Oasis: what to do as soon as on board?

Hi, my family of 6 will be sailing the Oasis December 23. We have only cruised once before (Norwegian Gem). We are all adults and teens.

I need advice on what to do when we get on board while we wait for our rooms to become available. A good place to eat would be a great info. Or just info on what YOU do as soon as you board.

I hate being in the dark and need a plan. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I always sign on to Royal's site to ship I am sailing and go to DECK plans and print any and all decks I may like to visit. I can still get lost on a ship I sailed 4 different times and should know. Senior moments.

I check locations of restaurants, entertainment, pool area, spa, bars and whatever else might interest me. I make it a point to never visit the buffet unless it is an emergency, like I need ice cream.

When we board next Sunday, we will hope to snag a sandwich at Park Cafe and then find location to book restaurant times for Specialty restaurants I have paid for. DH wants to go to spa to inquire about a spa pass for the cruise. We most likely will meet in cabin as soon as cabins are available to occupy.

Lots to see and do, print your deck plans and explore as someone suggested.

The Boardwalk Dog House - best hot dogs out there! We found it by accident on our first Oasis cruise while waiting for the rest of our party to board. Kind of a food truck feel and really tasty. Coney Island, German, Big Apple, Sicilian and diy varieties. Only potato salad as a side if I remember correctly, but perfect to tide one over until dinner. The boardwalk will be a neat place to explore before everyone else discovers it!

Definitely explore...start with central park, and a roast beef sandwich at park café. Take teens past teen club so they know where to go. Its by the sports area. Most important relax and know you are about to have the time of your life. Enjoy!

Don't mean to get off topic here but your response caught my eye as we too board next Sunday. We have selected and paid for two Specialty dinners. Do we still need to go to the restaurants on embarkation day? I thought I had preselected the times we wanted?

I bought the 3 night package for $85 pp. They select which restaurant we eat at on night 2 and I selected the time. When we board I have to select the time for the other 2 nights. Our package includes Chef's Table, 150 Central Park and Chops Grille. I need to book the day and time when we board. I decided to book beginning night 2 in the event they offer a BOGO the first night.

We have a Boardwalk balcony with perks thus I also have to book Johnny Rockets from what I have read on CC.

Not a fan of MDR as it is generally crowded and noisy. I can deal with food choices but not the noise. Been spoiled by sailing Celebrity in AQUA class which has its own small dining room.

Thanks all for the replies and advice! I think the Park Cafe sounds great. I need to print out deck plans and go from there. :)

You can't go wrong with the deck plans. DH doesn't need them but I do. They have plans by elevators but I need mine in hand. Make certain you print from Deck Plans/printable version. I am so bad I even color code mine so a quick glance gets me where I want to go.

My advice, since this appears to be your first time on this class of ship, turn the teenagers loose until muster and explore.

We are a large extended family boarding Oasis on Dec. 23 also. This is my second time on Oasis and the whole family has cruised on Allure too. We usually go to the windjammer as a family and grab tables together to catch up and eat. Not always the best food but we can usually get a few tables or the big round one for our group of 15. Then explore the ship.

It is unbelievable to see the boardwalk, atrium, pool areas, etc. Try not to carry on a bunch of stuff. You get too loaded down and the elevators are very busy at boarding. There is lots to explore and enjoy. Before you know it your room is ready!

-You board at the Royal Promenade. Walk around the promenade and check out everything there.

-Visit the fitness center and spa. Make any appointments/check on any appointments you'd already booked.

-Go to your table in the Main Dining Room and make sure the arrangement is how you expected (ie whether your table is for 6 or whether they put you with other people).

-Visit Izumi (Deck 4) and check/make reservations. Walk around Deck 4 and explore the different enterainment venues/casino

-Walk up to 6 and visit the Boardwalk. Check out all the shops, carousel, aquatheater, etc. Check on Sabor reservation/make reservation.

-Walk up to 8 and visit Central Park. Check on your reservations/make reservations at Chops, 150 Central Park, Giovannis

-Elevator/walk up to Deck 14 and check out the Adventure Ocean area.

-Walk to 15 and walk around the pool deck and check out everything there

That list should get you to at least 1pm when rooms are ready :). As for me, I get myself a nice frozen drink and a lounge chair...
