Live from the Royal Princess, Jan 19th-28th

Today we were arriving in Grenada at 1pm. It was a typical morning...coffe, donut, poolside, breakfast, poolside. The sun was strong today. After we arrived, I eventually went out on my own walking tour of the area. Zig zagging through the narrow streets, I was hot and soaked! For spices, the ship recommends a place called Dot's Plaza. It is a few winding blocks from the pier. I eventually came across it, and the lineup was out the door. With a name like plaza, you would expect something bigger than the whole in the wall that it is. I got in line for a few minutes, and after not moving at all, decided it was not worth 30-40 minutes to look at some spices that were probably the same as every other store. After my tour, I needed a dip in the pool...of course I grabbed Ro in with me. CG tonight...hopefully we stay in schedule.

I am told that the band Rhapsody had their final week last week.....that is too bad since we had them last year on the Regal, and they are quite good. I don't know how long the band's contracts are for, but this is Atomic's first sailing.

The first pics are the Breton, which is a breakfast specialty chocolate item. Just as good as the chocolate donuts, I can eat them everyday!

Thanks again for posting your live from and including menus and patters. I have been following closely as we are sailing on Feb. 18th for 20 nights.

I know you were not feeling at all great, at least it didn't sound like it, but you missed posting the patters and maybe the menu for the 21st. At least I didn't see it. Any chance you might have it still to post? Either way, thank you.

Maybe I missed it but how is the band Atomic?

I'm curious as well. I think we had them last year and they were at worst "OK" IMO. I wonder who the female singer is since she was expecting last year at this time. I guess we'll see first hand if she's still performing in a few weeks.

OP..... lovin' the thread. Thanks for the time and effort.:)

BTW, Might you know who the Deputy Cruise director is? At times I find that role can enhance many an on board event if they so choose. We had Rose, but not sure if she is bumping up to CD on another ship or what is going on with that roll these days. She did a great job getting many a person involved..and did it tastefully.

TIA

I'm not impressed with Atomic, they were on the Regal in Nov. Princess is trying to hire party bands if possible from the islands were the ship travels.

We like Kelly Rose and are glad the current Deputy CD is changing out. We hope Gary from South Africa takes over as Deputy CD for our 29 Jan cruise, he is excellent.

As mentioned, both the CD & DCD are both changing as of the next sailing.

I have posted all of the MDR menus except for the 1st night.

Atomic...if I am being completely honest: they have a limited repertoire, the male vocalist has a low voice and doesn't always speak into the mic, they talk too much in between songs, their accents are too apparent when they sing.

Interesting to see some prices rises on the patter there.

AIBP now seems to be $52 plus 15%. Also beer prices and cocktail of the day prices seen to have gone up by at least 25 cents,

It is supposed to now be $49.95 + 15% = $57.45/day

Are you seeing it higher?

On the day one patter shown here it is $52 plus gratuity. Same on another recent regal live thread.

There was a post on here last week or a couple of weeks ago about the increase.

I think the posts on here 2 weeks ago were about the pric increasing up to 49.95 plus the gratuity from $49. This is the online price in cruise personaliser currently.

Looking at patters above it seems the onboard price is $52 plus gratuity.

There is also a bar menu posted in this thread. Grolsch and guinness seem to have increased from $5.95 to $6.75.

Thank you, I will be boarding the Royal on the 18th of next month for a B2B and am enjoying this immensely. Especially the patters although it sounds like the CD will have changed by then. The captain will be changing as well if my long ago email is still correct. We will be captained by Nick Nash. Another excellent choice for Captain.

I didn't see Crash Nash on a list of captains, and asked where he is. Never got an answer. Glad to know he is alive and well. One of my favorites.

Nick Nash is our favorite captain. He is a loose cannon because you never know what he will say or do. We are glade he will be on our 28 Feb cruise and are hoping the TA in April but my guess is that he will change out right before.

Didn't you get the Princess email today? He is the captain for the TA in April.

Yes I did but I didn't read the whole thing and thought it was for the 28 Feb cruise.

I went back and tried to find the email for the 28 Feb cruise but I couldn't find it.

Thank you for pointing that out.

PS ... As far as Rome goes I think we will get a car service and go directly to the Lancelot and drop off out luggage and start walking the city. I know you were trying to get a sight seeing tour together.

Caveat here - a pre cruise email from Captain Nick Nash said he would be the captain. It was dated November something so it is relatively recent. I have heard Bob Oliver is currently Captaining and I'm not sure when the change over will be. I like both of them.

Our email is for the 2/18 cruise, we booked it as a 20 day so covers 2/28. It is dated 11/26. Hope that helps you search.

I am probably going to cancel that tour and take the ship excursion to Rome and the Vatican with drop off at train station. We will take cab from there. The next day we will walk ancient Rome. That original tour I had filled but the others cancelled their cruise.

Now back to this thread!

We were on the Royal in April/May 2015 on a TA. Bob Oliver was captain for the TA and then the British Isles we had Nick Nash. Nick Nash was much more personable than Bob Oliver. At least this was the case with my limited observation.

We went to the CG last night. Bread, soup, salad, filet, lobster, mushrooms, potatoes, fries, dessert, and a bottle of wine....we were both so stuffed afterwards, that we didn't do anything after that. We didn't care to see the magician anyways.

Today we were in Dominica. It was hot & sunny. Ships of this size cannot dock "downtown", so we were at a different location which is not that far away. There is a shuttle to the downtown for $2pp. Right outside of our ship was a warehouse where souvenirs are sold. We did not get off. Today was a full pool day for us. I was in the pool doing laps with the sunrise, and remained there through the late afternoon. It was Italian night tonight, so I made sure to eat light. As I say every year, as a fat kid growing up in the 80s, an Italian buffet was the dream! As an adult trying to live healthy, I go all in on this night...as the pictures will show...I sampled almost everything🤢

After eating we had a seat in the atrium and watched the Princess fashion show. We had not planned on seeing the production show tonight, but was in the vicinity so decided to have a look. Thirty minutes before showtime, and all seats where taken. I observed a little in the casino...full house every night on this sailing, before having a night cap on the balcony.

St Thomas tomorrow...weather is looking good.

You were smart to stay on the ship in Dominica. We decided to take the shuttle into Roseau and after wandering around for a while decided we would walk back to the ship. That was fine but the mistake was going in the warehouse market. It was so stiffling hot that I thought I would pass out. Laid low last night and didn't get off the ship today in St Thomas. I am rallying now but was unhappy to not have an appetite for Italian night. Otherwise we are having a lovely cruise.
