briehon Posted May 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2018 So I’m just off the Valor today. On our only port day, a man played one of those crazy no one wins machines in the casino where you line up the object and have to get it in the hole to get the cash to drop. Around 11:45am, on his third dollar, this guy wins!! $5000!!! Since this was a machine right next to the smoking section of the bar, there were plenty of people around who witnessed it. Bells, whistles, lights, sirens!! But no cash dropped. The display screen on the machine read “malfunction”. Ok no worries. Since the casino was officially closed, there Was no casino manager around. The bartender called a manager who took 3 hours to show. Of course this guy waited. And when the manager finally came, no go. He said too bad. Not getting your money. Machine malfunction. Needless to say several other managers were called as was security. Hours go by. No money for the win, no viewing of the security camera which was just a few feet from the game...not even a refund for the $3 he played. People around the ship were mortified. The player and others the knew about the situation would have been satisfied with SOMETHING. Anything. Free steakhouse dinner??!! Comped room??! Instead a whole lot of passengers left feeling Carnival cheated and scammed their passengers. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare Cruisegirl6 Posted May 28, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 28, 2018 Casino was closed, there wasen't a legal win, unfortunately, bummer for sure!
briehon Posted May 28, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted May 28, 2018 Those games are open even during casino closed hours. Closed games won’t even take your money like the slots. They aren’t considered casino games but games of skill. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare sparks1093 Posted May 28, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 28, 2018 Even in a land based casino a machine malfunction invalidates any win.

cajunfla Posted May 28, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 28, 2018 Do you really expect Carnival to do something about a post on cruise critic? Why not pose your concerns directly to carnival, and not the "experts" here?
Living4acruise2day Posted May 28, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 28, 2018 This is a stranger to you? I'm sure he is a big boy and can handle the problem himself.
Harrier1961 Posted May 28, 2018 #8 Share Posted May 28, 2018 Why do they need to make this “right?” All casinos have on machines “malfunctions voids all pays and plays.” Second, do you think any cruise line really cares or pays attention to posts here? Third, why do you care? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Joebucks Posted May 28, 2018 #9 Share Posted May 28, 2018 As someone who generally isn't going to fight companies on their policies, I don't like the "malfunctions void payouts". There's little incentive to provide working machines then. I guess looking at it from the other end, you would often have people claiming a malfunction, and expecting a payout. Blackjack22 Posted May 28, 2018 #10 Share Posted May 28, 2018 I'm sad to hear this. The Magic casino had a malfunction that cost me $50 on my sail and sign account. I brought it up with mgmt and they wouldn't do anything about it. I assume they thought I was trying to run a scam or something. I am still pretty angry about it and not sure I'm going to be booking with CCL for awhile. The old management would have looked at my play and seen that $50 was not enough for me to ever try to pull a fast one but these people seem pretty short sighted. May be time to switch which lines get my play.
LuckyZ Posted May 28, 2018 #11 Share Posted May 28, 2018 Between the smoking and the fixed games, I don’t play in the casino But the rest of you suckers keep on making Carnival rich. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
maxydu Posted May 28, 2018 #12 Share Posted May 28, 2018 The OP posted the issue here because that is what this site is for; to express your opinion about things that occur or happen or are about a cruise incident. The OP didn't expect any of you genius's to solve the issue but merely make you aware. People post all the time who are "strangers" to others here. The OP stated it was their opinion that Carnival should make it right. Others said that malfunctions void the pay out. Apparently that is correct but why be so harsh on the OP? Geez; lighten up......WE all have opinions and write about them on this site.
gopackgo21 Posted May 28, 2018 #13 Share Posted May 28, 2018 Mt husband played a $5 slot on the Breeze that started max getting on it's own. It was taking $25 a hand and he was trying to hit cash out for it to stop and it wouldn't. I ran and got the manager and he witnessed it himself and gave my husband his money back plus $50 in free play. I felt that was awesome as most casinos would say "sorry ". Rare Saint Greg Posted May 28, 2018 #20 Share Posted May 28, 2018 I agree that playing slots is stupid. But the only thing more stupid is thinking they are "fixed" They kind of are. They’re set to payout a small percentage of what they take in. They pay but the casino always wins.
ParrotRob Posted May 28, 2018 #21 Share Posted May 28, 2018 They kind of are. They’re set to payout a small percentage of what they take in. They pay but the casino always wins. Actually, they're set to pay out a large percentage of what they take in. But they're still governed by the RNG, not any kind of "fix".
Drazil65 Posted May 28, 2018 #22 Share Posted May 28, 2018 (edited) Not a CCL thing, it is a casino thing (land or otherwise, doesn't matter) and very customary to see it posted on the machines, just got to read the postings on the machines. I dont know cruises in particular but Vegas has most slots giving back 95% , but that is still a lot of money to the casino. Im guessing that cruises are probably in the neighborhood of 90%. they payoff 90 cents of every dollar (on average of course)

April42749 Posted May 28, 2018 #25 Share Posted May 28, 2018 DH plays that game, a lot. I've never seen it malfunction and I've never seen anyone win anything. Amazingly....the money doesn't drop and it says "malfunction". Yes, OP, Carnival should have made this right, right then and there. You just saved me some money, as when DH hears this he won't be playing anymore.
