Stratheden Posted December 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2018 Would someone who has used the gym please let me know if there is a requirement for specific footwear in the gym. I will have my slip on sketchers that I walk everywhere in. Would I be able to wear them on the treadmill. I am trying to cut down on the number of pair of shoes that I pack. Any advice would be most helpful.

If there is a specific rule, I have not seen it in the last 20 years of HAL cruising...
CruiserBruce Posted December 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 15, 2018 I work out almost every day I have been on during our 12 HAL cruises. I agree, the variety of footwear is impressive. I do worry about safety, though. My work out shoes are also my walk around town daily shoes, so multiple uses.
KarefreeKaren Posted December 15, 2018 #4 Share Posted December 15, 2018 I jumped in one day to lift some light weights with flip flops on... got told that was a no no!

Rare Copper10-8 Posted December 16, 2018 #6 Share Posted December 16, 2018 You wouldn't want to have "slip-on shoes" come off while having a "nice pace" going on a treadmill. Gym staff would want you to wear shoes that are nice and tight on your feet for safety purposes. Same with lifting weights while wearing "flip-flops"
SetAnOpenCourse Posted December 16, 2018 #7 Share Posted December 16, 2018 Try them out on a treadmill before the cruise, then you’ll know. I usually bring a pair of sneakers when I travel, but if I did not, I’d just wear what I had, on the treadmill, if I thought it would work. You know your shoes, the fit, etc. better than anyone else.
wyobean Posted December 16, 2018 #8 Share Posted December 16, 2018 I also wear Skechers ragae sandals(best shoes ever) everyday for everything. I walk miles in them and have walked on the treadmill at home and on a couple ships. I own a pair of tennis shoes but rarely wear them. It is easy for me to pack a couple colors of Skechers and be good. I do mostly walk the deck of the ship rather than using the treadmill, tho. I do check what excursions we will be going on as they may require closed shoes.
