USing Medallion on Princess

We just received our medallion package today and your medallion now reflects the color status that you are. So the inner circle is your color and ours is platinum and the trim around the circle looks like stainless steel with your name on the top of the circle and the name of ship and date of your cruise at the bottom half of the circle. The plastic holders that the medallion fits inside are all blue now. So everyone will have blue plastic medallion holders, but the medallions will be whatever status you are.

I agree! We were on the CB a few weeks ago and the Medallion “lived” in our pockets or my purse unless needed. As an aside, I noticed the bulk of those wearing them on lanyards were first timers.

How did you know?   My understanding is that Medallions are still all blue, with

Captain's Circle color-coding still in the future...?

Nevermind.

Crazy confusing! We got ours right before Christmas. Blue medallions and blue backgrounds but gray (I would guess maybe “platinum”?) lanyards. We board soon so it will be interesting to see the variety on board as it seems there are a host of different varieties and combinations out there! Maybe on CB that’s the type they sent? Other ships, other combinations? In any case I suspect ours will wind up in our pockets so we can rejuvenate back to being newbies!

*  I see all these people taking it out of the holder and putting it in pockets, purses, etc.  Seems that it could get lost easily.  How is your account, cabin access, purchases, etc. protected if lost or stolen?

Your information is protected since it's stored only on Princess's computer system but the main problem with losing your Medallion is that anyone who finds it has access to your cabin since the screens around the ship will give them that information.

I was told that they were in the process of changing this but to date I haven heard about it happening.

Don't lose your Medallion.

I haven't used the Medallion, but did use my wowband on Royal Caribbean and you had to tap in and tap out of the machine. Is that the case for the Medallion as well?

Yes, you'll need to place your Medallion up against the sensor to access the funds stored on your casino "account" and then again to cash out to your "account". The funds don't go onto your cruise account, but a separate casino account that you can only get in cash if you go to the cage.

And if you do, report it to the purser’s desk IMMEDIATELY.

They will cancel accesses on the lost one and provide you with a new one.

This is a huge hole in the OM system. One I’ve been told they are well aware of and working on a solution.

The Ocean Ready display screens will even provide a handy map to the bad guy that leads him right to your cabin!

Let me clarify. While in the casino you can access your cruise account to get your OBC by putting into your casino "account". But once you've pulled that money into your casino account (which you have to do if you are gambling in the casino) you can only cash out by going to the casino cage. That money won't go back onto your cruise card even if you want it to.

So one then can move the entirety of the Refundable OBCs from a shipboard account to a casino account, make one wager on a slot machine, then go to the casino cashier and cash out the entire amount?

We often finish a cruise with more than $1K in refundable OBCs in our shipboard account. Would they really peel off 12 or 13 hundred dollar bills and hand them to me?

I haven't done that with my refundable credit so I can't speak to that. Maybe someone else can chime in?

I did receive my last OBC check from a November cruise within just a couple weeks.

It's been 3 month since I reported the hole in their program.

We'll be on next week & it'll be interesting to see if it's been fixed yet.

I'll bet it hasn't. 😉

That's interesting because we are platinum, and our medallion cases are blue.

Ours were blue as well. It seemed random as to what color your medallion was. We just got off the Regal on Sunday and we were given both a card and medallion. The medallion opened the cabin door and you could use it to purchase in the shops or at the IC. The bars still looked at your card for folio number.

There were no wristbands or stuff available for them. Interestingly, if you have a pacemaker, the lanyard is not good as the medallion is magnetized. So it ends up in a pocket anyway

I had a similar conversation with the "Lead Navigator" (that was her title) on the CB in November. I'm also curious. Please let us know what you find. We are on the Grand next month so nothing to report there!

Princess has generously provided you with a "shopping opportunity". The have for sale in their OM store all manner of insert cards including those that denote status. Wasn't that nice of them? You are only limited by the size of your wallet and/or OBC account.

I believe she was the same person that told me to delete and reinstall the  "Ocean Read" app on my phone as I could never get it to work. Here it is 2 months later & it still doesn't work after numerous tries. :classic_sad:

We shall see if it's fixed or not although I really don't expect it to be at this time.

Made my own at no cost and also a Medallion carrier.

I would never consider paying them anything to advertise or promote their Medallion.

$60 for a cheap gold plated necklace so my wife can show her friends at home. 😵

They would laugh themselves silly. 😁 😁

They are only slightly magnetic & barely strong enough to pick up a few paper clips. They must have taken that into consideration when designing them otherwise there would have been people being affected by now wearing the necklaces.

I seen a post that said it was near the photo shop? On the Caribbean Princess. The cost was $25.00 😳

Tony

Disney sells special bands for their similar "access" MagicBands in excess of that so seems reasonable.  I would pay that to not have the thing hanging around my neck.

Anyone recall colors of bands offered for sale?  I'd like to ask someone to pre-purchase the bands for us but hubby wants different colors (like WDW).  Also, is it waterproof? Can I swim with it on? thanks

They are waterproof and not affected much by anything including strong magnets.

About the only thing that does affect it is wrapping it in a piece of aluminum foil which will block it from their sensors & you'll also not be able to use it to get into your cabin unless you unwrap it.

If they're still issuing the new cruise cards along with the Medallion, they also are not affected my a magnet or phone placed near them like the older cruise cards.

Do we really need to broadcast our status? I am pretty sure that is an ego thing. I am Platinum as was my medallion and the insert card was blue. Did it bother me? Nope. I had no trouble discerning the status of others who were wearing their medallion despite the blue card. If you want a different insert card to massage your tender ego then be my guest and waste your dollars on a different insert.

I've created my own political themed insert for my next Medallion trip. 😁

There has been a lot of talk about medallion management -- THIS set of messages does not mention an interesting item that was in different  thread (series of messages on a topic) -- it suggested that their medallion spontaneously popped out of the holder more than once -

Accordingly, we have added Scotch Tape to our "packing list" to wrap a strip around the whole thing.

I added a small strip of blue masking tape on the edge to ensure that the holder doesn't pop open.

I misplaced my Medallion on our CB cruise in January. Guest services determined it was  in our cabin. Once I knew that I didn’t really worry about it much, I was using my cruise card more than the Medallion anyway. Found it a day or so later in the safe. I was surprised the signal could be picked up from inside the safe.

It wasn't picked up from inside the safe at all but from the last point that was recorded, which was entering your room.

On the Regal when we were on it in Feb the upper deck 17 they still didn't have sensors installed so the last place that was reported to the computer was the stairs leading to deck 17. There were no sensors at the Retreat pool at all.
