Oasis of the seas Questions

Recommended Posts

Couple of questions:

1. For Adventure Ocean for kids, do you sign up ahead of time or when you get to the ship?

2. Are the drink cards a better deal than the most expensive drink package?

Sign up for Adventure Ocean onboard.

Leaving Dec. 10, 2017 on Oasis. Do the men have to wear suits or a sport coat for formal night. He wants to wear dress slacks, shoes & shirt...no tie....no suit. HELP

Would it kill him to have to wear a...gasp...suit? Jacket? Something? There's a reason the evening is designated "formal" night...

Plenty of men don't even own a suit; blue collar workers, male and female, never, ever need them for their jobs. Even in white collar professions business casual has taken over many workplaces. Shirt with tie and dress slacks is plenty dressed up for most occasions.

Having to buy a suit for the cruise, and pay extra baggage fees on planes and so forth, just to get onboard and see lots of other people dressed casually on so-called formal night, is really kind of a tall order for a ship that caters to the mass market and is filled with plenty of people who just want to relax on vacation.

So for this guy, yeah, he doesn't want to deal with it, and his response will be, will it kill you to have to look at me in a. . . gasp. . . collared shirt with dress pants?

Very well said, when i retired all my suits went to Goodwill. i do keep one for wedding and funerals. What folks wear on a cruise doesn't impact my experience one way or the other.

Excellent response! I'd add that we're on vacation in the Caribbean and have no desire to drag along all the extra clothing for the five of us for one or two dinners. We don't do that for any other expensive vacation and see no need to do that on a cruise ship.

Apologies, I think that reply was for a comment by CB at Sea on the solarium roof of Serenade. Not sure how it ended up here. You are a very credible poster.

Thanks. I was racking my brain, trying to think what I could have posted that was negative. We were on Oasis together over Halloween but we never talked, that I know of since I spent most of my time in the casino:halo::halo:

Regarding the dining room and non-formal nights... What about cargo or golf shorts with a golf shirt or short sleeve button-up shirt? DH is having a fit about dressing up for the dining room.

Dress suggestions are not enforced, he can wear whatever he wants.

On Grandeur last year, a man wearing shorts was turned away from the dining room for dinner and went ballistic. I made sure to applaud the Manager for his actions. I tend to follow the rules that are posted in the Cruise Critic and the dining room which state no shorts are allowed in the dining room for dinner.

My opinion/my thoughts.

I agree 100%. It's called basic etiquette.

I went on Allure in 2013, first cruise. I did zero research beforehand, it was a last minute thing. I didn't even know there was a "formal" night until I got on the ship. That being said, I obviously had not packed formal clothes. No big deal. I respected the suggested cruise dress guidelines as well as the other passengers who wanted to enjoy a formal evening, and I stayed out of the dining room that evening. There's plenty of other places to eat, not a big deal.

When you get an invitation to a dinner and the suggested attire is formal, black tie, or cocktail, do you show up in shorts? Of course you don't, you respect the guidelines.

Apparently people on cruises seem to think they're staying at the Holiday Inn and eating at the buffet in the lobby.

Of course we'd all dress as requested for a local gathering with friends and/or family. With 5,500 strangers floating around in the Caribbean for a week? Personally, I won't wear shorts but I certainly won't think twice about wearing business casual and won't judge either those in tuxes or shorts and definitely won't let it ruin even a few hours of my vacation.

I agree you definitely don't have to wear a tux or anything like it but it would be better to wear something other than shorts. However, dress like you wish it doesn't matter much and it definitely wouldn't ruin my night.

I personally don't own a tux, so I stick with a typical business suit. Should have clarified. But heck you're right, business casual is fine as well. Plus that's easy to pack, just like you would any other clothes. I just think that if you can't put forth the effort to go above and beyond shorts and a t-shirt on "formal" night, you're either lazy or you have no self-respect. Or both. Think "Cousin Eddie" from Christmas Vacation movie. :')

We always sign up adventure ocean in terminal after check in process. They give you a daily compass, muster station bands right there before you board. ALOT quicker than upstairs on the first or second night
