Zeikah Posted December 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 28, 2016 Hi all, We are arriving into LAX at 0615 from Aus. Boarding the Ruby that same day. My question is, once we drop our bags off (does anyone know what time that would be?) is there anything close by to fill in a hour or 2/keep us awake after 15hr flight. Thanks in advance. IECalCruiser Posted December 28, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 28, 2016 The USS Iowa battleship shares the same parking lot with the cruise port and that would be one option. Sent from my iPad using Forums

Pam in CA Posted December 28, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 28, 2016 I don't think you'll be able to drop your bags off earlier than 10am. Passengers will still be disembarking at that time. You can visit the USS Iowa which is right nearby but if it were me, I'd take a taxi or if the trolley is running to the Ports o' Call which is about a mile away along the waterfront. There are shops, restaurants and things to do there. A couple of years ago, I took a 2-hour "tall ship cruise" from there. You can shop, have lunch and then when you get back to the ship, be able to board. http://www.sanpedro.com/sp_point/portcall.htm

Astro Flyer Posted December 28, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 28, 2016 (edited) The Victory Lane is docked at the south end of Cabrillo Avenue. It's not located at the south end of Cabrillo Avenue but near the south end of Miner Street (3600 Miner St; Berth 49). Google Maps shows Cabrillo Ave west of Gaffey inland from the harbor & not where the ship is located. http://www.lanevictory.org/directions.php Edited December 28, 2016 by Astro Flyer
Kamloops50 Posted December 28, 2016 #10 Share Posted December 28, 2016 I was at the Doubletree by Hilton in San Pedro . It looked like it was at the edge of the Marina.
truckmaker Posted December 28, 2016 #11 Share Posted December 28, 2016 The Getty is not too far away. If I remember correctly there was a tour offered at the hotel.
waltd Posted December 28, 2016 #12 Share Posted December 28, 2016 Other then a few things that have already been posted there is not a lot to do in San Pedro. I'm sure you will be tired after flying in. Not sure if you want to then get to the port and then find a taxi to take you some where for a few hours. The only other tourist attraction close by would be the Queen Mary docked in Long Beach. Long Beach is about a 15 minute drive from San Pedro by taxi. Interesting to walk around the old ship and is good for a few hours.

Wehwalt Posted December 29, 2016 #18 Share Posted December 29, 2016 There is a very large park about a half mile from the cruise port with excellent walking trails. I've spent time there on several turnaround days.
DrivesLikeMario Posted December 29, 2016 #19 Share Posted December 29, 2016 The Getty is far away from San Pedro and not an option for a few hours pre cruise. Sent from my iPad using Forums Totally agree with that. There is no way I'd back-track to the Getty Museum. You just never know what's going to happen on LA freeways and you could get stuck in some nasty traffic. Always best to get to the port, then venture out from there close to the port like to see the USS Iowa or Ports O'Call.
Wehwalt Posted December 29, 2016 #20 Share Posted December 29, 2016 (edited) The attractions of Long Beach, such as the Queen Mary, are close. I agree, the Getty Museum is far for a turnaround day, given the uncertainties of LA traffic. Edited December 29, 2016 by Wehwalt
