I don't blame all of that live in the northeast for wanting a ship in Bayonne. But, it does not work for a lot of us. Don't want to fly north, to cruise south, to cruise back north, to fly south. :D

But it's our turn!! You have 100's of choices of sailings from southern ports!!!

Would love to see it but one of the problems is that when they put the Reflection in Bayonne, it did not do well. Maybe with the new terminal it might help but there is also major competition year round with Breakaway.

Hi Don! I don't know about soft Silhouette sale during her one winter in NJ. We had friends who sailed her in February 2012 who we wanted to sail with but the prices were too high, & never csme down. We watched the Excing deals all winter & never saw Silhouette listed from NJ. I also don't think Breakaway woyld be much competition in winter because water slides are usless for the beginning & end of the sailing, & they are a big lure for families.

I sure would love to see X keep a ship in Bayonne year round.

Royal is moving Rhapsody to NJ next year, so they will have 2 ships.

Would love to have X ship here as well though. Doesn't even have to always sail to Caribbean. Iceland / Greenland itinerary would be very interesting. Reykavik is actually 100 miles closer to NY than St Maarten.

No , the Rhapsody is doing Europe in 2017, book on the TA in Nov

I think Breakaway is competition only because its new, I don't know how many people I've met the last two years in Bermuda who wished they were on the Summit and not the Breakaway.

I remember lots of deal and especially upgrades while it was in NJ, I was following it also but never had the chance the pull the trigger.

True. But we have no desire to sail on any of the RC ships.

Given the opportunity to sail on a X ship out of Bayonne (preferably S-class) we would definitely be sailing more often.

I agree, I prefer X over RC any day. My point was that RC as a company will rather have Anthem sailing full at high prices, than have another half empty X ship sailing from NJ. I guess X still remember the lesson with Silhouette back in 2011-2012 season, when they were "giving away" cabins. I think we paid about $2800/ cabin for AQ1 in December for 12 days cruise. Now X dictates this price per person....;)

Just got off a Breakaway 9 nighter. Had a great time because we were with family, but "Walmart" kept popping into my head! Funny, but one of the staff was joking they had a report from the Celebrity ship that someone had fallen asleep while playing shuffleboard. It's all in the eye of the beholder!

True, RCI and NCL are indeed livelier cruiselines. Fun ships. Down to earth crowd and great entertainment. But without sounding like a snob, the generalization of the majority of passengers could fit the Walmart image. You should see some those embarking from NYC or NJ!!

That being said, I prefer X.

I completely understand people who live within driving distance of Bayonne wanting more cruise options out of there. But as someone who has to fly out to the East Coast regardless, I would never sail out of Bayonne again (I did on Summit in 2012). Sailing out of NJ lacks all of the panache and excitement of sailing from Manhattan. It was very grim and disappointing. Will only do cruises out of Manhattan now. I'm sure X has run the numbers and would add more cruises out of NY if it was financially beneficial. The cruise lines send their ships where there's demand. I hope that NCL isn't chasing the competition away. Celebrity is so much more elegant.

I absolutely agree with you regarding the crowd & the entertainment. My allusion to Walmart was referencing the product NCL puts forth. Small pools, large crowds, mediocre service & food. I was not talking about the passengers; we mets lots & lots of great people, & most of them were from NY & NJ.

What about the Brooklyn Cruise port?

I know Princess uses it occaisionally for Canada/NE cruises and Cunard uses it but there's probably plenty of room there for an X ship.

And you'd still get to see the Statue of Liberty and downtown Manhattan when you were leaving without doing the detour like the Summit does sometimes.

Though I think if X were to bring another ship, they probably would stick to Bayonne, there is probably some deal RCI has with the Port Authority that governs which port they use, don't know if they could add another one.

You are correct on the product reference as well. Although we found the service on NCL to be exceptional and did the ultimate dining package which turned it into a great cruise, even though a different caliber than X.

I can say that about some of the passengers, because we are NJ folks in the summer. And yes, lots of very nice people, however maybe it varies from sailing to sailing, because we had some doozies on our sailing. It doesn't stop us though, we like the convenience of a short drive to the port.

Parking in Manhattan $45/night on top of port..$400 max and outside. In Bayonne &20/night, covered mostly. Yes, we did that bargain cruise on a Silhouette in December. But, if you remember, the EX always had bargains December also. This year on Anthem December 7 nighter is less too. Cruise lines have to take their hits. It's just that the Anthem being the only ship other than NCL is the problem. It's just a totally different kind of cruise...very regimented with reservations, lots of people, a mall feel.....just different. We much prefer Celebrity at times, much more "on a ship feel". Things have changed a bit since 2012, new terminal, parking garage and on most cruise they are making a loop around the Statue and Ellis Island. They then follow the Breakaway out of the port. Lots of transport options into NYC from NJ where you can stay for a pittance of the price of NYC

We did a couple NCL cruises and one of the biggest differences was the smoking policy. Walking into the casino was like being in a chimney.

Apologies. In April Royal made the Rhapsody out of NJ announcement. In June they switched to Vision. My big online ta still shows Rhapsody. In any event, it's a conventional alternative to Anthem.

Still would like an X ship though.

The Vision isn't going to be in New Jersey that long as she's moving to Galveston in Oct 2017.

The point is that for a time Royal will have three ships sailing from Bayonne. That will help them to gauge whether there is enough demand to permanently support a third ship.
