MsJersey84 Posted December 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2017 Hi Everyone, This is my husband's and I first NCL cruise we normal cruise with Carnival but due to the experience on our last cruise with Carnival we decided it is time to branch out and find something bigger and better (hoping to find this with NCL). Can someone please explain the bidding upgrade process.. (I have read many different things about how it works. Mostly people complaining about how it a joke.) Also because we booked through a TA does this mean that the program is not open to us?? Thank you in advance and Happy Sailing!!!:*:*
Rare BirdTravels Posted December 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2017 (edited) About 50 days prior to your cruise, you will be given the opportunity to bid on an upgrade (up to 2 cabin classes above). E.g., Inside to Balcony. ocean view to Minisuite. The web site will give you a range of acceptable bids and how “good”’they are. NCL has up to 48 hours prior to cruise to accept or reject your bid. If accepted, your credit card is charged and a new cabin is assigned. Edited December 29, 2017 by BirdTravels

don't-use-real-name Posted December 29, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2017 Have you already booked your cabin ? Through a TA ? If not you may want to review and read on here at CC to see if bidding is a viable option against paying a few dollars more and getting the type of cabin you really want ! There are remarkable stories about folks getting a dream cabin by upgrading (bidding) and then there are the stories that are not printed because the bidding process was just an embarrassment. A full crowded ship is unlikely to be as rewarding where as a semi-full ship success is much better. If you have not booked yet - weigh the odds as if you were playing casino cabin booking ! Good Luck !
I object 2 Posted December 29, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 29, 2017 If we bid on an upgrade and the offer is accepted, would we lose the ultimate drink package promo we received at booking? Jan
deliver42 Posted December 29, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 29, 2017 If you get the bid, you still get what you had when you booked, but if you bid on the Haven, for example, you wouldn't get the additional perks the Haven gets.

deliver42 Posted December 30, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 30, 2017 I don't believe so. That's limited to that catagory.
Hearthosesteeldrumsplayin Posted December 30, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 30, 2017 Just a note: the bidding process is not necessarily given to all passengers. We have received the "lets get you upgraded" notice on some cruises, but not all (using the same TA). I also notice that even if the cruise appears to be sold out, you might still get the notice (I guess that is on the off-chance that someone cancels at the last minute?) Out of 5 cruises, I have received the notice on 3, but so far, have not received an upgrade on any (I am only a fair to low bidder, since I am usually happy with the cabin I originally booked with). So, be sure you are happy with the cabin that you book----make receiving the upgrade icing on the cake, not the cake!

Yes and no. You get whatever PROMOS you have already paid for or were included in your booking. You still get any perks that come from being in the haven as a normal haven passenger - just not the promotions.

Through a TA ?If not you may want to review and read on here at CC to see if bidding is a viable option against paying a few dollars more and getting the type of cabin you really want !.. Passenger appears to have already booked. And, in almost all cases, they get to pick the cabin they want. If they really want a higher cabin, then can call the TA and pay the difference. Bidding may or may not even come available. And getting a winning bid may or may not happen.

Then link to your reservation number - the ncl one, not the TA one. If you don't know it, call ncl directly and they'll retrieve it, also if you have other issues with your reservation, discuss directly with ncl at the same time (like your Latitudes account number). Once that is set up, you may get the upgrade offer. Without it, ncl won't be contacting you. I've never "not received" an offer to upgrade once I connected my reservation to my ncl account online. daleroux Posted August 5, 2018 #15 Share Posted August 5, 2018 We are booked on a TA cruise From Barcelona on November 4. We are paid in full and wondering why why we have received any correspondence about making an offer to upgrade. We are platinum plus and have always bid on upgrades in the past. MikeyB Posted August 5, 2018 #16 Share Posted August 5, 2018 Perhaps your TA is not participating.

deliver42 Posted August 5, 2018 #20 Share Posted August 5, 2018 It also depends on your TA. Not all of them participate. If they don't, you will not have an opportunity.
