The OP knows by now that they are heading to Mexico as fast as they can. Nothing in the Eastern Caribbean for them. Scheduled to arrive 7:00 am Saturday.

Yep....they're sailing away from the storm, too.  OP missed his cruise.

OP wasn't patient enough to see it through, he cancelled and is heading to Vegas.

I guess some people don't understand the logistics of moving ships/locations around and waiting until the cruise lines have ALL the necessary info to make a decision.

It's a shoulda, coulda, woulda situation that someone is always going to be wrong.

Sun. Warmth. A lovely day in Cozumel.

Little off topic, but I believe the last time we were in Coz our cruise from Miami started out crazy. Hurricane approaching took 2 tugs to pull us away from dock. Missed Key West and headed straight to Coz.

Yeah, maybe the OP wasn’t patient enough.  Maybe the whole time the OP really wanted to go to Vegas instead.  Hopefully the people on board are happy, safe and having a nice time now.  Those of us in FL will watch the storm track as will the cruiselines and wonder where Dorian will go.

Latest Euro model makes it look like it will pull a Matthew, which sucks for the whole coast of FL, GA and SC.  🙁

Answers, statement, or whatever. You're being pedantic. The obvious point is that RCL chooses to post a public message about the current situation and NCL chooses not to. It's perfectly reasonable to expect NCL to post up a message even if that message states that all sailings are embarking as scheduled and further determinations will be made by captains on a case by case basis. I wish someone could tell me why this is a bad idea.

It would be a bad idea because it is redundant.

All sailings...24x7, 365 days a year...embark as scheduled. Any and all itinerary deviations are made by captains on a case by case basis on every single sailing. All the time, hurricane approaching or not.

No need to post a bunch of words to restate the way they operate every single day.

If NCL hasn't posted a message about the current situation, just consider that there just might not be a message to post. Nothing has been decided. It is perfectly reasonable to assume that no news is good news...you can't just call them up to demand news.

Let’s wish the OP all the best in their travel plans. If this was the dead of winter and a snow storm was predicted, we’d all be making alternate plans to either get to our destination alternatively, or a new destination for our getaway.

This is going to be a very difficult situation for many cruise lines and their guests.

Except the ones who get diverted and get extra days on board. 😁

Just an aside to all this:  I work in the flood insurance industry (which is why I can't cruise during hurricane season; vacations tend to get cancelled during a big storm event.)  We have been tracking Dorian for several days, as we do with all named storms with the potential for damage.  Our "storm alert" went in place two hours after NCL made their announcement on Twitter/Facebook/web page -- the path was still pretty uncertain prior to that point.  So I'm not finding NCL's response to be particularly tardy.  It is what it is; storms don't always cooperate with perfectly modeled behavior.

Be safe, everyone, and best of luck staying out of the path!

Just posted on the Hurricane thread:

We have a group were a fellow member is doing a back to back on the Breakaway. He just posted to us that the ships Captain made their 1st public announcement about Dorian just a bit ago. He said that the the Coast Guard has put code X-ray in effect for the Port of Miami and the ship is to stay in place at their last scheduled port which will be Cozumel in the morning. He has told them he would be back to give the passengers more details in an hour.

Got this earlier....sounds like they’re waiting to see where the storm turns.  It’s been very unpredictable so far....

At Norwegian Cruise Line, the safety and security of our guests and crew is always our top priority. We are closely monitoring the track of Hurricane Dorian. All guests will be updated by 8 pm tomorrow, August 30th, on the status of the September 1st sailing of Norwegian Breakaway.

Hurricane Dorian Update 8/29 9:25PM ET:

The safety and security of our guests and crew is always our top priority. Due to Hurricane Dorian in the Caribbean, we have modified the following itineraries for Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun.

Norwegian Breakaway – August 25, 2019 Sailing
As scheduled, Norwegian Breakaway will call to Cozumel, Mexico on Friday, August 30, 2019. At this time, we are uncertain if the ship will be able to return to Miami, Florida on Sunday, September 1, as planned. As such, the ship will extend its time and overnight in Cozumel until September 1, departing at 5 p.m. During this time, guests will have the option to conclude their cruise and arrange their return home or remain on board. Guests who choose to end their cruise in Cozumel will receive a 25% future cruise credit.

We welcome and encourage guests to remain on board and will provide an update on the anticipated return date to Miami by 8 p.m. or sooner on Friday, August 30.

Norwegian Breakaway – September 1, 2019 Sailing
We are closely monitoring the storm and will provide an update by 8 p.m. or sooner Friday, August 30, 2019.

Norwegian Sky – August 26, 2019 Sailing
Norwegian Sky will no longer call to Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas and instead will return to Miami, Florida a day early on Friday, August 30, 2019. Guests will have the opportunity to remain on board until 7 a.m. on August 31. Due to the shortened cruise, all guests will receive a 20% refund from the original cruise fare paid.

Norwegian Sky – August 31, 2019 Sailing
We are closely monitoring the storm and will provide an update by 3 p.m. or sooner on Friday, August 30, 2019.

Norwegian Sun - August 29, 2019 Sailing
Norwegian Sun departed from Port Canaveral, Florida Thursday, August 29, 2019 as scheduled. The calls to Nassau, Great Stirrup Cay and Freeport, Bahamas have been cancelled. Instead, the ship will spend a day at sea on Friday, August 30 and will call to Cozumel, Mexico on August 31. She will remain at sea on September 1 and is scheduled to return to Port Canaveral on September 2.

Guests who booked shore excursions for any of the original port of calls through our shore excursion team, will receive a refund credited to their onboard account.

We are closely monitoring the storm and will communicate any additional itinerary modifications as needed.

Wow, latest forecast shows the storm it is not even going to hit land until very late Monday night at the earliest. I hope they reevaluate things tomorrow!

The cruise line is at the mercy of the port. Per prior posts, the Captain of the Port has already elevated the hurricane condition to XRAY enabling them to close all port as early as 3 pm tomorrow. E.g., bringing the Sky home a day early ensures that they can offload those passengers before condition YANKEE.

The extra days onboard seem nice ( been there before) but the logistics of those getting flights home can be a PIA! Airlines fly mostly full anymore and for thousands of people trying to rebook becomes a challenge.

It took us another day after docking to get a flight. Fortunately airlines are more lenient to no change fees now. They weren't then.

BTW we did enjoy the 2 extra days, but everything pertaining to staying an extra night and flights were a nightmare.

Just wondered what kind of financial penalty would have to be paid in cancelling?
