Disneyland Park, originally Disneyland, is the first of two theme parks built at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, opened on July 17, 1955. It is the only theme park designed and built to completion under the direct supervision of Walt Disney. A copy of Disneyland, called the Magic Kingdom, was built approx. two decades later as one of the theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando. So the price will keep going up as long as it sails full. That sounds like a common sense way of establishing a value-based price for anything. What profit-oriented company is going to charge less than what it’s public is willing to pay. Put another way: would you sell you house for less than what a buyer would be willing to pay for it?

It kind of helps to know where you are. Disneyland is in Anaheim, California; the much larger Walt Disney World is in Florida. Hate to disappoint you but the Magic Kingdom wasn't built to be a copy of Disneyland. While I consider Disneyland to be my "home" park, the Magic Kingdom is as beautiful and meaningful in its own way. Comparing the two is like trying to compare apples to oranges. Can't be done.

Walt died on December 15, 1966, a good 5 years before the Magic Kingdom opened in October 1071. Yes while Walt did much of the planning of the Magic Kingdom it was actually Roy Disney who oversaw the construction of the Magic Kingdom.

True but the work that Roy did followed Walt's vision for the resort. He made sure they stayed as close as possible to Walt's plan and did a great job in doing so. Unfortunately he passed away 2 months after they opened.

I never said that the Magic Kingdom in the Orlando area was not interesting, unusual and convenient in its own right. Nor did I call it a "fake." We've been there and noticed many of the differences from the real one in Anaheim (e.g., the larger castle). Nonetheless, there remains only one original Disneyland. donaldsc Posted May 30, 2019 #64 Share Posted May 30, 2019 As long as there enough people willing to pay Disney cruise's totally overpriced cruise costs, they will keep the price up. When people finally realize that a Disney cruise is a ripoff and stop booking, the prices will come down. That is the way capitalism works - raise the price until demand drops and then lower the price as necessary to keep the demand up. DON

DON The basic law of supply and demand - in existence long before capitalism evolved - is what justifies Disney cruise prices. Customers would be crazy to pay the prices if they did not think the experience was worth the cost — and Disney would be crazy to charge less than what plenty are willing to pay. Your not appreciating the Disney experience only means that you don’t want to pay the price — it does not mean the cruises are overpriced. I would not want to pay for a Disney cruise either. By the same token, I do not think NCL cruises are worth the price either (to me); by your rationale, that would make them overpriced.
ALWAYS CRUZIN Posted May 30, 2019 #70 Share Posted May 30, 2019 I would never pay there prices. That's me. You ant to spend your money to be with Mickey. Go for it. Most spend the price to show there children a great time. I have read where the grand parents kick in to help pay for the cost. Considering i can get a minimum of two cruises for one of theirs. It makes no sense to me at all. There is NOTHING on there ships that would make me want to pay the price. Nothing! Again, that is me. Nothing justifies Disney's price. nothing. Remember they do not have a casino, so there is no revenue from it.
ALWAYS CRUZIN Posted May 30, 2019 #71 Share Posted May 30, 2019 Just a quick example. OV 4 days July 3rd this year $533.00 pp plus tax and port Carnival 4 day July 4th $158.00 pp plus tax and port. I must agree. Way over priced. How can you justify that price other than Disney sucking it out of you?
ALWAYS CRUZIN Posted May 30, 2019 #72 Share Posted May 30, 2019 Just went to the Disney site and here is the total for the least expensive OV with a PORT HOLE not even a window. 4 days July 3rd for 2, $4,612.

This data is like saying that a Rolls Royce Silver Phantom is overpriced just because it costs much more than a Ford Focus. If the customer base sees value and wants to buy the product, they are paying what the market says it is worth - that means it is not overpriced: expensive, yes — overpriced, no.
