kkat10 Posted February 22, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2019 I am thinking of cruising from NJ next February---Will it be to cold and make things miserable? How long will it be cold before it starts to warm up? I am trying to decide if we should just fly to FL instead?? Also will the seas be much rougher leaving from NJ vs FL? Thanks for any help!! I would like to save on airfare seeing we are in CT but not sure if its worth it!
Rare LHT28 Posted February 22, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2019 it could be cold until you reach Florida so if you do a 10+ day cruise you will get some nice weather once you get south Or just fly to Florida only you can decide what works for you 😉
Host Carolyn Posted February 22, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 22, 2019 The sea off Carolinas and Virginia can also be vtry rough that time of year if a winter storm is moving up the coast
Rare Got2Cruise Posted February 22, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 22, 2019 I’m from NYC area and wouldn’t consider a Feb cruise. I want sun sea and sand. Fly to Florida. Lots of choices especially if you book soon.
Rare Noxequifans Posted February 22, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2019 I agree ... flying to Florida seems the best. Since the OP has time before the cruise look at the temperatures in the newspaper or online from CT to Florida to help your decision.
lenquixote66 Posted February 22, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2019 We cruise from Manhattan or Bayonne nearly every February and have yet to have a bad cruise in 8 years. We have not encountered any bad weather that made the cruise intolerable.
mets123 Posted February 23, 2019 #7 Share Posted February 23, 2019 I cruise in that time frame as well and only once had a problem. Only you can decide what you are comfortable with. This past January I did a twelve night from Cape Liberty and had the smoothest sailing in over 50 cruises.
marco Posted February 23, 2019 #8 Share Posted February 23, 2019 No way to predict. We've done several cruises out of NYC and Cape Liberty in Jan and Feb. Seas can be as smooth as a mill pond (or not). As you're soon in the gulf stream it's warmer an you might think. We've been out and around the pool by the afternoon the day after leaving NYC. A couple of years ago we around and in the pool until late in the afternoon the day prior to docking in NYC. On the other hand, it could be in the 50's and blustery the 1st and last day. The demographics are somewhat different, as well. The majority of passengers are from within a 100 mile radius of NY/NJ and most just don't like to fly. If you're from CT, the downside of leaving from NY or NJ in the winter months might outweigh the cost and hassle of flying to Fla. We would prefer leaving from NY/NJ and the only reason we don't anymore is we are not fond of the choices of ships/lines.
