flamingogal75 Posted October 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2017 After my simple question about ice which gendered a lot of discussion, I have another question. Can you use cash to pay for items on board ( US $) for drinks mainly, etc? My daughter was going to get me a Princess gift card but ran out of time. easyboy Posted October 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 30, 2017 You can only use your cruise card to buy items onboard. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
tonyweir Posted October 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 30, 2017 You can put the cash on your board account at guest services and then use your cruise card to pay for whatever.
Daisyloo Posted October 30, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 30, 2017 You cannot use cash on-board to buy a drink in a bar, or to make a purchase in a shop etc. All purchases are applied to your cruise card which is linked to your on-board account. You can put cash towards paying your account, but I think most people have it linked to their credit cards.

My daughter was going to get me a Princess gift card but ran out of time. you cannot use cash in the gift shop. also, if the credit card machine is offline, you will have a clerk stand around 5 minutes waiting for help because she doesnt know to press YES or NO on the terminal they charge it to your room and back it out when the CC goes through. such a simple thing but she never saw it before i like to keep the CC for my ship account clear for things other than gift shop etc purchases but this obviously was not a good idea. JF - retired RRT Posted October 30, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 30, 2017 As others have stated above...the only place cash is king is for TIPS (over & above the daily gratuity and drinks gratuity that are automatically charged to your account). Does that include the casino? I knew everything else was charged to your room...did not know the casino was as well. :o

Cruisin Broad Posted October 30, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 30, 2017 Does that include the casino? As others have stated, you can also add cash to your onboard account by going to guest services and having them apply it to your onboard account/folio. WVBill Posted October 30, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 30, 2017 Here's what I recall from my recent Hawaii cruise: To play the slots in the casino, you need to create a "Casino Account" and attach it to your Room account on your cruise card. You do this at one of the slot machines. you have to create a 4-digit PIN for your Casino Account. You can place money in your Casino account in several ways: 1) go to the cage and give them cash to transfer onto your casino account. 2) feed cash into a slot machine and then "cash out" into your casino account 3) "debit" your room account with a certain amount and add it to your casino account. You can "cash out" your casino account in two ways 1) go to the cage and get cash 2) transfer the balance of your casino account to your room account. 1emerald1 Posted October 30, 2017 #14 Share Posted October 30, 2017 I would suggest that your daughter purchase OBC for you. Two times I have tried to present a Princess gift card to guest services onboard and was unable to do so. I will never purchase, or have my kids purchase for me as a gift, a Princess gift card. pablo222 Posted October 30, 2017 #15 Share Posted October 30, 2017 I would suggest that your daughter purchase OBC for you. Two times I have tried to present a Princess gift card to guest services onboard and was unable to do so. I will never purchase, or have my kids purchase for me as a gift, a Princess gift card. To me, this is overly complicated. The easiest thing -- if you're daughter wants to give you a $100 towards your drinks onboard, etc... Simply go to the purser's desk, and add $100 credit to the mom's account. This can be in cash, or using a credit card. Then, mom has a $100 positive balance, and she can draw it down with her onboard purchases.
LeeW Posted October 30, 2017 #16 Share Posted October 30, 2017 Even easier - daughter can call Princess and buy onboard credit before the cruise. Don't even need to know the booking number since they just need name, ship and date.
