Upgrade worth it ?

Hello,

We are sailing on Infinity next month in a Sky Suite and with the 20% sale going on, we can upgrade to a Celibrity Suite for around $700 more. My question is, in anyone’s opinion, is it worth it. I’ve looked at the amenities with each room and there doesn’t appear to be much difference. So what am I missing and why would you do it. There is only the 2 of us, so it’s not imparative to have the extra room, and it looks like we still get Luminae and Michaels club with both rooms. Thanks for any helpful advice !

the only real difference is that in a Celebrity Suite you get a separate bedroom. We like it because it is quieter than the Sky Suite. The answer to your question, however, depends on your budget. Either way, enjoy your cruise

Are you sure Celebrity would let you upgrade without penalty? When we were in a similar position to yours, the only way we could upgrade was to cancel and rebook. That would have cost us $900 so we were happy to stay put in our very good cabin

Interesting I have never seen a 20% off sale for a cabin upgrade.

 

The CS on the MClass ships are wonderful. The living area is spacious and it has a dining table for 4, great for breakfast on a port day. On sea days with the separate bedroom the Butler would bring us juice and coffee, leave them on the dining table without disturbing us and when we woke we were set.

 

Compared to the small SS on MClass I would jump on this.

I agree with Phxazzcruisers; it depends primarily on your budget, but also on the length of the cruise and itinerary. If it was me, for only $700 more, I would upgrade. No matter what, you'll have a great experience, independent of which suite you choose. Enjoy!

It would be worth $700 more to us because a Celebrity Suite is a real suite, with a separate bedroom.

That is something we really like because we don't both always go to sleep or wake up at the same time.

 

If one person wakes up in the middle of the night and wants to turn on lights or watch TV or get something to eat or drink, you can do that without disturbing the other person.

 

 

 

What Celebrity calls a Sky Suite is not really a suite, but only a somewhat larger ordinary stateroom that gets a butler and extra perks.

 

We love the living rooms of the Celebrity Suites on the M-class ships, and think they are much nicer than the living rooms of the Royal Suites.

 

We also enjoy having the real dining table, and the separate desk/computer nook off the living room, as well as the second TV in the bedroom.

 

Another feature we like is the nice walk-in dressing table area with his and her closets.

But different features matter to different people. As I am well aware that those additional features of the Celebrity Suites that we enjoy having may not matter at all to you, I don't think we can really answer the question of whether or not it would be worth the additional $700 for you.

we have been in a celebrity suite on the Mclass ships a couple of times. The positive s are the two separate rooms, large storage and closet space. Negatives are very deep bathtub, if you are short or have difficulty lifting your legs can be a problem. Also, if the cabin hasn’t been refurbished, furniture and carpet not great condition. If the ship went to recent dry dock and the Celebrity Suite was refurbished great. It wasn’t on the Summit, only the Royal and Penthouse suites were redone.

 

If you can spend an additional $350 pp for the cruise, a nice experience.

7 day cruise for $100 per day or $700 total.......

14 day cruise for $50 per day or $700 total....

 

We would probably choose both. Very nice cabin in center of ship.

 

Should be no penalty since your upgrading. Only the additional cost of cabin

The answers you have been getting must be from people with a lot more disposable income than mine:). To me, there is no way I would pay that much $$ for an upgrade (presuming you are talking a 7 night cruise?). To some apparently $700 is not that much money. So it really depends on your financial situation/comfort level. I would rather take more cruises in a smaller cabin (and a Sky Suite is not too shabby for sure), than spend a lot of money for a larger cabin and take fewer cruises.

Good question. Because I travel alone I stick with Sky Suites, except when CS on an M-class ship fits my budget. If it were a Solstice class ship, for me the answer would be an easy "no" because I really don't care for the Celebrity suites on those ships--made that mistake once.

 

But on the Infinity it's a different story.

If you have one of the "nifty" Sky suites, 6131/32 or 6145/46 I might consider staying put. If any other sky suite, I'd move for a couple reasons:

 

• CSs on millennium class ships are really beautiful spaces--even if you don't need the space, and--like you-- I don't, not much beats that picture window wall. It's such a nice haven i can find myself rarely leaving.
  
• You will receive a slight up-tick in level of service from SS to CS. While not the level of care afforded to RS and PS, Celebrity suite occupants get a bit more coddling: contact from the landside concierge, the "magic" grey folder at checkin which guarantees the unnecessary, but enjoyable escort on board; depending on number of Zeniths on board, invite to a vip lunch in Blu. While at times I've found that SS still can get a "no" when looking for a last minute specialty reservation, CS is high enough to get one "in" with a simple stop at the MC concierge desk.

We love the M-class Celebrity Suites for the totally dark, separate bedroom (I am a poor sleeper if the room is too light and, even on holiday, my husband and I keep different hours) and the proper dining table. We do not eat dinner in the suite very often but it is much more civilised eating lunch or breakfast and the occasional dinner at a table. The extra storage is convenient too allowing for organised storage even if you travel light.

 

The shower over the very high sided bath is the biggest disadvantage .
