Quantum class and Harmony use the Royal IQ app which does not have an electronic set sail pass functionality.

Harmony now uses the Royal app.  I did have my set sail pass on it. No texting thru the app. The changed over a few weeks ago. Used it on my sailing. As of two weeks ago iMessage still worked.

We were on Harmony Jan 20-27 and able to use the texting on the Royal app.  It worked really well.  We were able to text each other on the ship as well as those at home.  All with our phones in airplane mode signed into the Royal Wi-FI.

Can you tell us where you found that feature in the app?

I just signed onto the Royal Caribbean app.  I checked my settings and saw it was connected to the Royal Caribbean WiFi.  I then just sent texts using the message feature on my IPhone.  I was texting to/from IPhones.  I had heard on Allure that there was no sound when a text was received, but mine worked the same as it did when I received a text off the ship.

Are you sure it was through the app or was it because of the hole in the firewall.

Texting through the app app only allows texting between people on the ship and not at home.

That is because of the hole in the firewall and not the ships texting feature.  Harmony is the only ship ( other than Quantim class)  that has this hole in the firewall and allows this texting

Ok. I thought you found the feature in the app.

Ken you could be right, but this is not on the Royal IQ app and others who are on Allure now are doing the same thing as I did.  I saw on the other site that can't be mentioned here, yesterday people on the ship were posting they could text  like I did. They said their version said BETA, but I don't remember seeing that on my phone.

I just know I was able to text my family at home using the Wi-Fi of Royal Caribbean after I signed into the app.  I'm sorry that I don't know how it worked other than what I posted.  I just know it worked.  I sent texts frequently as did my sister.

Texting through the app has been available in Allure for a while now.  I used it at Christmas.  It is totally different that what you are describing.  Even though Harmony switched from the Royal IQ to the Royal app the hole that was previously there  still remains and allowed you to text

Once they get it fixed (if) and have texting available through the app you will only be able to text people on board the ship. (Unless you pay for an internet package)

I guess I didn't realize what was on Harmony and what is on Allure is not the same.  I know that Harmony had the Royal IQ and now that is discontinued.  I thought based on what I read yesterday that they were the same on both because we are sailing on Allure in June.  I was hoping to be able to text back home, but if not, it's not a big deal.  Thanks for the info.

The app is also working on the Vision since Jan 19th. Works great and the best feature on Vision Class ships is you can see your bill on the app in real time.....no more waiting in line at GS to have your bill printed...you also see all your voucher purchases... diamond drinks, casino pulls, free photos....etc.

The IT person told us that texting/messaging will be coming soon!

I will be going on the Serenade in June with a group of 8 with linked reservations.  Am I correct from what I have read above, my group will be able to text each other on the ship for free if we have the RCI app even if we don't buy the internet package?

No.  Texting is not available on Serenade.
