linanles Posted November 26, 2017 #52 Share Posted November 26, 2017 Apparently rumors on board there will be some changes to the ship before Australian/NZ season. It will be interesting to see what develops, plus there are no cruises listed for several months prior to moving the ship to Australia. Isn't this the period when they are fitting it out for the Medallion?
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted November 26, 2017 #53 Share Posted November 26, 2017 While she is operating in China there won't be any cruises listed on the Princess website. Those cruises are only available to Chinese passengers through a Chinese travel company. Essentially the ship is charted to China during that period. So we don't know when the last Chinese cruise is, if there is a gap to allow work to be done on the ship as the rumours suggest, or whether the ship will come straight down to Australia immediately after the last Chinese cruise - which may mean they will do the work during the repositioning cruise. There is no mention of Majestic having the Medallion for the Aussie cruises. Organgrinder80 Posted November 26, 2017 #54 Share Posted November 26, 2017 I guess we're not as adventuresome as we used to be. Cancelled the Majestic and booked the Golden the following week. Golden is in for refurbishment April of 2018 and should be back to her best by the Feb 12th cruise. I like the Wheelhouse lounge and have enjoyed many wonderful evenings there in our 18 Princess cruises. I don't think they will change Majestic enough for Australia, since she is going back to China after. I'll be interested in reading the posts on Majestic after that cruise. For the sake of those booked on her, I hope they enjoy.
Tac123 Posted November 26, 2017 #55 Share Posted November 26, 2017 I sailed on her from June 18 to July 7th our sailing dropped her off in Shanghai. Overall I loved the ship ....any particular questions you have? What type of update do you want? Hi, We are sailing on the Majestic in March 2018 embarking in Singapore and leaving the ship in Shanghai .Did you need to purchase a Chinese visa before you went or were you exempt under the “144 hour visa exepmtion transit policy”? linanles Posted November 26, 2017 #56 Share Posted November 26, 2017 There is no mention of Majestic having the Medallion for the Aussie cruises. My mistake. I should have checked further before replying. It's the Golden that is being fitted out in 2018 for the Medallion.
Steelers36 Posted November 26, 2017 #57 Share Posted November 26, 2017 Hi. Is the Hollywood forward area free to use? It is where the Sanctuary would be. The Retreat area is also dubbed Hollywood and is a fully covered deck and pool area that I am pretty sure is free for all. Are there any "luxury" Sanctuary style loungers anywhere? Thanks. Clarea Posted November 27, 2017 #58 Share Posted November 27, 2017 I don’t have a really recent experience, as I sailed on the Majestic Princess in April in the Mediterranean. If you want to see slideshow videos of my pictures, of the ship, I have them posted on YouTube and can be found at this link. Very well done videos.:)
doenbucket Posted November 27, 2017 #59 Share Posted November 27, 2017 We cruised on Majestic from Singapore to Shanghai June 2017. This is my review that was posted on a the roll call for Majestic Brisbane to Hong Kong March 2019, which we booked as soon as the Australian itineraries were released. Returned from our Majestic cruise on Tuesday (11th July). All I can say is…we loved it. This is the largest & newest ship we have been on, so everything was shiny & new, which was really nice considering we get the older ship in Australia. There was a couple of little things we commented on but nothing to complain about. We missed the promenade deck that could be walked all the way around. It is quite narrow in parts because of lifeboats & tenders above. We found it always closed at one end so had to walk through the ship. Food was generally very good in both the International Marketplace (buffet) & restaurants. There was always plenty of seats available in the buffet, but we generally ate at quiet times. The French & Chinese Specialty Restaurants did not seem to be very busy at all. The Pizzeria was always flat out with a waiting time of 45 minutes for pizza at when really busy. As always, Princess pizza is the best. They also serve antipasto & pasta dishes. We love to play trivia but the venue usually used, PrincessLive!, was more of a theatre & it was not possible to group together. So not good. I think trivia was very quiet because of