I believe the older ships that do not have a designated Haven section has premium room, i.i Deluxe Owners Suite.... Garden Villa, etc. The premium room guests are referred to as VIP

Never seen that happen.  Only thing is seating in main show for os, dos, gv on Dawn and Jewel class.  Even with that, some concierges will reserve one side of the upper portion for all suite guests in addition to the reserved section for os, dos, gv.  Maybe GVers get something but haven't seen a specific mention of vip for any of those categories other than what is advertised.

When I offer in a Roll Call I say I will only approach the cruise line when I have 25 people who have sent me their intention to attend and their details.  My email is on the Roll Call for them to do that.

I did this on one cruise and approached the cruise line about 3 months after the offer to say I would like to arrange the M&G, it was when I had my "Magic Number".  I was told that someone had already approached the cruise line and gave me the date.  It was 2 days after I had offered on the Roll Call.

That person had NEVER in that 3 months put any post on the actual Roll Call.

I "called him out" on the Roll Call and he graciously offered, in an email to my private address not in the Roll Call, to let me help him make the arrangements!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He still had never posted to the Roll Call so I gratefully refused his magnanimous offer.   I did say that any information given to me by persons on the Roll Call would be deleted immediately from my computer.

He decided to take a different cruise!!!

So I am the organiser!!!

A real case of "Caveat Emptor" or something similar!!!

Shameful!

I didn't know that NCL listed the M&G setup person as a VIP.  Thanks for letting me know this.  I am Platinum on NCL and my last cruise in November on the Jade, I set up the M&G meeting because no one else wanted to do it.  During the cruise I received a plate of goodies almost every day, and thought wow, they are really updating the benefits for their platinum members.  Now I know why they were treating me so well.  I do remember the group cruise coordinator also telling me that I could have lunch and breakfast in Cagney's because they had put me on the list, but I did not take advantage of that. All the treats got to be almost too much, I think the last couple of plates I told them, this is enough, no more please.  I thought they just really liked me,  LOL.   Well it is true, sometimes Ignorance is Bliss.   I may have to volunteer to set up a M&G again.  It was actually very easy as NCL does most of the work for you, and they are great to work with.  See, you can be a VIP and not have a clue.

I have cruised NCL over 35 times.  A couple of years ago it was my birthday month and when I got to my cabin I had streamers, banners and balloons for my birthday.  I thought my daughter had ordered it but when I got home she had not.  I guess it was from NCL and I may have had other things but I don't remember.  I guess I was a VIP of sorts that week.

I have arranged at least 5 M & G.  You can't assume doing it you will be given VIP  I was granted VIP on 3 of the 5.  2 of my groups I was given nothing. Coincidentally I thought they were my most attended and most successful.  Not sure how it is decided but I do it because I really like planning lol and I love getting to know other people on the cruise.  It really worked well for my Meditteranean cruise as we all discussed excursions and tours on that first sea day Meet N Greet.  (PS It was one of the ones that I was not a VIP for lol.)  Just saying don't plan a Meet N Greet expecting to have VIP or you might end up disappointed.  Plan it because you like to and then maybe be surprised.  I still keep in touch with people that I have met through M & G's  Also if someone has offered to do it don't step on their toes.  As the poster above said...It's not nice.  Sometimes I am first other times I attend

Well I guess if you have never seen that, it mustn't be so...... OR others only prefer to sail on the older ships and thus when dealing with NCL cruise consultants etc. hear it all the time.  FYI When you are on the older ship (The Star as example) they don't call you VIP.

I agree totally! I have had similar experiences. Like you, I too love to start or join the roll call as soon as  I book and chat with fellow cruisers. A couple of times I have started and then moved to a different cruise (for reasons nobody should or has a right to judge! ) and always informed the roll call and introduced the person who will be picking up, personally to the NCL coordinator.

I have arranged 2 Meet and Mingles and only in recent years.
However way before that I had been given the VIP perks on Gem, Jewel, Dawn and Star. 2 times on the Gem, 2 x on the Star.... Absolutely no clue why on the Dawn and Jewel! Once on the Breakaway and once on the Escape (and that was not including the one where I had arranged the M and G).

But it is not right to assume that everyone coordinating the M and G are doing so to get the perks !

I had VIP status on my Jade cruise a few weeks ago which I would guess I received from my play at the casino on my previous May Epic cruise (which I didn't have VIP status).  On this past VIP cruise, I received nothing physical, no deliveries or invites to anything.  Perhaps I could have asked.  However, every time your key card was scanned by the staff, it will show VIP for everyone in the stateroom.  The big benefit was restaurants, in the MDR or Jasmines, you get sat down immediately vs several people before you receiving pagers for the same number of people.  I called restaurant reservations about a month before the cruise and they only had late times.  Once on board I was able to change all three to 6pm and had to change one of those 6pm reservations again, the night of, by a half hour without any problems.  No idea if that had anything to do with the VIP status or not.  I would imagine for bookable activities you probably receive priority.

We board the Pearl this Saturday (1/12) and our travel agent said that she, through the NCL rep, got us listed as a "VIP" and that there would be "something extra" for us in our mini-suite. Any idea what this might be?

We originally booked a balcony with three "Free at Sea" choices, but upgraded to a mini-suite later through our travel agent (instead of the bid process). In doing so, we lost one of our "Free at Sea" choices because the NCL rep apparently said that three choices wasn't part of the deal anymore. Our agent was not satisfied with that and went to bat for us and not only got us an OBC equal to the third choice, but also this "VIP" designation. I just don't know what that means.

@mahuwf I assume that you're back; can you share what the perks were and how it went?

I had vip years ago. I am going to ask my TA if they have this as an old TA got it for me. I was in a regular room. I really liked how while waiting to boats you got to wait in the suite area and got priority boarding!! That in itself was awesome!

We have been VIP and I have no knowledge of the real reason why.  Would love to know why so we could do the same thing to get it again!!!!

Hi Mike.

I believe that you have hosted/organized the CruiseCritic's Meet & Greet on several occations in the past? NCL normally gives the organizer of that event the VIP status during that entire cruise....

Well this is sure interesting! I handled our M&G on Star a couple of weeks ago because our roll call was dead. I had never done it before and certainly didn't expect anything for it.

Unexpectedly, we received a little plate of hors d'oeuvres (ex. 4 pieces of chocolate, 3 little cake bites, 4 pieces of cheese with grapes and crackers, etc) to our room every single day under the name of the concierge/hotel manager/ guest services manager. A few minutes prior to announcing tender times for ports where we had to do that, we would receive a letter to our room welcoming us to join "priority disembarkation" hosted by the concierge.  Lastly, our room did unexpectedly have bath robes and Bvlgari toiletries which were refreshed during the cruise.

I didn't receive any letter or any explanation (never heard or saw the word "VIP"), so just chalked it up to doing the M&G thing.  I did talk to someone at M&G who said their travel agent often gets them "VIP" status on NCL cruises but hadn't been able to get it for them on the Star because the ship told them they didn't participate in that.
