I will write as soon as I can we had a great trip. It's been a bit manic since we got home and on Friday we leave on our narrowboat for a couple of weeks to Newbury Water Festival and back so very very patchy Internet, so cruise critic will be safe from me for a bit.
