MyTime Dining Concerns-Oasis

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit confused about how MyTime dining works. I've watched a couple of videos and it seems if you don't have assigned dining and choose MyTime you have a very, very long wait (one video was over an hour wait to even be seated.

If we choose our MyTime dinnertimes (I did on Royal Carib. online cruise planner) is that not like having an actual reservation time?

I understand with the huge volume of people we would have some longer waits than usual with a reservation but does having a MyTime actual dinner time really make any difference at all?

If there is a huge line when we head to the dining room how does MyTime even work? Is there a Maitre D that handles MyTime? I will feel very strange and pushy walking up to the front of the line to even ask questions LOL! Trying to find out particulars ahead of time.

Lastly, I understand all the main dining rooms honor MyTime, right? There is not one single place we are supposed to go to?

I have scheduled (3) upfee restaurants just so we will hopefully have actual dinner times and be able to catch shows.

I love this forum! I've learned so much about our upcoming Oasis cruise.

There is usually a line for those with reservations and a line for those without. The reservation line is supposed to go faster, but sometimes it does not work that way. Factors that affect wait time are size of your party, demographic, time when you show up, etc.

Bob, what do you think about this?

Our party is 8 and we have the same 6pm My Time ressie throughout the cruise except for the one night we are all at 150 Central Park. Do you think this helps at all? That we are expected every evening at same time? This is our first Oasis trip. We never had issues before doing this but that was Explorer.

TIA

No resi you can have a wait. No way to tell how long as your cruise has not happened. After the first night things start to get much better.

They have a place to check in at the entrance. You can always use the windjammer the first night. You can eat somewhere different each night and never go to the mdr.

The reservation should help, and I would not have a large party like that without reservations. I think the earliest you can have a reservation is 5:30pm, so there's no way someone should be able at your table before you.

If a large party ( and 8 IS a "large" party) has reservations, they will have a table available for you at or around your reserved time. ALL large parties need reservations in MTD. It's like ANY restaurant...larger parties are MUCH harder to seat than parties of 4 or less.

You may want to do "traditional" seating...you can "link" all your bookings, to be assured you'll be seated together...and the table is waiting for YOU....not you waiting on your table!

My time dining is at the American Icon dining room only

I would recommend switching to early dining if you want to eliminate the risk of having to wait. We tried MTD with a group of 4 and had to wait longer than I could justify. The overall experience was lower than traditional dining each time we have tried it.

Thanks

While I am or a big fan of MTD, I find it works well if you have a reservation and don’t want to be seated with any one other than those in you party. On our last cruise on Allure we were a party of six and had reservations for different times each evening as the cruise was a last minute booking and dinner reservations were made after we boarded. Our show times were all over the place due to the late booking if the cruise, so our dinner times were all over the place as well. Somehow they managed to seat us at the same table with the same waitstaff every night. There was even one night when they thought we were eating in a specialty restaurant (it was the next night), so even though I had made a reservation, they didn’t have it. They still sat us at our “regular” table.

  • 3 weeks later...

Our experience on Oasis was that there was a line back to the elevators on both sides when the dining room opened at about 5:30. Left side was reservations, right was no reservations. About eight people doing checkin. Once host had the cabin number they printed out a form and had someone escort the party to the table. Reservation line moved very quickly, since they already had tables assigned.

An hour! is there any special place that us solos should be to get added in a tad quicker to a table fill? Which deck are the freestyles on for MDR?

No special place beyond the MTD desk. You may want to check your roll call for other solo cruisers who might want to share a table.

You can always switch to traditional MDR. Our last 2 cruise we were at a table for 8 late seating and both times there were 2 solo's at our table. Deck 3 for MTD deck 4 and 5 for MDR traditional.
