on Edge now in a Sky Suite....Some early comments

Embarkation for suites is exceptional. A private entrance and a quick sign in.  You walk into a large area with seating an nibbles and someone comes to you to take care of signing you in.  Quick and painless.  We have heard the it was also pretty easy for non suite guests.  My issue, however, is once you are signed in you board the ship with everyone else and are herded into the lobby to fend for yourself.  No ship map no real instructions, just busy elevators and no one knowing where to go.  We preferred it when we were escorted aboard and taken right to Michael's Club.

A very nice procedure is that you are allowed to go straight to your stateroom, no matter what time you board to get your keys and leave your hand baggage.  Rooms were actually completed and ready about 1:00.

The ship is gorgeous.  The materials and art work on board are beautiful.  The Sky Suite itself is on the small side, but has a very large bathroom with a tub/shower and a double sink.  Very nice furnishings and a LOT of storage space.

There are 170 suites on the ship, so Luminae is large and usually very crowded and noisy compared to the M and S Class,  The service and food are excellent, but it loses some of its charm and character being so large.

The Retreat lounge, pool and sun deck area are very nice and have upgraded lounges and is usually quiet and a great place to get away.

Eden is very interesting and a must see space.

More later, if there are any questions, please let me know and I will do my best to answer.

Is there a chair in your suite or only a sofa? How is the balcony furniture?

There is a chair for the desk, but other than that only a hard sofa.  We brought one of the balcony chairs into the room.  It is actually very comfortable.  We have 2 lounge chairs and 2 chips on the balcony with a small table.  One note, neither of the tables, the one in the room nor the ne on the balcony is actually tall enough to comfortable order in room service and eat.  WE sometimes enjoy breakfast on the balcony, but did not get to experience it on this voyage.

We just returned this past Sunday.  We were in a S1 Sky Suite with the bed facing the balcony.  Our experience was the same as yours boarding the ship.  We arrived at 10:45am and basically boarded the ship with everyone else.  The private suite waiting area seemed nice but we passed through it since the ship was already boarding.

Our cabin had no table in it when we boarded but on day 3 or 4 they brought in a very low white table to put in front of the sofa.  Our deck had a very small table and two chairs.  This is the first cruise we didn't order room service for breakfast.  Really no comfortable place to eat in the cabin.  Our shower leaked on the floor all week long.  The bathroom door is a major PIA.  Very difficult to open and if you don't keep it shut it will slam shut.  The magnet around it is very strong!

We loved the Retreat area except for the lack of complete shady areas.  The Retreat Lounge was always freezing cold and we missed having a bar inside although they would get you whatever drink you wanted.

We ate breakfast in Lumanie every day but had our dinners in Blu.  The menu in Lumanie just didn't wow us and we missed the ability to order from the main dining room.  We did have one dinner in Lumanie the night we were in San Juan.  The service was very disconnected and "off".

Hope you have a great cruise!  We probably won't do the Edge again.

Spammie,

Just curious..what time did you dine in BLU?  Did you have a wait?  How were the acoustics?  Was the kitchen slow on any night?

We were  on EDGE   in AQ Class ( January)  and enjoyed the food in BLU. It was crowded at early times,  and  had loud acoustics by the window (.no benefit to those seats as there's no view and shades were kept closed).

Some nights the kitchen was slow,  Wait staff service was excellent!

They opened early  on a few nights b/c they realized the dining pattern was not quite in sync with the  theater show time,,,

Phxazzcruisers,

....looking forward to more of your review,  Enjoy your cruuse!

WOW, we would echo almost all of your comments.  We had to put the garbage bin by the bathroom door to keep it open to avoid the slamming.  Our bathroom floor was also always wet from the shower and we stopped using the shower door and went in through the tub.  We did have dinner one night in Blu as we have friends in Aqua and we join them.  To be honest, we did enjoy Blu even more than Luminae.  It was smaller and more comfortable

We are having a great cruise, but really seem to prefer the M and S Class ships.

I'm another one that agrees with you. We were in a mid ship S1 11207. While we did not have any problems with the bathroom or the bathroom door. We do enjoy the Sweet Life with Celebrity, but not on the Edge. Blu did seemed more inviting than Luminae. I might consider a 12 night cruise on the Edge for booking Aqua in 2022. I'm done with booking suites on the Edge.

We don't make reservations for dinner.  We usually showed up anywhere between 6:30pm and 7:30pm.  We never had to wait for a table.  We sat in the middle of the room and the acoustics were good.  We had amazing service from everyone!

Thanks...looks like going a bit later is the best approach..  Would we be able to make the show?

For  our  next cruise on EDGE  we will be in the 4 mdrs, but eventually will be back in AQ...on EDGE or APEX.

Really do not care for size of sky suites but love perks and really like the thought of the retreat area, just waiting for price to go down. Have a msc yacht club later this year then first royal suite on infinity.

I was in a Sky Suite last week - 9200.  The trick for us in the shower was to keep water from hitting the edge of the bathtub, because once it did it had nowhere to go but out; we kept the shower head low and facing down, and had no issues at all.  Loved the Sky Suite for what it is, loved the Retreat Sun Deck - in our minds it doesn't compare to the YC sun deck at all.  The chairs were very comfortable, there were no chair hogs (plenty of seats), I loved the pool and the shower for a quick cool off, the service was great - icy towels, ice cream, etc.  My only complaint was the single user bathroom (although separate for men and women) - there are far too many of these around the ship including the Retreat Sun Deck.

On Edge in March. Quick tip for the bathroom door. Just leave the lock extended. No door slamming and no need to put garbage bin in front. No fighting with the magnet.

good idea, however the door bounces in rougher waters......

I just got off the Edge this morning, in an S3. No bathroom door or flooded floor issues at all. Also had tea brought in every afternoon and ate dinner in my room one night.. The new tables are low but doable. My husband spent the entire week on the couch watching sports, I asked him if it was uncomfortable, he said No.

We just got off Edge Sunday morning from a Sky Suite10169  mid ship.  The bed faced the ocean.. There was no comfortable place to relax in the suites.  At the suggestion of someone on the boards we did purchase the inflatable "foot stool."  It helped somewhat.    So we spent a lot of time relaxing in the Retreat.  We have sailed in Sky suites for the past 10 years and always enjoyed Luminae.  Not so much this cruise.  We decided to try the main dinning rooms which we thought were fantastic so far as ship cuisine goes.  I had Beef Wellington one of the nights which I thought was as good as many on land based restaurants.

We also went to Eden which was fun, however once was enough. We has reservations for 8 pm in La Petit Chef.  However they changed our reservation to 9:30.  We thought that was too late and to spend time in The Martini Bar one of our favorite places. We feel the staff can make or break the experience on board.  The Edge staff was the very best ever.  We also found the passengers were very friendly.  Twice when we were standing at the bar for lack of a place sit passengers came to us and asked us to share their table.

Loved the décor.  Our home is decorated in much the same colors, black and white and taupe and gray. with accents of aqua and burgundy.

We loved the ship and have booked the Edge for 2019  and the Apex for 2021,

Really surprised to hear about luminae which we just loved on last couple of cruises, what was off on it, food or service ?

We agree with NYDee.  Due to the fact the Edge has over 170 Suites, Luminae is a much larger dining room.  The food was very good, the servers, in our opinion tried too hard, and were not as friendly as usual.  We ate with friends in Blu a couple of nights and thoroughly enjoyed that experience. It was more like Luminae on the M and S Class ships.  Luminae on Edge just did not do it for us.The atmosphere was totally off....   Just our opinion
