Before you book NCL Jewel - - - Some thoughts

This is the exact same way I experienced the NCL Jewel. Kids running around everywhere you go. Assaulted in the theater by a woman over a seat. Nothing done about it. People wearing old dirty shorts and T shirts with lots of ugly tattoos and bare feet dancing in the bar/lounge area at night.

People didn't dress up for anything, very low class dumpy people on this ship. Don't cruise this ship or you will be very disappointed.

I love going to the pool and sometimes there will be quite a "show" and if it's not for me then I'll head to my balcony. When you cruise bring your good attitude, be optimistic, be polite and friendly and you'll have a great time.

This is how we do it and we've never had a bad cruise. I also research extensively before I book - these forums are a gold mine of information and differing viewpoints so if you can read between the lines a bit, you can figure out which lines/time of year/destinations might fit best with your idea of a great vacation. :)

PS - I don't have any tattoos at all

Which part of free style cruising do you not understand? And if you get assaulted and didn't fight back to defend yourself, don't expect anyone to lift a finger to assist you.

well the only ship I have been on with kids out of control happened to be Celebrity over Thanksgiving several years ago. We just got off the Breakaway; spring break, too many kids for me, but they were anything but unrully and they were shut inside a good part of the cruise due to back weather.

It amazes me how someone can judge the class of people based on personal opinion: I know for a fact, many NCL cruisers come from class, money and are educated or at least know how to relate: A few of these cruisers are family members of mine or friends. Just because they look forward to a few weeks of relaxation every so often does not make them classless: they show their class by not judging other.

Per your other comment, You were expecting a SWAT team at San Pedro and no one on the ship took you seriously. If you allege an assault and complain about kids running around in the same sentence, I don't think you took it seriously either.

Just remember, unless you are Oprah, Warren Buffet, Mark Cuban or the like... there is always someone looking down at YOU perhaps. Just sayin.

I'm not sure WB looks down on anyone, met him briefly once, seemed a nice bloke.

I think this is a fair review. The OP clearly stated these were her opinions and didn't only post what she didn't like, she said what she did like. I love how people get so defensive of their preferred line.

Look in the mirror before you start judging anyone. We just got off the Jewel on Sunday 4/9 and during the cruise, I was one of your "low class dumpy people" as I dressed down for all meals, wore shorts, t-shirts, have multiple tattoos, riding on a scooter (as I have a disability) and was just enjoying that I was on VACATION. Because once I'm home, I have to dress in a suit and tie daily, that allows me to live a very, very comfortable life and home, and am a sweet, kind, compassionate, and generous person...so I've been told, but you wouldn't have known that with your disapproving glares.

Perhaps, for your next cruise, charter a private yacht, such as the Atessa IV that was docked in Puerto Vallarta? Don't mind the tattoos though, the crew keeps them covered.

It isn't defense of the line, it is defense of the people she is casually denigrating.

Fair? It was so full of innuendo and disrespect.

If you consider insulting passengers a "review". And you are following up by criticizing people who don't like being insulted. Hmmmm.

I'm so confused right now. I am a 24+ year career officer in the US military, rather well-behaved, love to dress up on cruises (heels, dresses, and all), never wear shorts or baseball caps, but have loads of lovely, well-executed tattoos, love music, and don't drink by the pool all day. I've never thrown up in a hallway or public bathroom, and enjoy sailing in suites. As asked by a previous poster, am I supposed to love or hate NCL? I'M SO CONFUSED! ;p:')

I think YOU might love it. But YOU won't know until YOU try. Most people respect that NCL offers many CHOICES for what YOU want YOUR vacation to be.

First Thank You for serving your country. Amazing!!!!!

The Jewel is a wonderful ship with a terrific staff. I am about to head back for my 3rd Jewel cruise in 15 months. I love The Jewel and Her Staff. Current Senior Management Staff both Bridge and Hotel are among the best in the Norwegian. This will be my 35th Norwegian cruise.

Enjoy!!! Every passenger has a different view of each cruise, some good and some not so good.

OH MY GOD!!!!

I guess I need to cancel all my Princess Cruises.

I wasn't aware of the Tattoo restrictions.

