Disappointing

I thought these awards were meaningless. Large ships and cruise lines with a lot of ships got all of the awards. And others have pointed out that the ballot boxes were filled with organized voting. I felt dirty reading the results. Next year I won't waste my time. Just plain stupid.

Did you actually read the small ship results? Oceania, Azamara, Seabourn, you know, line’s without lots of ships And for the third time, it’s not organized voting, it’s Cruise Critic reviews. Maybe less Princess passengers bother to write reviews.

As said, it’s a popularity contest. Keep in mind that CC has a business relationship with RCL. Not sure if that has anything to do with the voting but with far more integration of RCL on CC, it’s bound to have an effect.

I don’tsee how that could be the case if they are based on actual reviews by cruisers here on Cruise Critic. Are you saying that Cruise Critic is reporting distorted results by actual cruisers because they have a business relationship with RCL?

I don’t know the exact nature or how extensive it is but CC supports RCL and has special “Meet & Mingle” sign-up sections for all RCCL and Celebrity cruises that aren’t available for other cruise lines. At the very least, CC organizes roll call get-togethers for every RCCL and Celebrity cruise.

CC only provides a link for people to register for an onboard get together. They do not organize anything. The cruise line hosts the party, and only if a minimum of 25 register.

Ooops. I didn't even see a section of small ship awards. I don't know how I missed it. Thanks for pointing it out.

I've been underwhelmed by Celebrity's get-togethers, compared to those arranged by pax on Princess. We were on the X Eclipse in Sept 2014 and there were only a few at the party.

Why wake up? The ships continue to sail full even after all the cutbacks.

All lines use revenue management systems. Full ships dont mean satisfaction or profitability, it means product delivered meets price point. That is how much does ship have to lower price to fill ship as empty cabins make no money, but selling cabin for a dollar to fill cabin makes a dollar more than an empty cabin, but still sold at a loss.

We were disappointed to see that Princess was virtually non-existent in the CC 2018 Cruisers' Choice Awards. The Big X ships took a slew of rewards. Maybe a wake-up call for Corporate?

I do not see why anyone would put the big x ships over Princess... I have been on most of them... service and quality of food and entertainment does not compare to what I get on Princess.

Every get together is different, depending on the sailing. We’ve been to some with upwards of 100 in attendance, usually trans Atlantic, and somewherethere were just a handful, like a 7 or 10 night Caribbean. Some last10 or 15minutes, and some much longer with snacks and refreshment provided by the cruiseline. My point was that Cruise Critic does nothing to organize them but to provide a link to register for a party.

These awards are meaningless. There's as many people complaining about random things across all of the other cruise lines' boards.

Bottom line is that each cruise line has its positives and its negatives, and you just have to pick one that best fits your character. We're a young, mid-twenties couple and do not like the loud and rowdy crowds you see on other lines; the more laid-back and classic feel of Princess is perfect for us, and that's why we like it.

My 2cents, we are Elite with Princess I must say our last three cruises have been disappointing especially the food, the only reason we stick with Princess is the perks my wife loves the free laundry. We are taking Viking sea in December but we will get all the perks as we’re in a Suite, I don’t gamble anymore so the no casino is nice and no kids under 18 works for me!

I agree, there's nothing scientific at all about these polls. They are bought and paid for to get the advertising benefit to get passengers. Word of mouth is the best poll.

It's all smoke and mirrors as far as I am concerned.

Once again, the results are based upon READER REVIEWS SUBMITTED TO CRUISE CRITIC IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS. How is that bought and paid for?

As in any "election", it's who and how many vote. In the latest issue of Conde Nast, it has the Readers Choice for 2017. For large ships, Princess was "Voted" as # 3. 1-Disney, 2-Cunard, 3-Princess, 4-MSC, 5-HAL, 6-Celebrity, 7-RCI, 8-P&O, 9-Costa, 10-NCL.
