Independence of the Seas questions

Recommended Posts

I have been searching for answers to a few questions that are turning up either no answer or conflicting answers. Can anyone who has been on independence recently tell me:

1) Are there ice skates for toddlers? (My girls wear toddler size 6. They are just turning 3 years old. So, pretty tiny feet.) I’ve heard mixed reports on this.

2) If two people want to do the Observatorium (escape room), will we be forced to share the time with other groups, or are we able to reserve the room for just the two of us? (I assume this depends on demand, but i was surprised I couldn’t find a discussion on this anywhere.)

3) I’ve only been on smaller ships, never one of this size. I hear they don’t rock and sway as much. My husband gets motion sickness and my girls have shown signs of it too. Should we bring Dramamine or sea bands or is that unnecessary on indy?

Thanks in advance!

I would think they have smaller skates because RC's website says a parent has to be on the ice with any child under 6, implying they have smaller sizes. I'm not sure how small the skates go though.

Ice Skating

  • Parents must be present to supervise their minors at all times and must be on the ice rink with any child under 6.

Indy didn't have the escape room back when I sailed her, but I read on another forum that you will be put together in a group.

Indy was my first cruise, and I am very prone to motion sickness - I can't even ride in the backseat of a car for extended periods of time. I took a half a non-drowsy dramamine each morning to be safe, and was fine. The only time I really felt motion was in the casino when I was staring at the slot machine right in front of me. I felt like I was reading in a car. Your experience may be totally different though because of weather, and I'm sure the itinerary is different than what I sailed 8 years ago.  My son has a well check coming up next month, so I'm going to see what my pediatrician recommends just in case for the kids, but I'm leaning towards the bands since I haven't seen a non-drowsy kids motion sickness pill.

Yes, bring whatever you think you might need.  The amount of ship motion is not predictable.

Thanks! I did not see that. Hopefully that means they have toddler size skates!

And thank you both for the motion sickness response. I suppose better safe than sorry. I'll look into non-drowsy Dramamine.

My oldest (26) swears by Bonine - and she's been turning green since she was a toddler.  She said it was life saver on the last cruise (smaller ship on Carnival), she uses is almost daily when using Uber or Lyft, I hate to think what she may go through one day with pregnancy but she's found it's the best to have on hand.  I'm going to bring some because while I'm usually good occasionally it can get the best of me but I've rarely had any issue on this class of ships (have done both Liberty and Freedom).

On Anthem we had a load of No-shows on our booked slot and only six took part. It was pretty difficult. You really have to think out side the box. We didn't complete it in time, maybe we would if we had a full group. I don't think they would run it with just two people

RC carries size 2-7 children size skates according to a previous poster a while back.  They do run out as I don’t think they have as many as regular adult sizes. You might need to get there early.  Also long pants and full socks are required

HAHAHA, this is the logo I made for the front of t-shirts for my group - we'll all have the deluxe beverage package 🙂

That's awesome.  I did the drink package also, I stocked up on Rebound patches in preparation.  First time on Royal, looking forward to the experience.  Will be new for us, we did NCL exclusively up until now.

I previously sailed before drink packages were available but did have one the last time on Carnival and loved just not having to worry about it and prepaying it!  Have an awesome time and thank you 🙂
