cambriah Posted January 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2019 Will be going on a Princess Caribbean cruise in less than a month (YEA) and we received an invitation from Princess to participate in their Oceanmedallion Program. I know nothing about this program. Can someone out there give me a brief description of this program and whether or not it is worth the time/effort to participate? We are two Senior Seniors who are somewhat "Technically challenged". Thanks in advance! Cambriah
OCruisers Posted January 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2019 We never responded so got a call from a very nice person at Princess wanting to know if we got the OM invite and had any questions. Explained we did not have a smart phone. She told us not to worry -- no smart phone needed. They would program and give us our OM when we checked in and we would find it easy to use. We leave on Caribbean Princess a week from today .
eagletwo Posted January 6, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 6, 2019 We are on the Caribbean Princess. The easy way to explain OM is it is your room key and cruise card all in one. No need to worry, plenty of staff on board to help you understand how the Medallion works.
Potstech Posted January 6, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 6, 2019 If anyone that has taken their OM has a medallion they do not want PM me as I would like to get one to use to design a holder for a 3D printer. Then there would not be a need to buy one.

What a wonderfully accurate and brief description. Spot on! Don’t let it intimidate you. No “techno smarts” required. Instead of inserting the cruise card, you simply touch the OM device to the clearly marked “reader” and your done.

Do you actually have to touch the OM "reader"? Some have said it will unlock your cabin door without your doing anything as long as it's with you. satxdiver Posted January 6, 2019 #11 Share Posted January 6, 2019 (edited) When you approach your cabin with the OM in your possession (my case in my pocket) the cabin door will automatically unlock so that all you have to do is turn the handle. When you exit or return to the ship, they will ask you to place your OM over a small reader. Same is true if you buy anything on the ship, they will have you place your OM on the reader. The readers are slightly larger than the OM and are lighted. When you put your OM on the reader it will change colors signifying that the OM has been read. It is all that simple and so easy to use. You will also be given a cruise card just like before OM. You will need the card when returning to most ports (as well as an ID sometimes) and when approaching the gangplank to board the ship. I can understand the port in that they are port security and not Princess. Surely though Princess could do a better job with their own security guarding the gangplank. Princess needs to step up and do what is right. Edited January 6, 2019 by satxdiver

No for being recognized while walking past an Ocean Ready display screen. No for bring recognized at one of the many POSs on the ship. Definitely yes for off/on the ship in port. Definitely yes when making purchases when a reader is involved at a POS. Definitely yes when logging in at Ocean Ready display screens (not to simply be recognized). Probably others I’m forgetting The blue Princess logo turns green when your OM device had been regognized and read. Turns back to blue for the next person after you remove your OM device from the reader

Desert Kitty Posted January 20, 2019 #16 Share Posted January 20, 2019 So what is the fee to use this program? We are on the Royal next month and haven't heard anything from Princess about this. Penny

The only problem is that Medallion will not be integrated into or operational on the Royal in time for your sailing.
