Status of Ocean Medallion?

Has anyone heard status of ***** on the Regal. It was to start in July with some phase in. CC groups are small for the last few sailings.

***** has not been worked on at all on the Regal since it went to Europe in early Spring. Workers left in NA to work on Caribbean Princess. Recall ***** has nothing to do with new internet. If the installation on Caribbean Princess is only partial I certainly wouldn’t expect it to work on Regal in the foreseeable future

Speaking to a Princess manager on the Ruby in June, I was told ***** was going to be on the Regal in phases this summer. Manager was quoting info given to him by the ***** team 2 days before. Not talking about internet, ***** only.

I was on the Regal in January, we were in the Pilot group for the *****. It wasn't ready for prime time by any means.

We were week 3 I think, so they realized that the medallions were falling out of the wrist bands, they gave us a plastic holder for our card and our *****. We were able to open our stateroom door and the kiosks were pretty cool. We didn't order drinks and the bars didn't have that tap & go feature yet. I miss the little mailboxes.

I did like the princess at sea app (free) I didn't have to tote a patters around and was reminded of shows or events. pretty cool. I did like the internet, it was fast, we "facetimed"our grandkids every day. I talked to some folks who wanted to rid themselves of electronics, but I do need to check in with work a time or two per day, so it worked out for me.

I'm also an IT guy, so I realize these things can have some bumps & bruises along the way. I praise Princess for trying. Not a success by any measure, except that they are trying.

It's an iterative process for sure. I can see the bartenders loving it. The casino was awesome, tap your card or ***** to the machine and hit cash out and it threw it back on your card immediately. Once the kinks are worked out it'll be a slick thing to have.

Where was your cabin? Aft, forward?

I just got off of Caribbean Princess and during our cruise ***** was installed on our doors and at some slot machines.

One of the main points the manager I spoke to mentioned from the briefing, how the medallion was used by cruisers, forced the engineering team to go back and rethink some of the human factors. Also extensive testing on the range of the medallion was also done. The "monkey" test will more than likely uncover a few more problems.

Still have fingers crossed for our New Year's voyage on the Regal Princess. If it is up and running, that would be great. Regardless, we will enjoy the B2B west and east Caribbean again for the umpteenth time.

Absolutely. Piloting the program, then taking the feedback to the developers to tweak (or rethink an approach) is one of the stages.

After a couple of iterations through the piloting process they'll have a workable program. I think they may have been a bit over ambitious to start, but are scaling things back a little. Again, I praise Princess for trying.

The next step will be for them organization change management (OCM), which is, in essence, the practice behind getting us to accept and use the product. Change is usually met with some degree of fear, contempt, or anxiety, quelling those fears (etc.) is what Princess needs to do a better job of.

If > 35 years of IT experience has taught me anything, it is that IT typically does a poor job of marketing and gaining acceptance prior to rolling out an application or process.

In fact, I was a bit shocked to see that, as a pilot user in January, I was never contacted to gain an understanding of how I felt about the product (*****), this is really valuable information that they are missing out on. They can then use that information to get back to development and make the product implementation more successful.

So Princess, if you are listening, ask for feedback on *****, assuming we will like it or how we use it may offer some great data for you to make it better.

I don’t mean at all to deny your message but this and other Forums has everyone from the Captain to room stewards to installation experts from almost every ship in the fleet make predictions and “for sure” about the ***** on the Regal. I have been on it 3x in past nine months and no work done on ***** as the Captain of theRegal indicated on the TA in March or April. He said there was no ***** team aboard and work on it would not resume until September after all team members finished work on Caribbean Princess and theRegal returned to US. Yes we are talking only about *****. Since The Regal is still in Europe I would take this rumor with a grain of salt

Wisdom.

But temper it with the fact that *IF* the currently rumored fix is software, it doesn't take an *****

crew pulling cable and replacing door handles, no?

Correct. What I heard was software only to correct the human interface problems they ran into. Again, we are not hearing from any cruisers who have been on the regal in late July and the number of CC members on the Regal roll call is small. Hopefully someone sailing on the Regal can get back to us with definitive info. On the Princess site, from what I could gather this AM, still indicated only the Regal.

But there would be a lot of hardware to install (eg the door screens on more than a thousand rooms). Surely someone will mention a fully functioning ***** ship by this last day of July and all we have to do is wait 4 or 5 days to see if the “rumor” of a fully functional ***** ship, the

Caribbean Princess, by August 4 will be announced in headlines....we would then have two fully functional ***** ships: Regal and Caribbean. If not then what? Perhaps start another ship.

Likewise thanks but be sure to separate the Internet question from the ***** question. Great confusion has been caused elsewhere by posters conflating the two separate items. Thanks again. I trust someone with do the same with the Caribbean Princess on August 4

From another thread off the Regal in June. Only Medallion question was asked and here is the answer.

For my sailing, only passengers from muster station B received the medallion that substitutes for the cruise card used on board. Theses passengers were notified by email in advance and the medallions were mailed to their home address.

The (paid )internet speed worked fine and I have no complaints.i only know that for elite passengers, they have access to free internet the whole trip on one device. I believe the others all have to pay.

The same muster station as available all three times I have seen all year when I was aboard The Regal. I became some suspicious when someone reported they were doing it by “floors”

Oh good, a cleaned up thread. I am going to wait to read on the blog for the August 4th cruise to see if it's true that the Ocean Medallions will be rolled out on the Caribbean Princess.

An upsetting event today when we checked our December 30th voyage on the Regal and the description went from Ocean Medallion Vacation to Ocean Medallion Preview! A quick conversation with Customer Service was not of any help, other than no compensation and since final payment isn't due yet, you can always cancel!

We have a cruise scheduled on the Regal Princess for Nov. 25th we are on the Marina deck which is part of the ***** group. When we booked it was an ocean medallion cruise now on the Princess website it states it is a ocean medallion preview cruise. Hopefully this cruise goes smooth for us with no issues with the ocean medallion.

It is amazing that 1-year after the promised delivery date, your cruise is still only a 'preview'.

Also, you need to check by muster station, rather than deck to tell if you are part of the ***** group.

This was an early post on the included cabins, and there have probably been later:
