Live from the Oasis--Woman Threatens to Kill Security Guards and Family in MDR

I wasn't being serious when I said I would film her. If a situation like that were to come up where a drunk person in the dining room was throwing silverware at other people, I would tackle that person to the ground and hold them there until security arrived.

I could care less about her future at that moment. I would only care about the innocent people around her that were in danger of being severely injured.

This.

On the subject of air marshals: in this case their identity was obvious by their actions but I have always looked (without success) to see if I could identify any in the airport or on the plane. Always hoped they would be flying with me! Any tricks to IDing them?

I used to work for an airline. If I wasn't informed then I most likely wouldn't have always known. Sometimes I could tell before hand, but it was rare. The dead giveaway was if they had someone cuffed to them. They came on the plane before anyone else and were the last ones off. They wore normal clothing and not a prison jumpsuit. Also, there was something always covering the cuffs while they sat there. A jacket or something so passengers couldn't see them.

Main Seating: Obviously inebriated woman sitting in MDR at early seating began throwing silverware and yelling at family seated at adjacent table. F-bombs being screamed and the woman yells at the waitstaff that she's an executive with Intel and has two suites on the ship. Waitstaff attempts to contain her at which time she begins screaming that she will kill them and her family members if they don't leave her alone. Waitstaff begins scurrying to collect knives and silverware from all the tables in the area. Security takes a very long time to arrive and seems more concerned with trying to placate the screaming woman than they are with removing her from the dining room. Woman is led away screaming and security is overheard saying she will be turned over to the Sherriff's Deputies upon arrival in FLL in the morning. Guessing she's spending the night in the pokey.

Entire incident caused me to question the efficiency of security on the Oasis.

I get that way the night before I have to disembark :D

Please do not ask for how you can ID air marshalls. Why would anyone think that's a good idea? Sigh. I also know an air marshall and you would never be able to pick him out based on appearance. Looks just like any other traveler. I also know a few Secret Service agents (family and where we live) and they fly with their weapon as long as the pilot agrees to it, which they usually do.

Some airports have air marshalls on every flight, other's do not.

The placement of Air Marshals is dependent on a risk assessment that is conducted for the flight. That being said, some of them are random. Every flight leaving Canada to DCA has one aboard.

To the earlier poster who said that they spotted one by their business suit and the fact they handed the flight crew a letter, this may have been the case if it happened 10 years ago or so. There was a lawsuit that now allows Air marshalls to board during general boarding, pick whatever attire they want etc.

What you may have seen was an off-duty law enforcement officer who was carrying their service weapon.

You are incorrect - I was there ! This may be true In a "small plane" such as 767 or even 747 [emoji3] but this was an a380............

 Try telling that to my husband. 75's and 76's aren't the large Airbuses, but they aren't small either.

Highly doubt it was an air Marshall transporting a prisoner. A US Marshall perhaps but not an Air Marshal. Their duties are limited to taking out someone who is trying to overtake the aircraft. Not transporting prisoners. Not subduing rowdy drunken passengers.

Neutralising threats to the aircraft. That's it.

In Canada, the Officers who escort prisoners are typically officers from the service that want the bad guy. Example : Toronto Police have a warrant for someone who gets scooped up after they run a red light in Vancouver .. Toronto sends two officers out, they see a judge and get the warrant endorsed and they fly home with the bad guy sitting between the 2 of them.

Our set up is likely less complicated because we have ONE criminal code that covers the entire country... Each province doesn't have a penal code that varies from province to province like the States does

I know. I was joking :) They are not small but the A380 is huge and impressive with two complete decks. Of course it is only available on some routes such as Sydney or Melbourne (Australia) to Los Angeles or Dallas, Sydney or Melbourne to London via Dubai and with some of the other airlines that travel from Australia or Asia to Europe - basically the longest haul routes of the world.

It isn't even the largest plane - that is apparently a Russian plane which recently landed in Perth Australia for the first time and attracted a huge crowd to marvel at its size. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-05-15/antonov-an-225-mriya:world's-largest-plane-touches-down-in-perth/7415408

(Because we have to travel so far, some of us in Australia are plane geeks!)

Thanks for the link to the Antonov. That's a really cool looking plane and check out those tires. Talking about a wide body. :D We are on Qantas next year from LAX to SYD, but I'm not sure if we will be on an A380. Will have to ask Mike. Mike is also a plane geek. :) He flies for American Airlines either in the 75's or the 76's, but mostly the 76's going to South America.

I know an air marshal. You wouldn't pick him out of a crowd, which is the point.

On the other hand, by your description, it's possible you could think some of the people I work with, engineers and construction managers primarily (my hubby included), are air marshals.

I married an engineer as well. Trust me when I say, this guy wasn't dressed like that. Like said, there was something that wasn't adding up. *shrugs* not a big deal. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't. Either way, it's been years ago and doesn't matter......

Thank you.

This is what I do for a living. I'm well trained in verbal judo, deescalation tactics, negotiating, and lastly, use of force.

With all of my training and experience even I am very hesitant to Armchair Quarterback. No two situations are the same and no situation is perceived the same by two different Officers.

I liked your response as well! What is verbal judo? So like a good tongue lashing! Lol! That may be 1 sport I could be good at! Lol
