Difference between "no sugar added" and "Fit Fare?"

Recommended Posts

"Fit" doesn't mean no sugar...it simply means it's within "healthy" ranges of nutrition.

Even "no sugar added" doesn't mean it's healthy, you know.

If you've been diabetic for a while, you surely have spoken with a nutritionist or dietary specialist...they will tell you what (and how much) of any given food you can have to keep your blood sugar steady. Steady is the main thing....it's the "ups and downs" that wreck your organs.

and no sugar added does not mean no sugar....many foods contain sugar naturally so you really need to know the carb count for each dish. The staff has always been very good about having that information ready for me. I am type 2 with 18 years on the clock and no real problems so far.

Fit Fare may also mean low fat. In light of your medical condition I'd advise getting your doctor's recommendations and asking on board for the specific information you need. I'd also recommend consulting X's special needs department prior to cruising so you can then share the information with your medical professionals. Good luck and safe and happy travels.

Thanks, everyone :D I appreciate all your comments. Type 1 diabetes has been my best teacher for 36 years now. I live a ketogenic lifestyle--high, healthy fat, moderate protein, low carb, massive veggies :P-- so Fit Fare probably won't work for me, but I will check with someone who can show ingredients ;) As far as "healthy" no sugar added desserts? Well, I could bring my own (I use stevia, a little coconut sugar, and applesauce from my organic orchard) and use paleo gluten free flours) but I'm probably gonna close my eyes and eat some artificial "stuff" while I'm cruising :halo:

Thinking about it, it sure would be cool to bring my own pasture raised cream for my coffee. Can I do that?

No sugar added does not mean carb free...

It also doesn’t mean sugar free. Fruits and vegetables are naturally full of sugar.

Blu also doesn’t really mean that the food is healthier. It is a clean cuisine, meaning that they will use olive oil and other so called cleaner substitutions to keep it “clean”. Supposedly they also don’t serve as many entrees with heavy sauces, or gravy. Sorry no biscuits and gravy for breakfast but they do serve corned beef hash, pancakes with syrup, eggs Benedict with the sauce, sausage patties and etc, and the same pastries that are served in the MDR and buffet.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

Queen, a little cheat secret, the regular apple pie dessert on Celebrity is pretty good and fairly low in sugar/carbs. It is my go to on cruises and I see little effect on my daily numbers with it. The portions are small and have them leave the ice cream off... I always ask about the fake sugars they use because the sugar alcohol products and I don't get along too well.

One thing, which I have found to be of enormous help with my dietary needs/preferences is speak to the hotel manager or chef.

I usually go to the no-charge tour of the galley, I arrive a bit late so I Am one of the last groups and the HD and C are still answering questions... they have been wonderful in making sure that my desires are met... on Millie, the pastry chef Wendel was so wonderful in preparing a different dessert each night and day, I was totally out done and spoiled! No matter the dining venue I was in, there was a dessert there for me, even in Cafe Albacio he had some pastries there...

Most of the Chef's and HD's will do what they can to accommodate..

Not sure how well the milk/cream will travel for your sailing, but do not think it would be taken if it was properly packed...

Have fun and bon voyage
