CAS Room Upgrade?

First time NCL cruiser here. I had an offer from a land based casino for Inside Stateroom. They booked me in the Mid-Ship Inside Room which costs $979.

 

If I were to look at upgrading to Balcony ($1,079), would the difference be $100 or does CAS has a set price for upgrades?

CAS has a price which is close to a retail upgrade cost. Call and ask, they are more than happy to look it up for you.

My CAS upgrade from inside to balcony was $400 in December (as a solo) on a 10 night sailing of the Epic and they quoted me $1050 ($525 x 2) for my upcoming 7 night Pear sailing. No more solo upgrade benefit through CAS and a dramatically increased upgrade fee.

Thanks, I'll call them in the morning. If it's way over the $100/pp difference shown on site, I'll wait to bid.

For our January Breakaway cruise in which we used the land based casino offer I inquired about the upgrade and it was a lot more than what it was the year before. Called several times to see if the price had gone down to upgrade, nope! Luckily we had a successful bid to upgrade to a balcony, much less than what it would have been to pay for the upgrade outright. Just picked up another certicate tonight, anxious to book another cruise.

no bargain there ..lyou pay to cruise and gamble even more ...so now twice as expensive as before 

The incentive to cruise with NCL is quickly disappearing

Paying double to upgrade was for solo cruisers through CAS. As of last month, Ruby and Elite tier level players no longer have to pay double if sailing alone.

Still too much .....i want the old waysback ....no doubling because I.m solo .They make that money andmore from my gambling ...sorry NCL you just may have lost me as a passenger....

i will switch and try to find better deals with other companies ...your cruise rates are getting out of hand and the quality of food is really seriously deteriorating ....I think you are going to lose many players if you do not change this policy .even the Cas people could not understand why you did this .....time for me to go backto Princess

There is no set price, think it's a factor of how many nights, what ship, how busy, etc. And it's also not the difference in the price from inside to balcony that you see posted on their website. Going on the Getaway out of NYC for 7 nights during Easter week, paid $650 each to upgrade to a balcony.

They quoted my $800 total to upgrade from CAS comped inside to a balcony for upcoming Escape sailing.  It's technically $400pp but they charge for two.  I love a balcony but am content in an inside cabin if going solo.  I'll try bidding for an upgrade, but it will be on the low end.

even with no doubling, the price to upgrade to balcony was getting ridiculous.

for my last cruise certificate, it was around $500/pp to upgrade from inside to balcony.

 

i went through Urcomped and got 7day Celebrity Edge for free!

Edge just came out a couple of months ago.

that's like getting the Bliss for free a couple of months after she came out.

 

next, im going to try MSC for free.

but dont get me wrong. im not going to stop sailing free ncl cruises. (land casino certificates) 

and since April is the start of the new CAS casino year, im in no rush to gamble hard.

**Update**

 

Called CAS this morning and they said $500PP to Balcony. I asked why is it such a huge increase when online, the difference is $100PP. She put me on hold for awhile and said wow this is a rare case, we do see online it's only $100 increase. I got put back on hold and she says ok your room is change from Inside to Angle Balcony for $100PP. I'M HAPPY!!!! No worries of having to bid!

i got shot down last year trying the same thing.

 

ncl.com price from inside to balcony was cheaper than the cas upgrade price.

cas rep said that's the preset upgrade pricing on cas certificates. 

 

so cas either changed their policy this year or you lucked out. (altho my cas rep didnt talk to a supervisor like yours did. maybe i should have asked him to ask his boss.)

either way, enjoy your angled balcony for $100!!!

It was well worth the hour hold time, then 30 minutes with the rep. I'm guessing most would've hung up by then. This is for the Joy, even better for newer ship!

I should've put it was a Inside Mid-Ship, $979 right now. Still a difference of $100. Fluke or luck, my fiance said whoohoo to the Balcony! lol.

It never hurts to call CAS back!    It's a good idea to keep an eye on the current prices of the different categories.  Upgrades will probably cost you more early on but as you get closer to sail date they sometimes find they can do something more for you based on the availability of cabins.   I always plan to be on the phone for awhile just in case they need to chat with their supervisor 🙂

That is great the angled balcony is a plus,plus.  Much more room.

im tempted to use my certificate and book it for the cheap angled balcony upgrade.

I would suggest you  research the angled balconies yourself and have the cabin numbers you are interested in ready when you call CAS.  They don't show up as a separate type of category but the CAS agents I have spoken to are happy to check the cabin numbers you ask for to see if one is available.   

The angled balconies are a real deal with that extra space.  Enjoy 🙂
