tallnthensome Posted August 19, 2018 #26 Share Posted August 19, 2018 Diamond or platinum level on Carnival is equal to wearing the paper crown as a kid at Burger King. It's more or less laughable and nobody cares.
AmBear Posted August 19, 2018 #27 Share Posted August 19, 2018 Almost all the RCCL ships now also have a Diamond lounge where Diamond and above get hors de oeuvres and unlimited free drinks for 3 1/2 hours each night. We usually got 2 drinks with the crowds in lounges back when we sailed RCL! We don't drink much, and it just wasn't worth it to us to get a free drink, as drinking alcohol isn't that important to us! We always got free drinks in both RCL, and Carnival's casino clubs, and we mostly order soda!:D

The benefits you get aren't laughable, most like getting them, and wish they got more! We enjoy early boarding, the tender benefit, dropping off our carry on at our cabin right after we board, and early leaving!
AmBear Posted August 19, 2018 #29 Share Posted August 19, 2018 and I believe they miss out on the $100 shareholder OBC, so the $250 discount is really a net $150. RCL has a shareholder program that gives you OBC based on your length of cruise. All the Cruise lines loyalty programs are very close in comparison. We enjoy early boarding, the tender benefit, dropping off our carry on at our cabin right after we board, and early leaving! That's totally fine and I bet you do wish they were indeed more. All I'm saying is that for the amount of money it takes to reach those levels it wouldn't be too much to expect a free dinner in a specialty restaurant, a free ship excursion, or some OBC, anything else besides geting on the ship 15 minutes before the others or a single drink. You may enjoy them and that's good and to each their own but let's face it, it's a joke. I get better rewards at the local grocery store. My belief is that simply that too many people strive to reach these levels and it's a letdown for what it costs ......

My point was they are extras, and sure we all want more, (the plat/dia. get together with free drinks, wish it was every day like RCL), but as they say about all loyalty clubs, cruise to cruise, not for loyalty benefits, so you'll enjoy what extras you get! evandbob Posted August 19, 2018 #33 Share Posted August 19, 2018 As a Diamond on Carnival, my luggage arrives at my cabin exactly when I put my S&S card in the door lock. Happens every single cruise, guaranteed. That's because I wheel my 1 piece of luggage on board myself.

You may enjoy them and that's good and to each their own but let's face it, it's a joke. I'm happy with Carnival, so I haven't cruised other lines to compare Platinum/Diamond perks, but FYI Carnival's D perks DOES include FREE dinner for two in a specialty restaurant and many others. Like you said, to each their own, but to say "it's a joke" is a joke in itself. I enjoy the free water, free laundry service, priority service line, embarkation and Half Moon Cay tender, and many other perks. I also enjoy the $100 OBC every cruise for being a Carnival shareholder. I look forward to the charitable donation Carnival will make to St. Jude's when I become D. I don't consider myself a Carnival "cheerleader", because I see plenty of room for improvement, especially (flame away, cheerleaders, flame away) the sub-standard cuts of meat in the MDR and barely enjoyable burgers at Fieri's place. But I happily pay extra for the EXCELLENT food in Steakhouse. I only started cruising in 2013, but I've been on 14 including my upcoming Horizon cruise, and the service and the fun kept me coming back. Now with the perks, why would I try another line? I remember reading a thread a year or so ago where it was a RC and Carnival cheerleader going at each other. It looked like the RC got the last dig when he chimed in something about "Carnival is a cruise line for rednecks, drunks and fat pigs", but the C came right back with something like "RC is a cruise line for people in wheelchairs and one-foot-in-the-grave" - which cracked me up because I visualized that RC might be more refined but less fun than Carnival. I'll take the fun! :D

Believe it not, some people actually enjoy cruising and would rather pocket the cost of perks - especially at cruise line prices. Tired of them destroying our luggage and than taking quite a long time for delivery inspite of supposedly getting it faster due to loyalty status
