This is Carol Tomandl, I am Ron's wife. It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I inform you that Ron died here at our home in Canada last evening. He died peacefully with me and our dog Winnie by his 
side.

Ron loved his job and wasn't afraid to say that. As captain, I know that he loved, protected and had great respect for all of the crew that traveled from all over the world and all walks of life to work on ships. 
He took his job seriously and safety was always his priority. 

Thank you for supporting him through his cancer treatment and return to work. I know it meant the world to him to get back on board and carry on. We had an extraordinary life together and I thank Royal Caribbean, in part, for 
that.

Please release a statement fleetwide informing all that he died of cancer as he did not want any speculation as to his demise.

He also served as Captain on Freedom.  I will never forget him as he was captain on a cruise in 2015 when I fell and broke my arm on the pier in St. Thomas.  He held the ship that day while the port agent brought several of us back to the ship.  I had the opportunity to sail with him again on Allure a couple of years later and was able to thank him.  I will try to post his bio from the ship tomorrow.

Captains Rob Hempstead & Henrik Loy on Wonder. Henrik Loy will be first captain of Icon.

I met him on Majesty back in 2007…a really nice friendly Captain.

Someone on the April 2nd sailing of the Wonder said Capt Rob was the captain for that week.

So not sure if Henrik got on 9th or not.  Might not come back since going to Icon. But I do no thing new captain of new ship spends a whole year at the ship yard either.  I would think he would leave he Wonder say in September.  BTW Icon does not sail until very late 2023 and it would be Henrik not Johnny leading the first sail.  Not sure if it is true that Johnny is the 2nd captain.   Would be right thought as both he and Henrik got their new ships in 2016 and Henrik moved to Wonder in 2022 and Johnny is still there which is quite long.  Most captains leave a new build within 2-3 years.

I made Capt Henrik coming on April 9, that would make Capt Rob's rotation 12 weeks. That's the preferred contract length now (12-14 weeks) according to Capt Stig

Aw makes sense as ten might be less efficient and Capt Johnny likes 11 or 12
