Seaside Yacht Club Cabanas

... At present it seems, that anybody can walk into the yo yacht club area, because 1) there is no signage and 2) the lock system does not work. When we approached Messina the other morning there was well in excess of 100 people in the area.

This is very disconcerting. On the Divina, they hopped on this kind of thing right away. The butlers and servers knew if you were staying in the YC, and if you were not you were politely escorted out. We saw that happen often at the beginning of the cruise when people were exploring the ship and occasionally the pool area door didn't latch. I hope they fix this, because otherwise it's a deal breaker for us. We don't mind paying for the "ship within a ship" experience with the uncrowded pool area.

it is very easy to have the pool attendant to move loungers - as the sun DOES move - so there are some shady places to be had - and you can find chairs that are facing the opposite way of the sun....

i do like the sun - not to sit out for hours, but i would also be upset if i was sailing on the Mereviglia, as the YC pool has very little sun....

Now, for the price of the Yacht Club, i think they introduced the cabanas for those who DO want shade - and extra revenue for MSC -

You all must have to admit - the price of the Yacht Club is truly remarkable for the product they produce on the ship - and now even upgrading to Premium Cocktails, then taking 1 step further to have the drink package included ship wide -

it is very hard to please everyone - there is not one ship out there today that would please everyone, but by gosh - the Yacht Club on MSC comes very close to pleasing everyone - very, very few negative reviews in the Yacht Club -

so knowing the way the ship is set up - either go to another area of the ship to sit and relax (does it really matter that you are sitting in the One Pool area - drinks are available everywhere) - even your balcony - i can also bet that there will be shady areas in the Yacht Club Lounge, on the exterior, which is so wonderful to have....

IMO, i would probably think they will ban any type of umbrellas brought by passengers to the YC Pool as they would not want to be responsible for a possibly law suit if one of them were to fly off, or if someone accidentally poked their eye out when passing by.....

In ending, perhaps you might see some changes when the ship sails from Miami - doing a TransAtlantic can be crazy weather conditions - so i think we should all stay positive as there are so many negative people on these boards - give MSC a chance -

Honestly, would you really cancel a YC Cruise simply because the sun is shining.....WOW!!!!! - you are in the Caribbean, the sun is everywhere!!!!!!

Agree 100%! :cool::cool::cool: #WeLoveTheYCPool

There is more shade on the Seaside One Pool Deck than on the Divina. If you head towards the hot tub area from the bar/buffet and pool, there are tables on both sides of the ship with several tables under an awning. One side is for smoking, the other is smoke-free. Depending on the time of day and direction, one side provided more shade where the loungers were on those side sections, as well.

I'm just the opposite and was moving my lounger into every bit of sun I could find, lol.

Prices the same. Very little use.

I'm not surprised. The price is hefty.

OTOH, look at all of the comments about shade. If they made them free to use, then they would be overrun and no one would ever be able to get one. They need to charge something to even out demand.

I'd consider a reasonable weekly fee. My life is go go go so when we cruise I just want to sit and read and breathe the fresh air as I watch the ocean

go by. (And eat and drink of course! 😂)

We've been reviewing the deck plans and it's looking like quiet shady space with an open air ocean view is hard to find.

Would definitely appreciate any suggestions!

If not in YC, try Aurea spa day use areas on deck 8. You may have to buy spa access or rent a cabana there.

When we boarded the YC on February 24 we immediately rented a cabana for both sea days. We got off ship in two ports and stayed on ship rest of cruise. "Our" cabana was not used on port days.

On port days we would go to the spa and get to the YC pool in the afternoon. Oneil would always see us and always find an area to put two loungers in the shade. Not having shade was an extreme worry for me prior to boarding and although I still think YC should have some areas with umbrellas, I didnt have any issues relaxing on a lounger in shade.

We are on board now. They are $100 or so for sea days, which I find really steep. They tout services and amenities but really you get those with the YC anyways. Will report back on usage during the week. This is one where I think if they lowered to $50 they would make far more money.

Actually, most is available, but you get afternoon sushi, which would be an extra. We got off today, and made friends with Royal Suite guests. They talked them into comping then, without the refreshments and snacks! Make friends with Royal Suite guests

Hi John - hope you enjoyed your cruise on Seaside. Are you into the rugby? Ireland is heading for a Grand Slam victory next week if we beat England. On St Patrick's Day, too!! We've already won the Championship! :D

(Apologies to OP for off-topic post - just wanted to catch John here).

We did indeed gave a grand time on a beautiful ship!

Can you book the cabanas before the cruise or do you have to do it once onboard?

I wouldn’t bother booking till onboard so you can see what you are getting. We never saw anyone in them. They are a open weave wicker type so not really shady and minimal privacy. Also depending on the position of the ship the sun was shining brightly into them. I was glad we hadnt tried to rent one.

I really hope they continue comping them for RS guests. This is one perk that I would really enjoy next week since I really do like to be in the shade.

I did see one all set up for RS, ice cooler, towels and a sign. This was just yesterday. Nobody used it. It would be a nice perk if free but no way would I pay more than maybe 20.
