dani negreanu Posted July 3, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 3, 2017 We stayed in the Condado area and took the local bus near the hotel to OSJ - Best Western Condado Palm & Suites - very value for money :D
RubyGold Posted July 3, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 3, 2017 We stayed in chateau Cervantes, Just a couple of streets up from the port area in old San Juan. It is a small boutique style hotel. Really lovely rooms, not huge unless you get the master suite on the top floor. Well worth it in my opinion. There is also a free breakfast included. A taxi to the port was $15.

saibutterfly Posted July 3, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 3, 2017 We stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan. Loved it for its central location in Old San Juan...it allowed us to walk everywhere. Also, the staff was very helpful and friendly. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
jacketwatch Posted July 3, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 3, 2017 The Sheraton OSJ is a good choice for a lot of reasons. It's close to the pier, nice views, it's a nice hotel and there are a lot of restaurants and bars practically across the street.
maryjaden Posted July 3, 2017 #11 Share Posted July 3, 2017 Sheraton OSJ is also in the same block as a Walgreens for any last minute things you may need.

alfaeric Posted July 3, 2017 #17 Share Posted July 3, 2017 Any pointers while there? We'll be staying for a few days post cruise at the El Convento in September. Dan. The lower two floors are the original convent, so the ceilings are very high. We have also found that the rooms with a small terrace are really nice. We need to try a few more rooms, but our favorites are 219 and 519. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
newcruiser80 Posted July 3, 2017 #18 Share Posted July 3, 2017 Depends on what you're looking for. Do you want beach? Do you want something nice but easy for embarkation? We alway stay at the Sheraton Casino which is around the corner from the pier. JFK flights usually get in late so we're not worried about local restaurant options. There is a Texas de Brazil and casino on the property and the pool is beautiful. We usually take a swim prior to heading to the pier and the pool overlooks the ship. Easy and reasonable. There is no longer a casino, as of 2015. The only casino out there is at the Embassy Suites, isla verde (on Tartak Street). ColoradoGurl Posted July 3, 2017 #22 Share Posted July 3, 2017 We stayed at the Embassy Suites (the one I mentioned in the post above regarding casinos). It's close to the airport, but far from Old San Juan (you'll need to take a $25 taxi or have a rental car, the bus might get you there too). So many people recommend the Sheraton Old San Juan that I have that one booked for next time. We liked the Embassy Suites because we tend to stay at a lot of them when we travel and like the rooms and the fact that we always get free breakfast. However we didn't love being so far from old San Juan as it was a hassle to drive there and find parking, and the streets are narrow and hard to navigate. We just would have preferred to be able to walk there, and didn't wander through the shops and restaurants as much as we would have liked because we didn't feel like getting the car back out and driving down there. We ended up eating at Burger King one night because it was close to the Embassy Suites, rather than a local Puerto Rican restaurant, which we would have preferred. The Embassy Suites does have a nice pool area and is close to a beach though, so it is a nice hotel and I would recommend it if you aren't planning to spend much time in old San Juan. They also have a casino. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
