voljeep Posted April 9, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2018 we used the Princess transfer from the Captain Cook hotel in 2007;p
WatchHill Posted April 9, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2018 I've done this twice. First time on a bus. However, the second time, I booked the AK RR on my own, and thought it was the best way to travel to meet the ship. People who booked through Princess were on same train, only I didn't spend as much to get there! Darcy

ColoradoMom!! Posted April 9, 2018 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2018 We were going to do the bus - which leaves the Egan center in Anchorage around noon. Instead, we switched to the train. The train leaves at 9:45 am - check in at 8:45. Cost is $86 per person, and you arrive in Whittier at 12:05 pm Rumor is you can leave your PRINCESS tagged luggage with the porters at the train, and it will be transferred to the ship for you. https://www.alaskarailroad.com We heard about the glacier tours offered in Whittier and chose the train so we could do one of these tours before boarding. The 26 Glacier tour is the one we chose - and their timing is designed for those taking this exact train. https://www.phillipscruises.com/prince-william-sound/
Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted April 10, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 10, 2018 Train, definitely! It’s beautiful and comfortable. You can easily book the train independently; it arrives into Whittier about 12:15, and its arrival signals the beginning of embarkation. jsglow Posted April 10, 2018 #9 Share Posted April 10, 2018 This is who we're using. Late arrival the night before has us opting for the afternoon transport tour. https://alaskacruisetransfer.com/tours/anchorage-whittier-wildlife/
7uvus Posted April 10, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 10, 2018 We've done the Princess Bus transfer, our own van transport, and the train. The train for us is what we love and will be doing it once again in May. It depends on what you want to accomplish and how early/late you want to board. We love the relaxed slow scenic train ride, plus getting us on the ship earlier than the majority of people. We do like walking around Whittier, so our embark day is truly relaxing and beautiful! I was going to respond with same message but you did for me. We are doing same thing in July. And was doing some research on where to pick up some pop in Whittier which doesn't look like any great options. Someone posted you can leave a carry on bag in the 26 Glaciers office while you take the tour if you want. Getting pop in Anchorage, putting in a rolley bag and either checking it with porters from train or keeping in Glacier office and carrying it on the ship.
