DramaQueen22 Posted August 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2018 I just booked my first solo on the Victory leaving September 10. It's WAY too long to wait for our Horizon cruise in 2019. Besides that, I need to see the sea!
Shaded Lady Posted August 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2018 Good for you! I wish it was cheaper for Carnival solos so I could cruise more often (can only convince DH to cruise about every 2 years or so).

I wish it was cheaper for Carnival solos so I could cruise more often (can only convince DH to cruise about every 2 years or so). I still paid the double occupancy rate, but it was a special and I had my VIFP and state discount this time. Worked out to $95 a day. Can't beat that for cabin, food, and everything else. Land vacations for the same period were going to cost me at least $300 more than that.
bury me at sea Posted August 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 5, 2018 I am green with envy. I have longed to do this but never see any "specials" for solo sailing.
Rare Roz Posted August 5, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2018 When I first started cruising, Carnival would often have the lowest category inside cabins (1A? 4A?) priced at 150% for solos. I don't sail Carnival as much since they quit doing that. Roz

dcwalker Posted August 6, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 6, 2018 I'm going on my first solo on Sept 8! Can't wait. Funny thing, it seems my husband can't wait either! Hmmm . . .

DramaQueen22 Posted August 6, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Enjoy it but from Horizon to Victory is a big step down. I am not sailing on the Horizon until September 2019, so I don't see how it's a step down. Any ship is a good ship!
Cruiser_1977 Posted August 6, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 6, 2018 SOLO is awesome! I love to bargain hunt, therefore I don't mind searching for a fare that I find fair. I like the way you do your math. I do the same thing (compare to a land based vaca).
susan1957 Posted August 6, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 6, 2018 HOW DID you manage to get it for $95.00/ day....from a double occupancy rate????
JohnSpo Posted August 6, 2018 #14 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Good to see you scored a good rate. Enjoy your solo cruise.
BNBR Posted August 6, 2018 #15 Share Posted August 6, 2018 I'm considering my first solo! Not sure if I'll like it, but everyone who does solo cruising seems to swear by it.
DramaQueen22 Posted August 6, 2018 Author #16 Share Posted August 6, 2018 HOW DID you manage to get it for $95.00/ day....from a double occupancy rate???? Yep...double occupancy rate. I found it on the "today's deals" section of Carnival's website. It's after final payment date for that cruise, so they dropped fares I guess. I paid $360 for a 4 day. Even at the double occupancy rate, it's a steal in my opinion.

Besides that, I need to see the sea! Good for you. My last cruise was my first Solo, and the next three booked are Solo. It's a good time. I would rather sail with my other half, but he does not get anywhere near the PTO that I get, and I am not wasting those on staying at home. :')

Besides that, I need to see the sea! Hello there, i am recently widowed and i love to sail. The costs seem so high on carnival. Does carnival ever give a break? Are there groups where people are looking for a cruise partner? I really want to sail again. Thanks so much.
DramaQueen22 Posted August 6, 2018 Author #19 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Hello there, i am recently widowed and i love to sail. The costs seem so high on carnival. Does carnival ever give a break? Are there groups where people are looking for a cruise partner? I really want to sail again. Thanks so much. Carnival doesn't offer special prices for solos from what I can see. I only happened upon this one from checking the today's deals section on their website. Royal Caribbean and NCL have special solo cabins, but their prices don't seem cheaper than the double occupancy rate on most cabins. For me, the price I paid (even though it was the full double rate) was worthwhile when compared to land vacations for the same period of time. Even with airfare to the port, I come out ahead. There is a solo cruisers board here too...you might find other hints there. I guess you need to decide what a good deal is for you, then just go when it comes up! saunalick Posted August 6, 2018 #20 Share Posted August 6, 2018 I have 3 solo cruises booked for me. , 2 are with RCCL. The other is with Carnival. 2 of them, 6 nights each, at the time of booking were great deals. $110 a night for the first one, with an overnight in Cuba. 2nd one is about $119 a night. The 3rd one is going to be on the refurbished Carnival Triumph/Sunrise, averages about $180 a night. little more, but I'm looking forward to the smaller ships!! HappyValley3 Posted August 7, 2018 #23 Share Posted August 7, 2018 I am considering a solo cruise also. My only concern is safety being alone at the different ports. Example: Being in a taxi by myself in Cozumel going to Mr. Sanchos for the day. Any advice on this?

Example: Being in a taxi by myself in Cozumel going to Mr. Sanchos for the day. Any advice on this? You could ask on your roll call if anyone is also going there and share a cab ride. Carnival does a great job of putting solo pax at dinner tables with other solos, they often become your social network on the ship, so one of them might also want to join you. Example: Being in a taxi by myself in Cozumel going to Mr. Sanchos for the day. Any advice on this? I am taking my first solo in November on Victory. I am also going to Mr. Sancho's for the day. My plan is to post in my roll call or on the blue Book of the Face and see if anyone wants to share a cab. Doesn't mean I have to hang with them for the day, just the cab ride. If we want to head back to the ship at different times, I will just ask around until I find a share for the ride back to the ship.
