Vision of the Seas- so what do you like about the ship and not like very much?

Recommended Posts

Never Heard much from anyone who stayed in Jr Suites?? On the Vision in August, Med 12 nt cruise, we chose the destinations/ports and just roll the dice for what ship we get...

We done about 30 nights in JS staterooms on Vision. No big problems. Occasional noise from the pool deck above. Miss the walk-in closets on the newer ships.

We love Vision, sailed on her 4 times, short cruises and a TA, we are doing the TA in October this year, last time we had Captain Lis who was very visible and Steve Davis as CD who was excellent. We have been on all classes of ship but we do prefer the smaller Vision and Radiance class.

DH and I are just off Vision from Jan 17th sailing. We had our first ocean view cabin on Deck 4, #4528. Loved all the light the window provided. Closet and drawers provided plenty of storage. There was one large chair, no fridge. Cabin was convenient to the elevator, theater and casino one deck up, and activities in the main Centrum area. We were never disturbed by noise or morning announcements. After a stressful "icy" start, we really enjoyed our time on Vision and are looking forward to sailing on her again in April.

We were in ocean view cabin #2580 last October, from QuebecCity to CapeLiberty.

No complain about the ship.

Park Cafe is our nightly visits.

MDR staff spoils us. We book MTD and got the same table same writer every night except day 1.

Crown Lounge is a nice, quiet place to watch the ocean sailing by.

Enjoy your cruise.

We are on the Vision next May/June for Med cruise. My husband doesn't really care for the real big ships so this should be a nice change for him. We chose this ship because of the itinerary. It's a port intensive cruise so I figure we will be eating a lot of lunches in port and dinner in Venice when we overnight there. We haven't been overly impressed with the food on any of the RC cruises we've been on so we don't have high expectations (we were spoiled by the food on Disney when our daughter was younger)

Our DD turns 18 the day we get off the ship and she love Italian so we my try Giovanni's Table on night to celebrate her birthday.

Looking at the Vision out of New Orleans for Dec. 2018. The kids-free special makes for pretty good pricing.

1. Any input/information on the Family Oceanview (Ultraspacious oceanview) staterooms? Not the suites on the 8th deck, but the larger oceanviews on decks 2,3 & 4?

2. Any updates on the possible drydock November 2018?

TIA,:)

I would also like to know if the Solarium pool is heated? We will be on the TA in April. I sure hope it is. For some reason We have always found the pools really cold on RCCL. Thanks

Pool water is not heated, except possibly via the sun or ambient air in the Solarium.

Vision is my favorite ship by far!

MDR service is outstanding! Park Cafe is one of the best on Royal. Centrum and RBar lot's of fun....better entertainment than theater, especially when Capt Marek is entertaining. He is one of the big pluses for this ship. Great diamond lounge, Schooner Bar too. Been on her 6 times by choice, and doing Med cruise in October followed by TA to Miami. Can't say enough about the crew......although there was one bad apple at lunch and breakfast.....one time only!. Something like that is not enough to ruin a great cruise. It has become a good joke to tell. Got a lot of mileage out of "What is your soup of the day" "Cream of mushroom and I don't know" "Can I have some pepper" "We only have one for the whole dining room" LOL

In 70+ cruises on various lines, I have to be honest that I never gave a hoot about the Captain as long as s/he got me where I needed to be in a safe manner. (I've cruised many times on X w/ Captain Kate ... don't know her last name.... hence the She) Mostly I couldn't tell you their names (I'm sure they feel the same about me.... just sayin') but I have to 2nd (3rd 4th 5th) that Captain Marek is one of the best things about that ship. On embarkation day, he was standing in the terminal just past security welcoming everyone on board and he was at the gangway on embarkation bidding people goodbye. Just kind of low key "welcome" kind of thing. Very nice.

He sang at several events and he was GOOD. And fun. And enthusiastic.

I also asked some of the crew if he was as congenial w/ them and every single person was VERY enthusiastic and said they really enjoyed working on ships with him. That he attends crew karaoke and socializes with them in the crew bar, and that he really wants to insure a happy crew. And boy did it show. I've had only a very few unpleasant issues as far as staff/crew on any line, but on the Vision everyone seemed uniformly happy to be there which makes the passengers' experience so much better.

I was initially hesitant to go on the Vision b/c it was older and smaller, but it was an OUTSTANDING experience, in large part b/c of Capt Marek and the general atmosphere aboard. Sometimes I go on youtube and look up Captain Marek and Mustang Sally. It always makes me smile.

So glad to hear how much you liked the Vision. What did u like so much about Park Cafe? What kind of food do they serve?

Thanks

Park Cafe is my place to go every time I need some snacks or hot chocolate drink. Either we sit down and enjoy, or we do take away.

It is opened until late night.

Just off of Vision today!

PROS:

Captain Marek. Like an earlier poster said..I don't care about the captains. Totally different story. Marek interacts with the passengers, sings in the Centrum (don't miss out on him doing Bon Jovi), and genuinely enjoys his job and his staff.

Windjammer. I have been on several RC cruises and generally avoid this like the plague. However, the variety and quality was much better this go-round. I actually only went to the dining room ONCE.

A smaller ship - so it doesn't have a very crowded feel.

I will say my cabin was kind of close to the Centrum...and we never heard a thing.

Embarkation and debarkation - unbelievably quick and easy!

Staff. Everyone we saw was so nice.

Not many kids. I'm not trying to sound hateful, but after my last Carnival cruise, this was a plus.

CONS:

Shopping. The prices are always jacked up on cruise ships, but it was ridiculous.

The cruise director. I'm sure he's a nice guy but he was as entertaining as a wet rag.

The "one man show"..ugh. Just don't. Just. Don't.

Inconsistency with drinks. A caiparhaina on one side of the boat was totally different that one at the bar on another side of the boat.