Do you think they will let me use my "formal attire" to cover my tattoos while I'm sitting by the pool being forced to listen to the overly loud movie/concert on MUTS?

P.S. I'm 56 and am usually considered, as you say, "those types"

Love this!!!

Guess I picked the wrong line for all my tattoos as well!!!

Just got off the Jewel March 19th.....Had a wonderful time, Aft Penthouse Suite!!! Everyone/everything was great!

P.S. I'm 32, Married, have 2 kids, from Southern California,

I am trying very hard to bite my tongue. Oh what the hell, I found the review a bit rude & extremely condescending. Furthermore:

1. I have no tattoos but some of my favorite people do.

2. Yes, I enjoy sitting by the pool having cocktails. I'm on VACATION.

3. I love good food, have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the country. I include Cagney's on that list. But food is subjective. What I like you may think is junk but the difference is, I don't judge you.

4.i don't like kids running amok anywhere but that's not a problem specific to the Jewel.

5. If I wanted an "all inclusive" I'd go to one.

6. The only place I'm nickeled & dimed is in the casino, my choice.

7. I go on vacation to have a very laid back and very unpretentious time. If you want pretentious, stay in Southern California.

8. The Jewel is really small for a cruise ship but really big enough. No sure what the meaning is there but ok.

9. The water slide should be for the kids. You want an adult waterside, Atlantis in the Bahamas might be right up your alley.

10. You don't mind your kids. If I minded my kids, I'd leave them at home.

11. I do like music but if I get tired of it, I go where there isn't any. I don't remember it being everywhere on the ship.

12. I'm not uptight about my stateroom but I do expect it to be clean. If it wasn't, I told them and that was remedied. But there again, that could happen on any ship & any cruise line.

13. I don't get seasick so I can't speak to dancing & seasickness.

14. Kids are okay everywhere. You say that like its a good thing.

15. I do like to dress up occasionally and I even do that on board NCL but it's on my terms not theirs. But if someone is in shorts and flip flops, it doesn't effect me in anyway.

Last but not least, I have been on approximately 25 cruises over the last 15 years on many different cruise lines and many different size ships and the bottom line is , it is what you make it. You can go and be critical of everyone and everything or make the best of it and thank god that you are able to take a vacation with your family. Hard to believe but some people aren't that fortunate.

P.S. It doesn't matter how old you are, if you're married, how many kids you have or where you're from.

Thanks, Donna - I was just being goofy. I've LOVED all of my NCL cruises (yes, even Epic) and can't wait for my next one. After 1 inside, 5 suites, and 1 studio sailing, I'll keep coming back as long as NCL keeps putting out a great product. Also, always enjoy seeing your well-worded responses and reviews on here, by the way. :)

You're very welcome - I always tell people if I didn't love it, I wouldn't keep doing it. Although it's getting about that time, as I'm retiring next year. :D Hoping to cruise on Jewel (or one of her sister ships) some day - hard to believe that out of 7 (plus one booked next year) cruises, I haven't sailed on that class yet! I hear nothing but god things!

I don't read her review as being insulting. She stated what she saw. And I didn't criticize anyone. I simply stated that people are passionate about their preferred line and don't like when others don't feel the same way. It happens with all lines. People are so sensitive about everything.

I don't have a problem with people being passionate about their favorite cruise line and I don't have a problem with someone's opinion about said cruise line. What I have a huge issue with is when someone judges another person for 1. Having tattoos 2. Enjoying themselves by the pool with a cocktail. 3. By what a person wears. I could go on but you get my drift. It's not being sensitive, it's called being NON JUDGMENTAL.

Again, I didn't take her tone as being judge mental toward certain groups. I could be mistaken however. Tone is not clear when posting online. I guess I didn't find it offensive but can understand some did.

Agree with this. People who are upset about someone being supposedly judgemental and then saying far worse than was originally posted.

Some of the comments to the OP are a bit harsh. Overall think she enjoyed the cruise and relaxed with the vibe after a couple of days. Maybe it's not her usual style but she liked it overall. Would like to try something with no formal nights or set dining, but seems like OP missed the dress up aspect, and the passengers. Thinking of trying NCL ( mostly CCL so far) so good to hear the good and the meh.
