Paulinda Posted June 24, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2017 We have a 4:50 PM flight home after disembarking from our cruise. The ship is to be in port by 7am. If we use the HAL airport shuttle what is the appx. latest time we can stay on board? If we use luggage direct and only have a small carry on left would it make sense for us to visit a beach and then take a taxi to the airport? We don't especially want to get to the airport at 11:00 am for a 4:50 pm flight. Just looking to kill some time.

That means 9:30 AM is the latest you should be departing the ship.

HAL offers some transfers to the airport with a tour to help fill in some time. If you are just doing a HAL transfer you will need to get off the ship before 9:30 (that would be the latest time if you are getting off on your own) - it will be the time on your shore excursion ticket to meet up. For FLL, it is a cheap taxi to get to the airport. If you are able to use luggage direct, you could take a cab to a hotel to enjoy the day or the water taxi and tour around or even go for lunch/shopping. Lots to do in FLL. Paulinda Posted June 24, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted June 24, 2017 Thanks Crew News and Kazu! Yes, disembarking in FLL. I never thought about doing an excursion with HAL but will check to see what's offered. Your quick responses are certainly appreciated!
Rare Crew News Posted June 24, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2017 Be prepared for Customs chaos at the HAL terminal with several ships disembarking at the same time. Allow extra TSA screening time at the airport with many ship's passengers all flying out on the same day. Global Entry and the accompanying TSA Pre-Check will speed up both your Customs and airport experience.
Splinter Posted June 24, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2017 Usually you must be completely off the ship by 1000, but that can vary by the port. You don't mention which port you are disembarking, so difficult to give any advice about what to do with your time!
Rare bluesplayer Posted June 24, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 24, 2017 We took a boat tour of the canals (Celebrity tour) I imagine this company works with all the cruise ships. It was a very nice tour to see the homes and yachts on the canal.. was great being outside. So glad we did. The airline gate did not open until about 90 minutes before the flight (Alaska) nothing at the airport until you after you check in. No restaurants.. very boring waiting. i think you would be very glad you took a tour.. we really enjoyed ours! They take all your luggage along and you are dropped off at the airport. Easy!!! Krazy Kruizers Posted June 24, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 24, 2017 Usually there are 2 tours offered. One is the Everglades boat ride -- really great. Another is the Intercoastal waterway boat tour -- it is nice tour. Your luggage goes right on the bus with you.
Sequim88 Posted June 26, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 26, 2017 In Seattle we got assigned to group Grey 3 which was the last color/number listed on the chart and set for 9:30 - 9:45am. Since we are "locals" and had no airline involvement we figured this was on purpose to keep us out of the way of those who did. Ship was pretty darned empty when we went off at 9:30. Even then when we came back to cabin after breakfast in Lido the room as about half made up for next passengers and just needed finishing touches (vacuuming, bathroom, wipe down) to be ready when people started coming aboard an hour or so later. Gidget424 Posted June 28, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 28, 2017 We're arriving in the Port of Honolulu on Oct 5 at 8:00am on the HAL Noordam. We then want to take a flight from Honolulu airport to Maui where we'll be staying. We'd like to stay on the ship as long as possible so if we disembark around 10:00am, what time should we book at flight to Maui on Hawaiian airlines? We were thinking a noon flight but not sure if that gives us enough time to get to the airport? Would a 1:00 or 2:00 fight be better and are their airport shuttles from the port? JVilleGal Posted June 28, 2017 #11 Share Posted June 28, 2017 They will have the entire ship cleared of passengers before 9:30 with most off by 9am Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Gidget424 Posted June 28, 2017 #12 Share Posted June 28, 2017 In that case, would we make a 12:10pm flight?
Rare *Miss G* Posted June 28, 2017 #13 Share Posted June 28, 2017 HNL is an extremely busy airport, and Honolulu traffic is intense. Lines were crazy long through Security to get to the gates. Your only prayer to make a 12:10pm flight from the ship is to have TSA Pre. And even then I'd be biting my nails. But so worth it.
Rare Hlitner Posted June 29, 2017 #14 Share Posted June 29, 2017 We will often stay aboard until about 9:45....assuming that disembarkation goes at the normal pace. Usually they will start making announcements around that time for everyone to get off. Since passengers doing a back to back cannot reboard until everyone has gotten off and cleared immigration....it is really rude for anyone to stay beyond the time that they do ask for everyone to be off the ship. As to using a HAL transfer at Port Everglades.....our only question is why? Taxis, Uber and Lyft are all significantly less expensive and you do not have to wait around on a bus...until its full. Plus, a taxi, Uber or Lyft will drop you at the right terminal and door for your particular airline. With a full day to kill its a big problem unless you do take one of the excursions. Using luggage direct does not solve the problem of your valuables (in carry ons). Sometimes if we have a real late flight (in various ports) we will rent a car for the day which gives us a place to lock our luggage...allows us flexibility to do as we please, and also provides our airport transportation.
