New Princess livery ugly?

Like it or not like it it really doesn't matter unless one would actually decide which Princess ship to sail on based solely on if it does or does not have the livery.

To me we'll sail on the ship based on the itinerary and dates we prefer and if it has the livery that's fine and we'll like it and if it doesn't that's fine and we'll like that, too.

My next Princess cruise is (hopefully) in 183 days. I actually don't care if there's a Sea Witch on the bow or not. If there is, I'll take a picture of it. I'll probably take several pictures of it from lots of different angles. You know I love to take lots and lots of pictures. If there's no Sea Witch on the bow I'll be sure to post a Live thread and let you know. Either way I'll post a Live thread. Maybe. Don't get your hopes up. Especially Andrew. You know how he gets. ;) lol Just kidding Andrew. I can't compete with your Live threads anyways. Never mind. No Live thread. I'll just cancel my cruise. Darn it. Now I'm all sad and stuff.

I was one of the people that got the survey. I indicated that I liked the classic design rather than any of the splashy new logo choices.

IIRC, there was a question asked if I "had to choose a new design" which one would it be. This was my choice, as I had to choose one. Still seems a bit "in your face" but I think it will grow on me.

Are the alternative designs from the survey posted anywhere? I'd love to see those. I'm not a fan of this new Princess livery either, however it looks much better on the Royal-class bow than the Grand-class. The curves of the Grand-class bow distorts the Sea Witch almost beyond recognition.

Not that I've seen outside of the survey. The others were, in my opinion, degrees of gaudier.

I've never heard the Love Boat theme for real, as I come from the UK, so the Royal / Regal horn just seemed odd as I didn't know what it was supposed to be doing.

How could you have missed The Love Boat? It's on one of the TV channels of every Princess ship. You can watch it on your next cruise and see what you missed.:)

I agree with those who say "Who cares" It is a Princess decision that has no effect on the cruising day to day experience. Paint the ships anyway they want except haze grey.

What's wrong with haze grey? Some of my favorite ships have been painted haze grey.:)

It looks like a cheap tattoo and, as such, making the cruise line seem cheap, too.

I wish PCL would save the money on the hull tattoos fleet-wide and invest in enhancing the on-board experience instead, such as the food in the MDR and HC that they started to cut back on in 2008 (when the cost of fuel rose significantly).

Or bring back the better balcony furniture and better maintain the older ships like Celebrity does.

We don't care for the Royal class. We have been on the Royal and considered it nothing short of STUPID in design and layout. The Buffet was the BEST, but everything else on the ship seemed liked an after-thought . . .and made no sense.

I also don't understand how PCL can offer the Majestic to a Western Market (Europe) for a few months with the removal of lounges for VIP Gambling rooms.

As such, it is getting harder and harder to find a PCL ship for us. Island = BUTCHERED, Grand = Mechanical headache, Diamond = GONE due to changes.

As for "Local Cuisine" attempts on the MDR menus, DH was in Vietnam during the 60's. (He was a Grunt) He just doesn't want Asian cuisine, at all. They put ground glass in his bread back in the day. Don't judge. You weren't there.

I am going to give my opinion. I think it is ugly and atrocious, however I have a few better ideas of how it can be implemented.

1. All new builds from Royal and Regal Princess and the new Majestic Princess can have this livery and every ship built after them.

2. In order to keep loyal passengers happy leave all existing ships in their existing livery until they are retired.

By doing this the new livery will be phased in gradually and will not drastically change the appearance of existing ships that passengers know and love as their favourite. It will also signify that this is the direction Princess is going in the future and it will respect the past by leaving the existing ships like Grand, Golden, Star, Diamond, Sapphire, Crown, Emerald, Ruby, Coral and Island as they are.

This is my opinion of how it should be done.

Can I ask what is wrong with Diamond Princess? It is exactly the same as it always has been. There have been minimal changes to it except for the addition of Japanese style baths and a few interchangeable toilet seats for when the ship is based in Japan.

As someone who has cruised on it regularly since it entered service I can assure you it is pretty much exactly the same as it was since day 1.

Although the decor is a little different (more contemporary), it is still "Princess". As for the interior layout of the Royal-class, I posted this back in 2014:

"For all intent and purposes the Royal-class and Grand-class really aren't that much different in their general layouts:

- Main showrooms (Princess Theater and aft main showroom) are in the exact same place.

- Main Dining Rooms (all three of them) are in the same exact place.

- Atrium and it's three main venues (International Cafe, Vines, Crooners) are in the exact same locations.

- The gift shops are all pretty much in the exact same area.

- Not all Sabatini's and Crown Grill restaurants are in the same place on all Grand Class, nor are all casinos, however...

- The Casino is still basically in the same place.

- The three elevator banks are in the exact same place.

- The alternate entertainment venue (Princess Live) is in the exact same place as it's corresponding venue on the Grand-class ships.

- The main interior thoroughfare on Promenade Deck (from Princess Theater at the very front of the ship to the aft showroom at the stern) still runs along the exact same path.

- The main pool deck venues (Prego, Trident Grill, soft serve ice cream, Mermaids Tail bar) are all in the same general areas as on the Grand-class.

- The Horizon Court and Outrigger Bars are in the same place.

- The Sanctuary is in the same place.

Now, if you're more specific and say that that the new location of the Fitness Center wasn't where you'd like it to be, or the combination venue of the Crown Grill and Wheelhouse Bar doesn't work for you, or the atrium was too big for you, or the Spa location and Photo Gallery location was weird, then we have specifics. But that's all still just personal opinion.

I spent two weeks on Royal Princess and on Day 1 found it very easy to make my way around the ship. I'm sure having studied the deck plans for six months helped, but the general layouts of the Royal Princess really isn't that much different than Ruby Princess."

So, you see it really isn't stupid in design and layout. That is unless you've never been on a Grand-class Princess ship and we're just lost for the entire week and didn't look at the deck plans.

The bow art of a ship is literally ZERO percent of your cruise experience: the waitstaff serving your meals; the food in ALL of those wonderful, various dining areas; the shows and entertainers in the different entertainment venues; the ambience of the public rooms while you sip your favorite drink and listen to a quartet, read a book, or listen to the ocean; your fellow cruise passengers; the weather during your cruise; the ports of call and the locals you run into; the Cruise Director, Maitre D, Guest Services, Shore Excursion Desk, and other crew members you run across every day; the comfort of your cabin accommodations; and the various services and amenities aboard the ship combined are what make up the cruise experience.

Dave - I just wanted to thank you for one of the best, but still succinct, descriptions I've read of why we like Princess so much. It is much more informative than my usual response of "because it fits us well." :D I might need to steal it in the future!

Meant to say WERE JUST LOST not WE'RE JUST LOST, but I'm sure you knew what I meant.

What's wrong with haze grey? Some of my favorite ships have been painted haze grey.:)

Nothing wrong with haze grey, some of my favorite ships were that color as well during my twelve years in the US Navy. Still dream about those days even now, 27 years after getting out with my Honorable Discharge. But I like my cruise ships "not haze grey", if you know what I mean ;). Don't want to have any unnecessary "flashbacks":o.

Classic. People have been painting ship prows for thousands of years.

Interesting… Never thought much about the art on the bow of the ship.

I did a little research at google U. It is interesting to read the history and origins of prow art. The fact that legend and customs see the art is the "eyes" of the ship to guide her safely through the waters, Princess made a good choice using the Seawitch.

If the Seawitch is guiding the ship through the waters. Can someone tell her she's looking the wrong way. So turn around before something happens.
