Snap Sale- Meditteranean Cruise- is this a good price?

We have just booked a snap sale price of $5700 for 3 people in a verandah cabin for 12 day Mediterranean Cruise summer of 2018. Is this a good price? Based on what we priced this cruise at last winter,(thousands more) it seemed like a great deal, so we * snapped * it up. Our 8 year old son is just back from camp and the itinerary has him very excited, almost as excited as we are about the price.

Were you required to pay a lower deposit?

If so -- if you have to cancel -- you will not get your deposit back.

Hopefully you checked the fine print.

Print not fine, deposit quite low and clearly states forfeited if we should cancel. Thanks for your input!

I tried to check a cruise we are interested in for the Mediterranean but I have to put too much info in to see what their 50% reduced deposit is-do you mind saying what it was?

 

With this snap sale I don't like the non-refundable deposit since we wouldn't be going until 2018. The price may be ok but it depends on the amount of deposit required for us.

$780. I think that's standard. Each of us have our own risk tolerance levels vis a vis deposits and cancellation policies. Many have zero tolerance. We consider that amount fair for the 'fare' we are getting.

Thanks for the info. Yes, we all have our own risk tolerance. Since we are older with some health issues our tolerance isn't great.

 

It sounds like you got a good deal with lower price worth the risk to you.

When you compared this price to last year's, did you take into account any "perks" that you would have gotten last year (like OBC, free drinks, free tips, etc)? It appears that these Snap fares are basic fares, lacking any extra perks. Need to compare "apples to apples".

 

I just looked at the Snap fare for a 16 day Panama Canal cruise and found that while it is $500 pp less than two weeks ago, I would not get about $600 pp in perks/extras, so pretty much a wash.

This fare is so significantly reduced (and I am now noticing, includes a casino discount) that they could perk us til the cows come home, would still take this fare. We dont drink enough to justify drink packages (though had them in the past and they're nice) and am confident the obc, tips that may be in the offing later still wont touch this price.

For us in Europe all cruises are non-refundable deposit.

 

We take out insurance as soon as we book. If we have to cancel for health reasons or similar we get our money back from the insurance company.

Seems kind of high for me! I try and book a balcony for $100 p/d, per/p times 12 days or $3500. Keep an eye on the prices because you may want to cancel and re-book! Beware that Summer is full of children, so it may not be a pleasant experience!

The OP has a child so I think summer travel with children will be fine. I don't the $100 per day in Europe is a reasonable expectation unless you book very last minute or it's part of TA.

 

For us a better price is far better than perks that we may or may not use. The interesting thing is we always buy internet and eat a lot in extra pay restaurants but don't drink much.

Oosterdam. Never been, but I think she is in the same Vista family as Westerdam who we have sailed on many times.

Children onboard are fine with us. We have an 8 year old in tow, this is all about showing him Europe.

You'll know in about 2 weeks if it's a good price when you compare your fare to one with Explore 4.

I tried a dummy booking still under snap fare price for same cruise, only difference being without plugging in our mariner numbers, and it comes out $1730 more.

We're also 'older' -- and we purchase travel insurance. Health issues are covered under most travel insurance. And, since my Medicare (our primary health insurance) does not cover us outside of the US, the medical coverage provided by our travel insurance make it worth the purchase price for us. You can find all sorts of policies online -- more policies than I could count.

Just a quick note regarding Medicare coverage. Last year on a Scandinavia sailing, I visited the doctor onboard a ship, received medication, and an office visit. It was just the one visit. Upon arrival at home I applied to the ship insurance company for reimbursement. They said I must first apply to my own insurance (Medicare) and they would cover the remainder. Medicare covered most of the bill, with the secondary shipline insurance covering the rest. This was only onboard, not on shore in a foreign port.
