WashyWashyHappyHappy95 Posted March 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2018 Tons of threads on this subject. Do a search for them and you'll get lots of info. (short answer is Gem unless you have kids that go gaga over waterslides and other activities)

NYcruzzer Posted March 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2018 Been on all 3 multiple times. Unless you have kids looking for all the "bells and whistles" of the larger ships I would definitely choose the Gem. Larger passenger to public space ratio. Love Spinnakers. aeroo777 Posted March 5, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 5, 2018 Anthem by a mile. Have you sailed any of these ships?
Rare amygutman Posted March 5, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2018 Been on all three: Anthem - was on 2nd NYC sailing. Too many people, inexperienced staff. Great lounge in aft of ship, but food / shows were meh. "Crowded" was the operative word Breakaway - also large, but we had the benefit of being in the Haven so different experience. Shows - awesome. Food - awesome. Ship - crowded and no large area for social events which is odd. Gem - favorite ship by far. Great open areas, spinnaker lounge is the bomb for sunrises and sunsets, fantastic staff, so, so friendly! restaurants were wonderful, shows fantastic, and you rarely waited for anything. Fewer bells and whistles - but certainly enough to any child of any age happy. Can't wait to go back for next Thanksgiving. Amy
Rare Turtles06 Posted March 6, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 6, 2018 OP: you are talking about very different ships (especially Gem v. Anthem). You'd need to provide more information (e.g., are kids traveling with you, what's important or not important to you about a ship, etc.) in order for anyone to be able to give you relevant advice. Rare BirdTravels Posted March 6, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 6, 2018 pros and cons please (April 2018) Anthem if it’s mom and dad only. Breakaway if you have kids. Avoid the Gem.
mjkacmom Posted March 6, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 6, 2018 Anthem if it’s mom and dad only. Breakaway if you have kids. Avoid the Gem. Why? I love the Gem.
sullyd Posted March 6, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted March 6, 2018 Just the wife and I traveling , been on the Gem in 2008 . We liked it ! Never been on a mega ship. We love the dawn .
salzdt Posted March 6, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 6, 2018 I loved the Gem. Sailed her twice, and would sail her again. We are going on the Dawn out of Boston in June because we wanted to go to Bermuda. Did not want to go on big ship, like the Escape. Hope the Gem comes back to the East coast. (short answer is Gem unless you have kids that go gaga over waterslides and other activities) I'm well into my 60's and I opt for the ships with the awesome water slides. It isn't always kids climbing up those steps!

Kkate Posted March 10, 2018 #19 Share Posted March 10, 2018 Haven't been on Anthem but have been on Gem and Breakaway. Preferred Gem by far but then we are older and don't need slides etc. Was on the Gem last month and the service was excellent!
