What to do before boarding?

LAX is NOT really near the port by any means I want to say a half hour drive or so. Its down past Long Beach if I remember correctly.

From what we saw, there wasn't a whole lot to do within walking distance to the ship and there isn't really much to do within walking distance to LAX. That whole area is very CAR heavy - just to rent a car at LAX you need to take a van to car rental area.

Even though the drive is only a half hour or so, if your taking a NCL transfer, it will stop at literally every terminal (unless your coming in at the last one of the loop) this will eat up time. The same would be very true to those shared van shuttle services unless you pay for a private trip.

The Jewel departs in San Pedro (Port of Los Angeles), not Long Beach, which is to the south/southeast.

While the drive maps at about 1/2 hour, any manner of problems can cause you delays.

Arrange your transportation and head to the port and drop your crap. If you really are that early, there is always the USS Iowa to visit which is docked right next to the Jewel.

If your transportation really puts you in San Pedro any time before 8 or 9 am, you could have them drop you at Crowne Plaza and have some breakfast or peruse the couple of other businesses nearby to find something to eat -- or a drink! I know one bar there that opens at 6 am... :)

Other than that, there isn't much going for San Pedro around the port in the time you will have.

Get to the boat as early as you reasonably can so you get on board early; remember San Pedro is quite a way from LAX. As someone said get a coffee at LAX and find your transport.

San Pedro itself is about a 20 minute walk from the port and is not the most salubrious place in the USA!!

There is a US Navy Battleship museum. Show them either your room key or your paperwork and you can board FREE!!!

USS Iowa just a short walk from the cruise terminal.
