goin'toalaska Posted February 12, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2017 Is the "maple syrup" onboard real pure maple syrup, or is it the maple flavored corn syrup that is more typically served in American restaurants? We're on the Radiance of the Seas, Alaska, if that makes a difference (but I would guess it's probably the same across the whole line). Thanks. BND Posted February 12, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 12, 2017 It's basically colored sugar with some maple flavoring, which is what most syrup is, unless you spend the money for the real thing.
grand isle joe Posted February 12, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 12, 2017 We take our own VERMONT maple syrup with us and also small containers to give to the crew. We would be stopped at the border if we ever used that corn syrup.:D

goin'toalaska Posted February 12, 2017 Author #13 Share Posted February 12, 2017 Thanks! I'll bring my own -- it won't be the first time I've traveled with syrup in tow. I thought I remembered that HAL had real maple syrup on request on the MDR (I might be mis-remembering that) so I thought it was worth asking. I do think it's funny that maple syrup is the one thing that is not "real" unless it specifically says it is ... The maple lobby needs to get on that! dpostman Posted February 12, 2017 #15 Share Posted February 12, 2017 This is our sugar shack that is not quite finished yet. We are 3 Families that make Maple Syrup in there. So... of course... ours is the best[emoji6] Looking to tap about 200 trees this year. Had about 140 tapped last year. DisneyDatknee Posted February 12, 2017 #16 Share Posted February 12, 2017 Fake Maple Syrup is formally known as "Breakfast Syrup". It's definitely not apart of my breakfast Sent from my iPhone using Forums
GrayMaineCruiser Posted February 12, 2017 #17 Share Posted February 12, 2017 In fact I noted on our recent cruise that is exactly how they label it in WJ, "breakfast syrup" I'd say it's about on par with store brand fake syrup. Definitely not up to Log Cabin standards. :) Sent from my iPhone using Forums
jagsfan Posted February 12, 2017 #18 Share Posted February 12, 2017 With all the changes and cutbacks on all the cruise lines, real maple syrup would have caused a riot! Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
ColoradoGurl Posted February 12, 2017 #19 Share Posted February 12, 2017 Doubt it. It's about $10 more expensive per bottle and I'd bet the majority of cruisers would complain that it didn't taste right. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
mollyeilis Posted February 12, 2017 #20 Share Posted February 12, 2017 That Quebec picture is funny, but they are talking about the fake stuff, not about syrup from trees in other parts of the world. :) What's funny is that I grew up with a mom from Schenectady so she always had real syrup, and I despised it. I yearned for Log Cabin. Then I ended up with a husband and son who react terribly to corn syrup, and truly cannot have the fake stuff. So it's back to syrup from trees for me. (which just seems so weird...tree blood...odd)

Sent from my SM-G935V using Forums mobile app we do also.....one trip we were in Newark N.J. and because of construction we had to exit and be re screened for security. We purchased our maple syrup at the BTV airport past security and you guessed it, we had to give up our liquid gold BUT we made a couple ticket agents very, very happy.