this. The Piazza, deck 5, was a great place to be. The International Café & two bars were in this area. Very big area with lots of tables, chairs & waiter service. There was always something happening on sea days, line dancing, gameshows, Acrobats, dance lessons, live music etc. The Princess theatre is a great venue. Good seating with good views. Some of the shops are really high end, very little going on in there. One big omission are computers in the Internet/library area, only 2 available. Take your own device. About 50 books & a few board games available. Rumours on board, had the ship undergoing a refurbishment prior to its Oz season. These rumour’s included more bars, apparently us Ossie’s like our alcohol, so more bars will fix things for us. They may also increase the size of the internet area & install more computers. I must say, the internet was sooooooo slowwwwwww. Glad I didn’t pay for it. You have to remember, this ship was always meant for the Chinese market & was fitted out that way. Personally, we didn’t notice anything that made it feel too Asian or that would stop us cruising on her again. There were people who had lots to complain about, especially things that were very different to the Royal & Regal, which are the same class of ship. We had no expectations before sailing & we went on board with an open mind. That worked for us. We were not disappointed, this is from our own personal experience. Hope this helps the anyone thinking of travelling on the Majestic.:)

Did you have to purchase a China visa before boarding the ship or were you covered on the 144 hour visa exemption policy? Thanks look forward to hearing from you. Before the cruises ended in Shanghai we stopped in Xiamen, China. So, we needed a multi entry visa which we obtained prior to boarding the ship. We are from Australia so not sure of requirements for UK citizens. We met a couple (Aussies) at check in in Singapore who didn't have the correct visa for China. Don't know what the outcome was for them. We had a really good TA who knew exactly what we needed so we knew what was necessary.
Rare cheznandy Posted November 28, 2017 #62 Share Posted November 28, 2017 We are boarding the Majestic in Shanghai August 2018 for the voyage to Sydney:D We are looking forward to a new ship, and also the differences from the regular Princess ships, including food. We love Asia and have spent lots of our holiday time there, so hoping they keep lots of Asian food on the menu. I think the Majestic will suit Australia just fine. We are used to having ships here that have cruised Asia in our off season.......Diamond Princess, Golden Princess, Sun Princess, Ovation of the Seas, Voyager of the Seas, soon to be Explorer of the Seas to name a few. We expect a bit of a transition on our sailing, but it will be good to see what the changes are as they happen.

cflutist Posted July 30, 2018 #65 Share Posted July 30, 2018 We are sailing on her in September to the South Pacific and March 2019 to New Zealand . Does anyone know where Club Class Dining is? Looked at the deck plans and didn't see it labeled. We will be in suites on the Caribe and Riviera decks. Looking forwards to sailing on a new ship for a change. caribill Posted July 31, 2018 #67 Share Posted July 31, 2018 Does anyone know where Club Class Dining is? Looked at the deck plans and didn't see it labeled. We will be in suites on the Caribe and Riviera decks. It will never show up on a deck plan since it is in a section of one of the main dining rooms, usually one of the two near the atrium. land lover Posted July 31, 2018 #68 Share Posted July 31, 2018 I am glad to see more information is being provided about this ship. I can't wait for my upcoming cruise on the Majestic Princess! I noticed that the Cruise Critic Editor review for Majestic Princess has been updated. It says that the karaoke suites and bubble tea area are being converted to bars At least two venues will be removed before arriving in Australia: six private karaoke rooms, which are set to be turned into a bar, and the bubble tea kiosk. The smoking policy in the casino will also change, with cigarettes permitted only at a designated area of an outdoor deck. Some food and drink selections are currently under revision to suit Aussie tastes, too. The area that the karaoke rooms are in is rather "secretive", long and narrow.. I could see it making a nice hide-away bar.... Boba tea, no more? that will be a loss....Many posters thought the area would become a bar ..but in this article it is not clear about the area's future use. Thanks for posting LSG....
