shepp Posted November 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2018 The new Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards are out and, rather surprisingly, in the large ship (2500 to 4000 pax) category Princess is number 2, behind Disney but comfortably ahead of perennial favorite Celebrity (at #6). In the medium ship category PCL lags behind bunch of luxury lines and Disney but still outranks Azamara, RCI, HAL and X. Yeah, it's just a popularity contest and CN Traveler appeals to a niche market, but it's still nice to see. After all, in Cruise Critic polls Princess often trails Carnival and NCL and Celebrity gets all the glory. Looks like the Royal class is a hit. I do wonder why X didn't score well: gone down in quality? Or maybe the folks in Santa Clarita bought votes? (Just kidding.) Anyway, congrats to you all for being such discerning travelers. neverbeenhere Posted November 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2018 Princess had a more organized campaign to get votes this year.
shepp Posted November 5, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted November 5, 2018 Never heard about a campaign. They never contacted me. Did they you?
neverbeenhere Posted November 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2018 I was getting continual emails from most lines while the “voting” was going on. Many asking for votes.
GUT2407 Posted November 5, 2018 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2018 Like a political election by the sounds of it, who campaigned best.
mcrcruiser Posted November 5, 2018 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2018 We have sailed all the cruise lines & we pick Princess # 1 over all . Yes we voted
moki'smommy Posted November 5, 2018 #7 Share Posted November 5, 2018 Sounds something like the Oscars.....he who campaigns the most wins! On the other hand, we did find 2018 Princess much better than 2016 Princess.
Colo Cruiser Posted November 5, 2018 #8 Share Posted November 5, 2018 Conde Nast always has meaningless cruise polls that don’t line up with anything.
cruzsnooze Posted November 5, 2018 #9 Share Posted November 5, 2018 Azamara is not a fair comparison since it's 690 passengers and all inclusive, it's a better cruise experience and is not a mass market line.
mevs904 Posted November 5, 2018 #10 Share Posted November 5, 2018 Well the results followed our opinions. Disney is our fave followed by Princess.

jagsfan Posted November 5, 2018 #12 Share Posted November 5, 2018 Yes it is. Plus it’s apples and oranges. But extremely well organized.

It may have something to do with the identity crisis Celebrity is experiencing. IMHO, the cannot figure out whether they want to be a luxury line or a mass market line.
