Rare Gail & Marty sailing away Posted September 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2017 what were the start dates in the past for the World Cruise? thanks Marty
rkacruiser Posted September 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2017 Almost always in early January. The Amsterdam (or Prinsendam when in such service) would sail a Christmas/New Year's itinerary, then return to Port Everglades to start the Grand World Voyage for that year. SJSULIBRARIAN Posted September 30, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 30, 2017 I have been watching World Cruise blogs for about 10 years and think all have started in early January after a Christmas/New Year's cruise. 2019's late start may be a first. rkacruiser Posted September 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 30, 2017 Thanks so 2019W.C which Will start on January 22 has never happened before? I think there is a reason or two for that. An Amsterdam dry dock in the Bahamas before the cruise, I think. Also, since the itinerary includes calls at Northern Europe ports, if I recall correctly the itinerary I have seen, the time of the year those port calls are made may also be a factor. Rare kazu Posted September 30, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 30, 2017 Thanks so 2019W.C which Will start on January 22 has never happened before? Not that I have seen in the last decade. I checked my old FCL's and the predominant dates seemed to be Jan. 3rd - 6th. I agree with previous posters and think the drydock and itinerary have something to do with the timing ;)

RuthC Posted October 1, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 1, 2017 Also, since the itinerary includes calls at Northern Europe ports, if I recall correctly the itinerary I have seen, the time of the year those port calls are made may also be a factor. Good thinking! I noticed how in 2019, when the ship exits the Med to enter the Atlantic, it turns right instead of left. Makes for a very interesting ending to that WC.
