Status of Ocean Medallion?

Perhaps it would have been less of a mickey-mouse operation at princess, if they had hired some folks from Royal Caribbean.

Your close. They hired someone from Disney World to give “that personal experience” according to an interview I saw with Ms Swartz

As I understand it this was all done by Carnival Corporate and Princess felt lucky to be picked to be the first of the fleet. There is about a half hour interview with her and him in these threads somewhere that I watched several months ago...probably taken down.

In answer to question in post 349 on the Regal this summer all slot and poker machines had been replaced with the Medallion pad. You simply touched your cruise card to it and the screen came up asking if you wanted to charge to room or your bank....at end of play you pushed the cash out button and the funds went to your card in the billfold in your pocket. At first everyone of course was trying to find the slot for your cruise card (none existed) and the first few times it was a bit disconcerting to simply push the button and walk away without bothering to take the card out of your pocket. I kept reaching for my card and would then realize no need even after a couple of weeks

Here's the money quote from Vickie and Bernie currently about Caribbean Princess.

This sailing is the start of Ocean Medallion [on the Caribbean]; however it is not rolled

out to the passengers yet. We have been told it [is] currently being tested by head

office crew that are on board.

http://vickieandbernietravel.blogspot.com/

Call it "late alpha testing". Good work if you can get it. ;)

Don't go over to the RCCL board and ask them what they think of RCCL's IT department. RCCL just "upgraded" their website and the functionality actually reduced, and periodically over the last couple of years their have been outages.

Full disclosure. The last few years I have sailed RCCL but before that I did a few years of Princess. I actually like Princess a bit more. However Princess nowadays doesn't normally offer cruises out of Florida during the timeframe that we normally cruise. Also there have been familiy preferences along with price point/intinery for cruise in other parts of the world.

Perhaps it would have been less of a mickey-mouse operation at princess, if they had hired some folks from Royal Caribbean.

if i leave the medallion on the floor and then randomly jump off the ship into the ocean? Then what?? Their system still thinks i am onboard when i am not. They still have to follow the old fashion procedures of search and rescue

When you are pregnant, they are very tall tale signs that make it obvious you are indeed pregnant and there is no hiding that fact. due to that, i can understand the rules and precautions related to that.

This thread is getting pretty old, need to stop kicking that old dead horse around. Only time will tell what will really happen to the *****, this thread is the biggest rumor mill of all rumor mills.

Agreed! Enough!

The card is "near field" and won't help a bit, it's the Medallion that might save your life.

Actually, your passage contract says you can be involuntarily debarked if you are issued

a Medallion and refuse to keep it in your immediate possession.

There is a "safety only" option in your ***** profile that will disable showing your name and

face to all and sundry as you walk by.

That’s a risk I’ll take until I’m asked to wear it/keep it in my possession or be disembarked. As long as the option to receive an RFID ship card upon request is provided, I’ll opt to use that instead just as I opt to use my hard-ticket RFID Annual Pass at Walt Disney World instead of a MagicBand.

I doubt Princess would make such a request as you are suggesting...

Here's an up-to-date report from a blogger on the Caribbean Princess right now: http://vickieandbernietravel.blogspot.com/

She says the Medallion is in test mode for the next 3 cruises. Some functionality, but not all.

Not the same test mode as Regal however. They are registering all passengers by taking their photos on Ipads alongside the traditional method but no passenger has a Medallion yet - they are testing these with some head office crew only.

Is something compelling you to open the thread?

Or do you do so just to complain about it?

Does that somehow make the situation better?

Simply pass it by, and you never have to have empathy for the dead horse.

I agree. I find this thread informative. Seeing that I go on my cruise within 2 weeks, it's very relevant to whether ***** will be on my cruise or not. If you don't like it, don't read it.

IMO, I don't base my cruises on new technology that has obviously failed and to cuss and discuss it like someone on here will solve the problem is ridiculous. We were on the Regal in April (TA) and now we'll be back on her for the return TA in Sept. and could careless about this feature that was so publicized as the greatest thing to come along for cruising. That's it plain and simple so bye bye won't be back on this thread. We base our cruises on Itineraries not technology.

We talked to some of the Ocean Medallion folks on our cruise in June. They said that they were going to have a very measured rollout on CB, making sure each function works before adding another. They did say that they don't expect full implementation until later this year.

I saw someone trying to sell about 7 of those bundgy cords for your cruise card in the casino. No wonder why! LOL

I am on board the Regal Princess and have been since Monday. The Internet works great. That is however, with minor exceptions. The Wi-Fi does drop off occasionally. When it works, it works great. It works 99% of the time. The messaging system for iMessages, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp and one other works fine.

I am on board the Regal Princess and we are in an Ocean Medallion cabin.

Ocean Medallion works relatively fine. It opens the door most of the time but not 100% of the time. My husband had to have his medallion replaced and it gave us trouble the first time after that. The normal cruise card works every time. Sometimes when trying to open the door, I have to wiggle the handle a few times before it clicks into place. A picture of the door handle moving appears on the screen when it is ready to work.

This was an extremely fast check in. We were on the ship before noon. When we arrived at the porch around 11:40, we were advised that we could go to the medallion pick up line or the priority line since we are platinum. We were standing right next to the medallion pick up line so we chose that. It was very fast and efficient.

I was handed a lanyard along with my cruise card in a plastic pouch and my medallion in a plastic case. Both of those were hooked onto the lanyard.

We were invited to a meeting the first afternoon to discuss the Ocean Medallion. I don’t believe I personally learned anything new there.

There is a desk on deck six that is dedicated to fixing issues with this and selling accessories. We brought my husband’s Medallion to them and they seemed to be quite efficient and brought him his new one today. We will check it again in the morning to see if it works.

Thanks for the update. Give us any updates when are off and have a great cruise.

Glad to hear Princess has ***** on part of the Regal. With all the posting of no way it is the Regal, it will be the Caribbean next, I was second guessing what I had heard.

I just wish my up coming cruise on the Coral was *****.
