This is shocking to see! Madeira is so beautiful and it's such a pleasant place to visit. Fond memories of walking our legs off in Funchal.

A friend says the fires are in the hills and mostly under control now. Cinders being blown into town are causing some fire there. Hew relatives spent the night hosing down their property. EM

How tragic...people have died & the beautiful island of Madeira charred near Fuchal. :(

 

This is the 2nd port town we've visited in the past couple of years with Valparaiso Chile also having a major fire which resulted in 12 deaths in April 2014. :(

We want to add our sympathies to those living on the island of Madiera. We also were fortunate to spend a day here on the Regal Princess as we made here maiden transatlantic voyage from Venice to Port Everglades.

Madiera is truly on the most completely beautiful islands we have ever visited. The people were so warm and friendly and the cleanliness of the entire island was a welcome sight. We hope that they recover rapidly and the toboggans will soon be going down the hills.

So sad to see such a beautiful island and wonderful people

having to deal with this. In the past few years they have had

the terrific flood and now the fires. Our hearts go out to these

wonderful people.
