Seen worse behaviour on a 12 night premium cruise line! Agreed, we have done several of them. comedy cruises, Food and wine, samplers, different cruise lines, different ships and there is an element aboard every one of them that gets a bit noisy but they are asked to settle down and they generally do. Rare MicCanberra Posted February 11, 2018 #29 Share Posted February 11, 2018 The ship has had to return again due to a medical emergency. They will be docking again for debark tomorrow. An eventful 3 day cruise to nowhere that kept going somewhere.

Esilef Posted February 11, 2018 #31 Share Posted February 11, 2018 Never go on a 3 day cruise ! Sent from my iPad using Forums Short cruises can be fun and a good way to help you fill your cruising fix prior to a longer more expensive cruise. Just like everywhere else if there are people whom are being “trouble” then move away from them.
Rare Redking Posted February 11, 2018 #32 Share Posted February 11, 2018 Cruising doesn't need these type on board any ship. Hopefully they will be penalised sufficiently to rectify their behaviour in society for the future. Maybe it's time the cruise companies stopped the "booze cruises" - this was one of those? Doubtful as revenue is king, but at what point does reputational risk impact their bottom line? Are there any other parts of the world having these problems on cruise ships? Porky55 Posted February 11, 2018 #33 Share Posted February 11, 2018 (edited) Truly, this is the last thing P&O Aus need! Perhaps short cruises aren’t such a great idea? NSWP Posted February 11, 2018 #34 Share Posted February 11, 2018 These 3 day booze cruises do nothing to enhance the reputation of the cruise lines that operate them, be it P&O Australia, Carnival, Princess, RCI, whatever. They have all had adverse publicity in recent years. They attract an undesirable element. Not my cup of tea.:halo: As Mic says, we might be consuming our ship's drinks out of plastic cups. Just like some night clubs are forced to do by the Licensing Authorities.
Russell21 Posted February 11, 2018 Author #35 Share Posted February 11, 2018 Russell21 - nearly right, the footage is on Sunrise now; 6 males and 1 female - the one charged was a female. Considering I beat you by about 18 hours I think I can be excused for giving the news, straight from an observers mouth, with a slight omission. ;p;p

Rare DandDM Posted February 11, 2018 #37 Share Posted February 11, 2018 Apparently there was a glassing onboard. The vision on the news of the security boat/zodiac escorting her in is quite something. I had to google the term ‘glassing’... also saw it in the article and had no idea. The stuff you learn on cruise critic! Sent from my iPad using Forums

They do not offer drink packages on the short cruises but there will always be an element pushing the limits. As for whether these things happen abroad, yes they do, in the US, Europe and the Caribbean..

Brisbane41 Posted February 11, 2018 #41 Share Posted February 11, 2018 I always enjoy cruising because when I started 16 years ago you could escape all the anti-social reprobates like this. It was always friendly and sociable. It is just sad that it has become so affordable now that the business is attracting these types of losers who should not be allowed access to alcohol and licenced premises. That is also why I try to sail with the more expensive and premium lines opposed to lines that come out as "party ships".

Australia is one of very few regions that offers cruises longer than 6/7 nights, the US in particular the bulk of cruises are 3 or 4 nights with 7 nights your "long" cruises. In America they are actually booze cruises as well and all the 3 night cruises to the Bahamas come with drinks included in your fare! I think the real problem is that bartenders have sales targets and incentives for selling drinks yet they are the same people expected to be enforcing responsible service. Makes turning a blind eye to meet a KPI seem worth it.

The situation called for a stronger force at the initial confrontation. BTW, it seems it was the one female that was charged for her behaviour (due to provocation) so perhaps it was she who should have been dragged away at first instance. NSWP Posted February 12, 2018 #47 Share Posted February 12, 2018 9 News have reported it was an onboard glassing attack! What is a glassing attack? Thanks. When someone takes a glass and smashes it into the head area, face or neck of another person. Sometimes the assailant breaks the top of the glass first so the jagged edges do more damage. I have seen a couple of end results in Sydney in my working life, not a pretty sight. Not an uncommon occurrence in bars, nightclubs etc in Australia and in UK. Another term is 'Glass them.':(:o
chesterbear Posted February 12, 2018 #48 Share Posted February 12, 2018 I watched a story on this on the lunchtime news. They had reporters attempt to get comment from a couple of the males and honestly they sounded like losers. If they want to drink themselves silly a cruise of any length could be a booze cruise not just the short ones. It’s not putting me off booking a 4 day cruise next year as I figure I can avoid the continuously inebriated.
