mimijes Posted October 8, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2016 Do you tip the Michael's Club Concierge? We were told not to tip any of the ship's officers. Just got off the Summit and Maya was fantastic, but we didn't tip her. I feel bad now.

CHEZMARYLOU Posted October 8, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 8, 2016 (edited) We tipped Kim, the MC concierge on Summit last September because she did a lot for us. On Eclipse in March MC had a totally different vibe and the concierge had a different way about her. We did not tip on this cruise. BTW, the concierge we had on Eclipse is not the current concierge on this ship from what I can tell from other posts. Don't want to give anyone the wrong impression. Chicogirl Posted October 8, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2016 We tipped John on the Solstice. He is a wonderful concierge. Sent from my iPad using Forums
El Crucero Posted October 8, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 8, 2016 We always give cash tips for outstanding service, from bathroom attendants to management and service staff. Average service is recognized by the mandatory gratuities and nothing additional.
bitob Posted October 8, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 8, 2016 I don't tip someone merely for doing what they are paid to do and nothing more. I tip generously for extraordinary service. CruisersTimesThree Posted October 8, 2016 #9 Share Posted October 8, 2016 We tipped Maja on the Summit in August. We were in the PH and had a couple of minor problems which she took care of immediately. She was wonderful with any requests or questions we had and she also made it a point to visit Luminae and talk to the guests at various times during the dining hours to chat and see if we needed anything. In the end I am glad we gave her a generous tip as we had a huge problem upon disembarkation when someone took our luggage and at first refused to bring it back. In the end Maja with several phone calls and a very authoritative attitude got them to come back to the pier to return it. She had to leave us to escort other guests but called my home and emailed me later in the day to be sure we got it returned. Btw, I don't believe that the Michael's Club concierges are ship's officers.
need2bespoiled Posted October 8, 2016 #10 Share Posted October 8, 2016 SNIP Btw, I don't believe that the Michael's Club concierges are ship's officers. The positions is an Officier's position, you may occasionally, all be it rarely, see them in uniform. It's possible they have someone fill in who isn't an Officier, but that is rare and I doubt it happens much, if ever. We tip when we feel someone went above and beyond their job, but this is a tough thing for this position as the expectations and what is above and beyond is so subjective. Fixing issues is their job but I'd agree the follow-up on luggage sounded above and beyond. We've tipped in cash, we've given personal gifts that we thought would mean something based on getting to know them and we've taken one out to a meal on land (when the ship was near our home) with a mini excursion. It think tipping above the "required" tips is personal and you should go with your instincts. Happy sailing, Jenna
Orator Posted October 8, 2016 #11 Share Posted October 8, 2016 We tipped Maja on the Summit Btw, I don't believe that the Michael's Club concierges are ship's officers. They are two stripe officers. They are the supervisor for the Butlers and they report to the Asst. Guest Relations Manager.
CruisersTimesThree Posted October 8, 2016 #12 Share Posted October 8, 2016 They are two stripe officers. They are the supervisor for the Butlers and they report to the Asst. Guest Relations Manager. Well thanks for clarifying that. I didn't think so as I don't believe I had ever seen Maja dressed in any type of uniform during our cruise. During the officers meet and greet in Michaels Club one evening, she was dressed in a lovely cocktail dress.

Thanks for the clarification "Orator" that the Michael's Club Concierge is in fact an officer. I have read many of your posts with interest and realize you are a very frequent cruiser. Can you give any insight into the question of "tips" for the Michael's Club concierge? Are you nay or yeah or indifferent? Thanks, this may help so of us who do not cruise that often. :-)

I often invite the MCC to join us for dinner. Since I know a few of them very well and consider them friends I often bring a gift that I know they will appreciate. I sometimes give them cash, especially around holiday time. We all have different relationships with people and should do what our inner voice tells us to do. We will be on a cruise on Christmas and will bring a stack of cards for a number of special friends. Some will have their children with them and when in port we try to find a small gift for the children. Yes, we've presented small gifts to the Captain and his children , but as I said we have a long time special relationship with them.
