Rare Windsurfboy Posted May 11, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2019 Do they serve decent coffee in grills lounge and grills deck. Can you get a latte or do you need to go to costa
Host Hattie Posted May 11, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2019 Which ship are you on? There are no Costa outlets on Cunard ships, I think P&O have them.
Rare Windsurfboy Posted May 11, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted May 11, 2019 Sorry P&O is next year that's why had Costa in mind . I'm on Q.V. in July, QE in Nov, and QM in April. Giving them all a try. We love our 11am coffee inside or out depending on weather
Host Hattie Posted May 11, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2019 Cunard uses Illy, I'm not a coffee connoisseur so I can't tell you how good it is.
Rare Windsurfboy Posted May 11, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted May 11, 2019 Thanks Hattie. I'm not a coffee connoisseur either just don't like a huge urn of brown water. Can I get a latte in grills lounge or do I have to go to a specialist outlet .

I'm no connoisseur either but I think it perfectly drinkable.
Mickb Posted May 11, 2019 #8 Share Posted May 11, 2019 The Lattes in the Grills lounge are as good ( or bad) as Costa. We did not have to pay ( unlike P&O)
orvil Posted May 11, 2019 #9 Share Posted May 11, 2019 Go to the Grill's Lounge. There is usually someone at the bar. They will make you whatever you want. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I have seen others doing this. No charge.
Rare Victoria2 Posted May 12, 2019 #10 Share Posted May 12, 2019 Victoria's bar staff hours were 10.30 to around 2pm and 5 pm to 11pm. Deck wait staff were able to facilitate a coffee on occasions for me when I wanted one. A pared down afternoon tea is served on both decks in clement weather, tea is served in a mug so you get a decent cuppa.
cruiseluvva Posted May 12, 2019 #11 Share Posted May 12, 2019 The coffee served in the Grill’s lounge has always been pretty reasonable, and includes all latte, espresso etc. I have even asked for, and received, iced coffee on the Grill’s deck on QV/QE. All far better than the brown water served elsewhere.

And on hot days, they bring ice cream round the terraces mid-afternoon, which is very nice.

If we're mentioning Grill deck goodies, you missed out the melon kebabs around 11am and the dainty sandwiches around noon, for the peckish amongst us. I think I must have lived a misspent life: in all the days I've spent on Cunard, I have never been there at midday for sandwiches. How has this happened? Still, I suppose it leaves less room for lunch. There is also iced iced water and fresh? orange juice available in the lobby as required.
Glenndale Posted May 12, 2019 #15 Share Posted May 12, 2019 It took us a couple of cruises in the Grills before we found out about the coffee. Have never seen the sandwiches but have had ice cream delivered to my sun bed.
orvil Posted May 12, 2019 #16 Share Posted May 12, 2019 I've never taken a warm cruise. It's always been in cold weather. So, the delights of the terraces elude me. I guess I'll have to take one for the team.

Mickb Posted May 12, 2019 #18 Share Posted May 12, 2019 The Grills terraces are one of the reasons it’s worth going Grill class on the QV/QE less so on the QM2. The service is outstanding and they tempt you all day with little goodies. For us, the little sandwiches at lunchtime took the place of lunch otherwise one just finds oneself eating too much food, although lunch in the Courtyard is a very pleasant experience.
tv24 Posted May 14, 2019 #19 Share Posted May 14, 2019 One of my favorite things on Cunard is drinking a latte in the Grills Lounge. Specialty coffee drinks are free and well-made. On the QM2, the Grills Lounge is almost empty before lunch so we just spread out, drink coffee, relax, and work on our hobbies. My idea of a good time.

Are the lattes etc in the lounge better than the ones you get in the QG if you ask for one after your meal? These were average at best and no better than the ones I was served after dinner in BC on a previous trip.

My recollection is that the lattes are the same in the lounge and in the QG restaurant, and they are indeed of average quality, but not bad. AspirationalFlyer Posted May 20, 2019 #24 Share Posted May 20, 2019 Slightly off topic, but the coffee in Britannia Class is pretty rough. I’ve previously told Cunard in post cruise surveys it is something they need to improve. I can’t see how expensive it would be to pay for a few decent bean to cup machines in the Lido (which are fairy common in mid range hotels). Perhaps they do it as another differentiator between Britannia and Grills class.

I grind beans daily. I have a cold press, a French press, a 1970s percolator, a stovetop vacuum rig, all of which I use depending on what I feel like that particular day. I was ready to buy a coffee card for my crossing due to the many statements about the coffee in the King’s Court and elsewhere on the QM2. I happily discovered that, TO ME, the coffee was fine. Mom-and-Pop coffee shop fine. Nothing I would pay a premium for, but palatable. I saved a bundle of money and still got my caffeine fix all day, every day. 1
