We will be on the Regal in Feb in cabin M201 and wondering if we will be in the ***** group. I knw from sailing on her this past feb that they had the ***** in some of the forward cabins and thought we just might have them form for next year. Would appreciate it if some one on there now or lately could answer.

Thanks in advance

There's a list upthread (I think) of the Regal's pilot ***** staterooms. No additional staterooms

have been added since "day 1", though that may change if/when Caribbean's current alpha-test

works. ...and *if* the fix is software, *might* occur before Regal's return T/A in September.

Unless they have added more staterooms to the 110 that were the original Medallion ones, your room, M201, while very close to being one of them is not a Medallion room. M203 is the closest stateroom on the Marina deck that is a Medallion one.

I am on board the Regal Princess and have been since Monday. The Internet works great. That is however, with minor exceptions. The Wi-Fi does drop off occasionally. When it works, it works great. It works 99% of the time. The messaging system for iMessages, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp and one other works fine.

Mistake, the free messaging does not work if you don’t have Internet. I checked with the Internet cafe and was told it was a trial feature. Very disappointing. Sorry for the wrong info above.

To be clearer, messaging works for those with Internet service. Not for those without.

Is that Facebook Messenger or the Princess at Sea Messenger?

Princess at Sea messenger worked just fine on the Caribbean Princess a few weeks ago. No internet required. You did have to log on to the intranet and create an account (same process as you would if wanting to look at your cabin charges).

The one I am talking about here is the trial they had run previously using Facebook Messenger iMessage, WhatsApp and another one I can’t remember. The one that we’ve always used before with Princess called Messenger ID, where you put the Messenger ID number for each person in and send them a message, still works. The problem with the Messenger ID one is that it does not send notifications to people the way the other messenger apps buzz or ring. With the old method, there’s constant checking to see if a message had come in. With the actual apps, it buzzes or rings.

I have been told that the information about these new apps open to everybody on this ship is still on the website. I have not checked.

I just spoke to an employee at the Ocean Front location on Regal Princess. Ocean Front is where you go with any problems about Ocean Medallion or if you wish to purchase accessories. He told me that the Caribbean Princess will be running full steam on Ocean Medallion at the end of August. He also told me that the Regal Princess will be running full steam at the end of November. Don’t hold me to this.

Princess is definitely having technical problems with the network infrastructure. They are using a different satellite service for the internet connection that may not be all that robust. It sounds like while not implemented on any other ship, they are working on the infrastructure on certain other ships who recently came out of drydock. It is a good effort to upgrade to a more recent technology but the roll out has had many problems and was over hyped. Having worked in IT I have seen this played out so many times before when sales/management pushes the techies to the back of the bus and refuses to listen to their concerns. It always ends up a marketing disaster.

Apples and oranges here. ***** does not require _Internet_ to function. It's a local function, contained solely within the ship. If the network switching topology has a single aggregation switch, then there's a single point of failure that's also common with Internet service, but I'd suspect that's an important-enough role given all of the automation that's being integrated that there's a redundant pair.

M210 is an Ocean Medallion cabin. I just looked and took a photo.

The person was asking about M201 not M210. Also, M210 is not a medallion stateroom. M209 and M211 are but M210 is not unless they have added additional staterooms after the 110 original ones.

Thank you for noticing that. It is M201 that is in *****. I have a picture but I don’t have an account here so I cannot post it here.

"running full steam" - meaning everything, and I mean everything, that they 'pmpd' up in the intro at the conference will be up and running - here and now, there and then, real time gambling on your personal device, order googles for the pool while sitting by the pool.....

yeah, let's hope the medallions open the door, work in the shops, work in the casino, and at the bar...get all that working seamlessly for ALL cabins - not just the pilots..

As I said earlier, M201 is not a medallion stateroom unless additional staterooms have been added to the original 110 Medallion rooms. I somehow deleted part of my original message, however and provided bad info on the rest of the Marina deck Medallion staterooms. The correct Marina deck Medallion staterooms are, or at least originally were M203, 206-212, 214-239, 241, & 243. 36 in total. There were another 36 on the Lido deck, 36 on the Baja deck and 2 on the Caribe deck for a total of 110.

I'm on the 9/8 sailing and curious what this means as well.

Interesting, I will be on Regal first two weeks of December. We shall see.

We will be on the CB later this year and it will be fun to see if ***** is working and how well it is working. Once they figure out all the problems with installing it on a metal ship with metal walls, doors etc it will be great. You must crawl before you can walk.

Ok, so I will put my hands up right now to say that I haven't been following any discussions re the Ocean Medallion and if truth be told I'm not even sure what it is supposed to do (replace the sea card?).

But we will be sailing on the Regal Princess over Christmas, we don't have a cabin allocated yet (will be an inside cabin unless the upgrade fairy is kind to us!) so how will we know if we have the ***** and is it given to you at check-in?

We have one of the current ***** cabins on the Regal, later this year.

It would be nice if ***** was actually fully up and running. Might be kind of cool.

Just have to figure out how to use all of it, the apps, etc. OMG!!!

Anyhow, this seems to be more chatter that indicates that they might have figured out one of the big 'glitches', and could get this thing running.

If we have WIFI, which I am hoping we will, due to our Captain's Circle, we should be able to text back home, directly, without having to use one of those messenger services, right. We don't use any of those services. So, that would be nice.
